We have similar types of characters here, and what we discussed was that they would still be able to heal/self-repair from most wounds, but they can still die. It would just take a lot more than the average human. So for instance, while someone would instantly die from a stab to the chest, Czes might need two or three to be killed instead.
Basically, the character will have a much higher threshold, but can still die.
