Religion is one of those hazy topics due to Empatheias' own history—or lack of, rather. Texts have been found about ancient religions and beliefs, but by the time Empatheias was formed this had all fallen out of the original world's culture. Given that Verens in the past didn't have much in terms of religious institutions to begin with and the people knowing that they themselves can affect the island, the chances of any kind of standard religion had little chance.
However that doesn't mean they don't have traditions that have some religious parallels. This is mostly when dealing with the dead. They believe in the soul of a person and that upon death they are essentially taken into the world. More on this will be expanded in the future. So there are graveyards and mausoleums and places where one can pay their respects, but not churches per se. They might resemble ours a little, but rather than a deity statue there are statues of general people and such.
Otherwise, any religion or cult that does spring up is pretty much that group's own fancy. The concept and idea of gods exist, but for the main population it's shunted as just things of legend—like how we consider the mythological gods (Greek, Roman, Norse, etc.).
There are groups that perform the same type of charitable works that churches past and present do, such as offering shelter for the homeless and food. But those are more like modern day shelters since it's not church based.
