Character: Shelley Winters Age: 25 Canon: Scary Go Round Canon Point: End of Scary Go Round
Background:
Personality:
Shelley Winters is energetic, whimsical and strives to save the world from its evil…when she notices it, that is.
She has an inquisitive mind, which works in her favor most of the time, finding the causes for the supernatural problems that fill Tackleford and how she can intervene to solve or prevent them. She is not afraid of talking her mind or taking risks, even if at times it leads to grievous injuries or traumatic experiences. She often relies on her friends to support her, and when she isn’t able to get help from not even a single one she can find herself discouraged and a tad apathetic towards the problems she encounters, despite being capable of doing many things by herself.
Unfortunately, she also has a few flaws that cause problems to the town and her family, too. She seems to lack forethought, taking actions that at some point would come later to cause bigger trouble or be make plans not go like expected. The most notable occasion – showing her two critical flaws - would be the one time when she stole a sample of serum to deal with the town’s corrupt mayor because she was furious about him, got discouraged when she saw her plans weren’t leading anywhere and no one was taking her seriously, and left the serum in a bottle of medicine. It wasn’t long before her sister Erin took that bottle of medicine with her, leading to being affected by the serum and creating the events of five different chapters or so, ending in Erin being banished to Hell. Yeah, Scary Go Round is weird like that.
It is also worth pointing that, while Shelley is generally a good person and strives for the best, she is capable of taking dubious actions for the benefit of herself or others, if so she judged. Spite and anger can also lead her to do stuff she’d later regret. Shelley is by no means evil, she is agreeable and likes to support her friends the best she can, but just like anyone else she has got temptations and can be pushed to do bad stuff if she feels it is what is needed. It is unlikely anyone will get on her bad side, though, mainly because her bad side isn't very developed.
The best way to illustrate how she could be led to even turn against her friends – for one reason or another – is when she and friends Amy and Fallon were stranded in Portugal. It was not a pleasant occasion, as they needed to urgently return to Tackleford. To achieve that, and at Amy’s behest, Shelley went against her feelings of loyalty and appreciation towards Fallon’s help and ditched her, leaving Fallon alone in Portugal to be captured by the government. This also once again showed lack of forethought, as when Fallon returned to Tackleford around twelve chapters later she had a certain amount of bitterness towards Shelley and Amy, having turned sour and breaking her ‘best friend’ status with Shelley through her actions.
During most of the screentime Shelley got she showed a daft behavior, not caring much about opinions and letting her childish side emerge from time to time, and that shows on her interactions with people. It isn't unusual of her to go on a tangent from time to time, but usually it isn't really a bother. At least her friendly personality helps to make it more bearable.
Abilities: Shelley Winters has no special magical or physical abilities. She doesn’t show notable proficiency with weapons, and her skills are mostly inherent to her inquisitive mind. She has all the skills needed to live independently.
Alignment: Thras. It is no secret Shelley has adventures from time to time, and often those adventures need a good deal of courage. She does have courage! That is why she is able to partake in them, but it is also possible for her to feel discouraged and apathetic towards problems, especially if everything looks hopeless. Difficulty isn't something that can deter her, though.
Other: Nothing.

*** Prompt B:
[The Task Board sure has a lot of jobs, and that is good for Shelley. Having nothing at all to do isn't something she likes, so she appreciates the possibility of keeping herself busy with some sort of activity, even if those are short and don't seem very complicated, at least at first glance.
Her curiosity is piqued, though]
Oooh, flowers as a reward? Those must be a special type of flower. What could it be?
[Shelley's eyes are even sparkling when she reads the details. Looks like she needs to find some sort of pet! Feeling the excitement of what that floral reward could be, Shelley immediately starts looking for it]
Heeeere, Manty Manty Manty! Don't be scared, I'm good! I-I have some great food for you if you come here now!
[Yeah, she is repeating that with some variations while she walks around. The excitement of having a mysterious floral reward starts to vanish, but like hell she is going to quit now after having started]
Where is Manty? What am I even looking for? Is it a dog, a cat, a raven, what is it?
[She now realized she should have paid a bit more of attention, maybe the task say what kind of animal it was.
Having nothing else better to do, Shelley climbs a lamppost. It doesn't take long before she finds something unusual: isn't that a manticore? Manticore, Manty...the connection comes quickly]
...oh.
[Sudden regrets, but...yeah, may as well give it a try]
This won't be fun at all. Here I go.
[A plan should be made, she supposes, so she goes away for now to prepare herself to wrestle a manticore. Yeah, that is her immediate thought]
--- Prompt A:
[Stupid manticore, stupid biting, stupid bleeding wound THAT SHOULD STOP BLEEDING ALREADY. Shelley is annoyed, but she doesn't want to quit yet. So what if Manty is not a kind soul who likes strangers? There must be something she can do. Wasn't there something about emotions affecting the environment? Shelley stares at Manty from the distance, thinking]
Emotions...how am I feeling right now?
[Clueless, but that is not an emotion. Maybe she can channel her determination? Shelley furrows her brow, staring at the air over the manticore, as if she expected a cage to appear or a rope to materialize and tie it. Nothing like that happens.
However what does happen is that the stone on the floor starts cracking, as if something heavy had started to bludgeon it to chip it away. It doesn't do anything to contribute to the 'catch that thing' goal, nor the manticore notices it, at least until the stone pieces burst into the air with a loud noise. Shelley stumbles back, surprised, and falls to the floor. The manticore doesn't take the explosion much better, running away again in fright. Shelley can only watch while it happens, feeling the dread creeping up her back]
...okay, that was no good. W-Wait! Manty! Come back here! Don't get even more lost than you are right now!
