So he's absolutely determined to brute-force something to the effect of "so much positivity he's gonna die"; while it actually works in some ways and it's not an entirely false emotion given that he's gotten a job he actually likes, the reason behind why he's putting a lot of effort into it to begin with is coming from a place of such hideous paranoia that it's probably not helping as much as he's thinking it will.
