First off, Daimonia's little effect has him experiencing surges of grief, which just makes everything worse because he doesn't know why, or if he does know why, it's much stronger than it should be. This is making him extremely unnerved, and the raised tempers break his calm. Trip's little scheme earned a measly point of distrust for Piphron and learning the monster was a mother protecting her eggs earns a particularly strong pulse of grief and because it's a direct result of his failure to defeat Looma, there's some definite self-loathing going on, which the enhanced grief only makes worse. At least the battle with Looma itself earned him some bravery drops!
