Before applying, please be sure to read the following:
⌈ PLAYER SECTION ⌉
Player:
Contact: Journal/Plurk/AIM — anything to help identify since someone might share your name handle.
Age: You must be at least 13 years old to apply.
Current Characters: If a new player, just put "N/A"
⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉
Character:
Age:
Canon:
Canon Point:
Background: We do not need a play by play of their life. You can of course provide one, but it's not necessary. A summary of their role in the canon and important events involving their character will suffice. Wiki links are allowed.
Personality: Tell us everything you can about how the character works. What are their quirks, reasons for thinking, habits, and flaws—basically we want to know not only how they act, but also why they act that way. You are free to use canon as examples, but be sure to explain why you are referencing the event.
Abilities: If there are any particular abilities the character has supernatural or otherwise, list them here. Referencing to a wiki list is acceptable. However, if there are any particular abilities that need to be weakened or removed, note them here.
Alignment: Please refer to the Alignment entry to choose which alignment your character would most likely fall under. Include a brief (a couple of sentences max) just to help explain why you think your choice is the best fit.
Other: Anything else you'd like to mention.
⌈ SAMPLE SECTION ⌉
Sample: We have two requirements for the sample:
The sample can be "written" in three different ways and you can choose which one will work best for you:
Format wise, you can use either [ brackets ] OR narrative prose. We do require that the writing at least be coherent, have proper sentence structure, and is mostly grammatically correct (we realize that writing styles can be loose/creative in [ bracket ] form so we're giving a bit more leeway). One last suggestion we have is try to have the character interacting with the environment and try thinking of the sample less of a narrative piece but more like a post or thread prompt you might make in the game. That will help the sample show not only how you will write the character, but also how you will play them in practice.
Questions: If you have any questions, ask them here.
Clean copy and paste form here:
Before applying, please be sure to read the following:
- Read the Rules and the Game Information.
- Double check the Reserves and Taken Characters lists to make sure the character you're applying for is not on the list. Also check the comments in case the entry has yet to be updated, as well as any pending applications.
- Feel free to use the most recent test drive both for practice as well as to use for samples. IMPORTANT! If you submit threads as samples, you must submit the application with that character journal. This is the only way we can ensure that the samples are from you and not someone else.
- Linked samples must have been made within the past year.
- You may apply for up to two characters per cycle.
- Application challenges are allowed. Reserves will have priority, but it's not definitive. We will choose the better application regardless.
- Do not plagiarize. If we find that the information provided was directly taken by either another player or source material such a wiki, the application will be rejected immediately. If we find this after processing the application, we will revoke the application and have you removed from the game with potential ban.
- Reusing your own applications from other games is allowed. We only ask any original written samples to conform to our game. That is, we don't want to read samples that are set specifically for another game's premise. Note: this does not apply to threads linked from other games used as samples.
- If you are rejected, you cannot reapply for the same character until the next cycle. However, you can apply for a different character in the same cycle.
- Those accepted must fill out all of the required entries within a week to be considered part of the game. Otherwise, we will consider it a revocation of the application.
- Fill out the form and comment to this entry! You can either paste the application directly to the entry or link it from your own journal/musebox.

Sample: We have two requirements for the sample:
- Character Portrayal. We should see examples of the character's dialogue as well as some introspection or additional narrative to further show how you intend to write the character. This is the most important part of the sample and where most of the weight will be.
- Use of Emotions. This is our "game setting" requirement. Essentially we want to ensure that you have a basic grasp of the game's premise, especially with the use of emotions. It can be a small scene, even incidental to the main sample. For apathetic characters or those who do not exhibit emotions easily, an alternative is to describe what the character is doing instead and essentially show how they behave in such a manner. For example, if a character is set in a scenario that would normally provoke an emotional response, what do they do instead? What is their mindset and their reaction instead? This portion doesn't have to be lengthy and can even be a couple of sentences to a paragraph. Also keep in mind that subtle and passive effects count, so you do not have to try and create something exuberant or extreme. A calm wind will work just as well as a raging storm, so feel free to be as simple or creative as you want.
The sample can be "written" in three different ways and you can choose which one will work best for you:
- Test Drive. You can utilize our test drive to cover both requirements of the sample. So long as there is enough character portrayal and a scene with an emotional reaction, be it within the prompt or done during the thread, then it will satisfy both requirements.
- Link out + Written. You can link to threads/entries from other games, memes, or museboxes to show character portrayal, and then write an additional short scene for the emotion portion of the sample.
- Original Sample. You can write a complete sample that shows both character portrayal and a scene involving emotion use. This can be one sample or two separate samples. If you opt to write an original sample, you are welcome to use any prompts from any of our Test Drives, Intro Logs, Task Board, and even past events. You are also free to change things up and are not restricted to any of these prompts. They are just here to help offer ideas.

Marinette Dupain-Cheng | Miraculous Ladybug | Reserved
Player: Michi
Contact: cloudatlas
Age: 27
Current Characters: N/A
Character: Marinette Dupain-Cheng (Ladybug)
Age: 15
Canon: Miraculous Ladybug
Canon Point: Post season 1
Background: here
Personality: Marinette is a normal high school girl first-- and a butt-kicking superhero second. Despite the image people have of Ladybug, the girl behind the mask is a young girl who's real worries are making it to school on time, not falling on her face and whether or not she can manage to put together half a sentence when talking to the boy that she likes. She's cute and awkward and full of energy. Trouble has a way of finding her more often than not, but she's stronger than she looks- both inside and out.
There's one thing that can reduce her to a useless puddle no matter what, though. Or at least someone. Adrien Agreste is the object of her undying girlish affections; her wall space reserved for different pictures of him. Although they got off to a bad start- when things turned around they turned one hundred and eighty degrees. In his presence she has a hard time forming words, much less sentences. And when she talks about him it's clear she has big dreams. Dreams to the tune of three kids, a dog and a hamster. Never mind that right now she's incapable of even asking him to a movie-- all things in due time.
Her other great passion is design. Her room is full of trade tools from mannequins to sewing needles. She does all of her works by hand and has had a number of distinct honors because of her great talent; including designing the album cover of her favorite rock star and designing a hat for one of Adrien's photoshoots. She's creative and hard working - one failure is never the end for her. There are times she won't get it right on the first try, but she has the determination required to stick it out and try again.
Marinette shows great care for people as a whole. She genuinely cares for all her classmates and tries her best to do right by them, whether it's cheering up one who just got rejected by a girl or being the one to take charge when they're in danger and the group needs some direction. The fact that she listens to them and cares about them is what got her elected as their class representative over Chloe's bribery.
While she ultimately strives to do the good and right thing; Marinette has a few character flaws that get in the way every so often. More than once, the girl's jealousy reared it's ugly head, causing her to take actions she later regretted. And try as she might, she has a low tolerance for bossy types not unlike her classmate Chloe-- who gets on her nerves better than anyone. It's also not unlike her to spread herself too thin; having a hard time turning anyone's requests down, ultimately leading to some not so great turnouts. Juggling her normal school life and her superhero duties has lead to some poor patches of attendance in her record and made her look like she was neglecting her friends or responsibilities.
Although she makes mistakes big and small, she's learned to take responsibility for them, even though she still has the bad habit of sometimes going too far out of her way to try and 'fix' certain messes - like taking Adrien's phone home with her when she can't figure out how to erase the embarrassing message she accidentally left him. There's also no denying that she has a selfish streak that can blur the lines of right and wrong (particularly if it has to do with Adrien). But compared to her selflessness, it shows far less.
But her confidence has come a long way, even if it still falters now and then. While she still questions her abilities from time to time, she's embraced the idea of doing what she's able to in order to help others. For her, fighting isn't about beating her opponent - it's about saving them. That's why even if it's one of her friends who's been corrupted, she doesn't have any problem standing against them.
Abilities: Her powers come from the qwami known as Tiki- a small, bug-like creature and a relic known as a Miraculous. By absorbing Tiki's powers into the Miraculous (a pair of earrings she always wears) she's able to magically transform into Ladybug. Because it's a magical transformation, her mask can't simply be removed- the suit is treated as a part of her until she transforms back.
As Ladybug she employs super-human speed, strength and a magical yo-yo that help her fight her enemies. It makes bouncing back from strong blows, running along the sides of buildings and cutting through items as strong as steel with the rotary motion from her yo-yo all possible. Of course, there's a natural limit to how long she can remain in this form. She's using Tiki's energy to remain transformed. So Tiki needs to be in top form and well-fed to maintain this form. Her earrings display a number of spots which decrease over time, letting her know how close she is to transforming back. Because her identity should be kept a secret, this is pretty important to keep an eye on.
Ladybug's special power is known as her Lucky Charm. It's a one shot trick that grants her one special item that when used correctly- should be able to help her win. The downside is that they're usually odd items and finding out how to use them is all up to her. Using her Lucky Charm also uses up a lot of energy so once she's used it, she only has a few minutes before she has to change back, regardless of whether she uses it right away or a few minutes down the line.
Alignment: Elios. There's no question that Marinette is full of love: for humanity, for her family, for her friends...FOR ADRIEN... For good or for bad, her love for people has shaped her adventures from loving advice that goes wrong to her unrealized connection with her secret superhero companion. On the other hand she also bears some ugly feelings of hatred that we see spike many times out of jealousy or as a reaction to the spiteful, bossy rich girl Chloe- who's a basket-case of human attributes that Marinette can't stand.
Other: None.
Sample: test drive threads
Questions: Nope.

But our story really begins on the first day of a new year of high school. On this unspecified year in her high school life, her first day is met with a series of oddities and disasters. The macaroons she made for her class get dropped, a mysterious old man secretly bestows upon her a magical set of earrings and Chloe- as always, is going out of her way to be the absolute worst and dragging her clueless friend Adrien into it. Marinette mistakes Adrien's attempts to remove the gum Chloe placed as the act of an accomplice. But she does make a new friend in the new girl Alya.
But those little things all led up to the craziest of them all - finding the Miraculous and meeting Tiki. Like any perfectly normal girl would, she was completely freaked out. And even once she started to understand? She had no intention of becoming the superhero Ladybug. More than that, she was sure that something like that was definitely impossible for her. After all... she was klutzy and in no way heroic. She couldn't even stop Chloe from picking on her or the rest of her classmates. No... she fully intended to ignore it.
Until the appearance of Hawk Moth, praying on the negative emotions of one of her classmates put the city in danger. Even then, she hesitated- realizing she wasn't the only one chosen... Cat Noir could handle it. She'd only make things worse. But she wasn't convincing herself anymore. Worried for the city, she transformed for the first time and took off after Hawk Moth's akumatized victim. She learns first-hand that akuma turn innocent bystanders who are feeling intense negative emotions into powerful super villains through Hawk Moth's power- with a Miraculous at the center of his powers, corrupted by Hawk Moth's misuse of those powers.
Together, although complete strangers, Ladybug and Cat Noir work together and take down Hawk Moth's first villain. However- unaware that the akuma needs to be captured and purified by her powers, Marinette lets the dark butterfly go... a mistake that results in the chaos the villain caused remaining. People turned into frozen statues that could come back at any time, if the akuma possessed that person again in a moment of weakness. In light of her mistake, Marinette is more sure than ever that she's not cut out for this and puts away the earrings with the thought of perhaps giving them to someone more fitting... like Alya. But in the end, she can't do it and when Hawk Moth takes control of her classmate again, she's forced back into action. But this time... they finish things off right.
And although she's completely unaware of the fact that the awestruck Cat Noir with a crush on her is actually the same Adrien she thought had helped put bubblegum on her seat in school- he manages to apologize to her and at the same time... her own crush is born. For Adrien.
Since then they've protected Paris from a lot of Hawk Moth's villains. But by now they've become a well-oiled team. Since Tiki explained everything to her, there have been no more mistakes like their first time. Even so... though they've battled many of his villains, the duo is no closer to actually defeating Hawk Moth. Just like the two have no idea who each other are... neither of them know Hawk Moth's location or his identity. All the can do is continue to protect the city from his victims and save those people until the day when they get a chance to fight him properly. But because of all their exploits, they've become heroes. Alya idolizes Ladybug and runs the Ladyblog... even Chloe is a huge Ladybug fan. They have their own statues and yet... they're bound to secrecy. Even between each other.
But the end of the season finally brought to light a mysterious book with all kinds of information regarding the Miraculous... a book which Adrien found hidden away behind a painting of his mother. Impulsively taking the book, it goes to school with him and ends up catching Tiki's eye. Tiki tells Marinette that there's someone looking for that book and that they need to get it; But Marinette's already busy worrying about the new girl hitting on Adrien. When she starts lying to Adrien about being good friends with Ladybug- she flips and transforms just to set the record straight. But her jealousy got the best of her and she really hurt her in the process- an act that would come back to cause trouble for them both later. But even though she messed that up, she did manage to help Tiki get the book, despite feeling terrible about taking it from Adrien.
There isn't much time to worry about that though when Hawk Moth uses the victim of Marinette's jealousy against Paris, akumatizing her into the villain Vulpine. Playing herself as a hero, she pits Cat Noir and Marinette against each other; knowing she can use Ladybug's jealousy against her. But their bond holds, just in time to see that Vulpine is using illusions, even going so far as to make it look like Hawk Moth is out in Paris. It takes the two of them to take her down but it'll take more than an apology from Ladybug to put a damper of the girl's anger. Although she wasn't able to patch things up, at least Paris is safe for now.
Until Season two comes around.
