Re: Revision

Personality:

Describing Akashi can be a little bit complicated because he has 2 different personalities. I will split this part into 4: Akashi's Background, Akashi in General, Akashi in Emperor Eye State, and Akashi in Original State.

Akashi's Background:

Akashi grows in an elite family where his father expects him to excel at everything that he does. From a young age he has been pressured with all of stuff ranging from studies and extracurricular activities. These kinds of treatment makes Akashi develops another self, his original self that hopes for freedom and normal life and his other self that is "created" by his father to become someone who win-it-all. After entering Teiko Basketball club he finds true joy in playing with his teammates and drives his "other-self" further away. But as his teammates awakened their own powers and the change of coach that expects Teiko to win every tournaments, Akashi begins to feel the pressure again. The pressure to win-it-all and the pressure that his teammates will leave him behind.

His anxiety grows each day until one point he is almost beaten by his own teammates. The burden he has on his shoulder that labels him as someone who never loses to anybody begins to awakens his "other-self" that is originally created to be someone that wins everything. His other self takes control of his original self at that time and since then he has been controlling Akashi as everyone expects him to be. His real self is hidden inside, locked, and his original self decides that he will not take control until his other self experiences losing. After all, his other self is made to fulfill the sole purpose of winning.

The breaking point between Akashi's original self and Akashi's other self is when he faces his biggest fear of losing. When Akashi is exposed to a situation where his reputation as a perfect being is challenged, he begins to show his fragile side. He will get confused, make many mistakes, and everybody can clearly see that he is not his "own self" that time. That is exemplified when Seirin is about to catch up to Rakuzan and almost beats Akashi's team. Akashi makes a lot of misplays and errors which is unusual for someone like him. Even his teammates shout and yell at him and even asking who he is at that time. After that a catalyst is needed in order for him to change to his other side. Usually it is a comment by one of his friends that doubts who he is and his performance. Just like when he is about to lose match against Murasakibara, the catalyst is his teammates saying that he is going to lose and when Mayuzumi questions about who is he at the court during Rakuzan vs Seirin match.

Akashi in General:

Akashi is shown to be a very intelligent person. He might be the smartest person in the series. This is shown in the case that Akashi never loses to anybody in playing shogi which requires high tactical skills and planning. This trait is not only evident when he is playing shogi, but also when he is playing basketball. Just as he faces Shutoku High in Winter Cup Semifinal Akashi is shown to have intentionally “slowed down” for the first 2 quarters just to observe the strengths and weaknesses of his opponent. Right after that he mercilessly blows his enemy as soon as he recognizes their loop hole. Even Midorima and Takao state that they are not aware that Akashi is setting a trap for them.

Aside from his intelligence, Akashi is also a very strong and charismatic leader. This is exemplified as he can control the Generation of Miracles’ members even if they are full of themselves and really prideful people. In fact, Generation of Miracles only listens to Akashi’s order seriously but they usually ignore other people. The series shows this when Midorima easily lends his scissors to Akashi but refuse to give it to Murasakibara even if he asks for the scissors first. Not only that, even when Akashi is playing on Rakuzan High he directly becomes the team’s captain. When Hyuga sees this he can already see that Akashi has a strong leadership aura as it is considered a disgrace for the seniors when a junior leads the team. Not to mention that it is the 3 Uncrowned Kings out of all people.

Despite all of his talents, Akashi is different than Aomine. While Aomine becomes too skilled until he intentionally skips practices, Akashi never stops training even if people regard him as the “perfect” point guard. In fact, Akashi is one of the most hardworking person in the series. That being said it is because Akashi will do anything to achieve victory and he keeps on training to keep himself fit and winning.

Akashi in Emperor Eye State:

In this state, Akashi can be described as a merciless dictator. He gladly does anything in order to achieve his goals. He easily disposes Haizaki from the team stating that he is useless and can only cause trouble for the team. He also shows high hostility to someone who disobeys him. This is shown when Akashi attacks Kagami with scissors brutally when he refuses to leave the GoM alone for a meeting. Akashi also states that he will gladly “kill” those who oppose his orders.

Akashi is also shown to be very full of himself at this state. He usually uses statement like “My orders are absolute” or “I, who always win, am always right.” These statements may sound very arrogant to those who hear it, but rather than arrogance, it’s more of his pride. It is true that up until now Akashi never experiences any failures in his life yet and no one has proven him wrong once. Therefore, Akashi always believes that he knows everything and what he does is always correct.

Akashi in Original State:

This is the complete opposite of Akashi in Emperor Eye State. In this state, Akashi is shown to be a gentle and caring person. He still retains his winning mentality but overall he shows less malice compared to his Emperor State. He is shown to have a high respect to his teammates and constantly encouraging them to be better. Moreover, he can also be very talkative and nags to his teammates, even in little stuffs like eating. Aomine even regards Akashi as Generation of Miracles’ Mother because of his behavior.

Compared to his Emperor State, Akashi in his Original State is more modest and down to earth person. While Akashi in his Emperor State will boast about his greatness and expect people to admire him, Akashi in his Original State is less likely to boast upon his victory and when people praise him he will not overextend the praises.

Overall, Akashi has dual personality. He can be either a despicable absolute leader or a down to earth considerate leader. You can feel the difference once you encounter both of his side. It depends on the situation. If he is cornered or face despair, he will change to his other self. His motto is "Quick and Decisive" making him one of the most efficient player on court or even organizing a plan.

[note: Akashi will be in his Emperor Eye State when coming into the game. Through CR and emotional moments however he can switch to his original state.]

Sample: Taken from January Intro Log Prompt E

A light step. You can see a teenager with an unusual red hair is walking towards the large tree. A tree that people call “The Tree of Memories”. Of course, this young guy that most people know as Akashi Seijuro does not possess the knowledge behind the mysterious tree. As he walks forward, he can feel a strange sensation around his body. A chill on his spine, it seems. Suddenly, the tree petals change it colors to a dark, muddy pink color. Before he realizes it, a scene shows up before him. A scene that he will never wish to remember or to see.

It is that time, the time when he is facing his own teammate, Murasakibara. The bewildered Akashi bites his tongue a little bit.

“What the hell is going on? This scene…”

He mutters to himself. Of course, seeing this scene is a nightmare for him. He watches himself being beaten by Murasakibara on one-on-one. A direct hit to his mental state. He buckles up and closes his eyes in order not to see his moment of weakness. In the nick of time, another scene shows up. A revelation it seems. The final match between Seirin and Rakuzan. Once again, he sees himself struggling with shots and making stupid plays until his teammates yell at him.

“Don’t screw with me. I am not capable of making such errors. Stop this. Stop this at once!”

The scenes are gone. Akashi is standing there. His emotions are screwed. He wants to get those memories out of his head. Then before he realizes it, the plants around him starts to wither and the raindrops start to pour. What’s with this change of the environment? Matches perfectly with his fragile heart right now. He stares to one of the plants before him. It does reflect on his feelings somehow.

“So pitiful. So disgusting. Dying just like that. I will show the world that I am not the same as you. I never lose after all.”

With that, Akashi takes his leave. His heart is still clouded and it seems the rain will stay for a little while longer.
