IMPORTANT!Applications are on a monthly cycle. They run from the 1st thru the 4th of each month. The cycle opens at 12:00AM CST and close at 11:59PM CST. Notices will be sent out all at once at the end of the cycle, and no later than 24 hours after the end of the cycle.

Before applying, please be sure to read the following:

Read the Rules and the Game Information.
Double check the Reserves and Taken Characters lists to make sure the character you're applying for is not on the list. Also check the comments in case the entry has yet to be updated, as well as any pending applications.
Feel free to use the most recent test drive both for practice as well as to use for samples. IMPORTANT! If you submit threads as samples, you must submit the application with that character journal. This is the only way we can ensure that the samples are from you and not someone else.
Linked samples must have been made within the past year.
You may apply for up to two characters per cycle.
Application challenges are allowed. Reserves will have priority, but it's not definitive. We will choose the better application regardless.
Do not plagiarize. If we find that the information provided was directly taken by either another player or source material such a wiki, the application will be rejected immediately. If we find this after processing the application, we will revoke the application and have you removed from the game with potential ban.
Reusing your own applications from other games is allowed. We only ask any original written samples to conform to our game. That is, we don't want to read samples that are set specifically for another game's premise. Note: this does not apply to threads linked from other games used as samples.
If you are rejected, you cannot reapply for the same character until the next cycle. However, you can apply for a different character in the same cycle.
Those accepted must fill out all of the required entries within a week to be considered part of the game. Otherwise, we will consider it a revocation of the application.

Sample: We have two requirements for the sample:

Character Portrayal. We should see examples of the character's dialogue as well as some introspection or additional narrative to further show how you intend to write the character. This is the most important part of the sample and where most of the weight will be.
Use of Emotions. This is our "game setting" requirement. Essentially we want to ensure that you have a basic grasp of the game's premise, especially with the use of emotions. It can be a small scene, even incidental to the main sample. For apathetic characters or those who do not exhibit emotions easily, an alternative is to describe what the character is doing instead and essentially show how they behave in such a manner. For example, if a character is set in a scenario that would normally provoke an emotional response, what do they do instead? What is their mindset and their reaction instead? This portion doesn't have to be lengthy and can even be a couple of sentences to a paragraph. Also keep in mind that subtle and passive effects count, so you do not have to try and create something exuberant or extreme. A calm wind will work just as well as a raging storm, so feel free to be as simple or creative as you want.

The sample can be "written" in three different ways and you can choose which one will work best for you:

Test Drive. You can utilize our test drive to cover both requirements of the sample. So long as there is enough character portrayal and a scene with an emotional reaction, be it within the prompt or done during the thread, then it will satisfy both requirements.
Link out + Written. You can link to threads/entries from other games, memes, or museboxes to show character portrayal, and then write an additional short scene for the emotion portion of the sample.
Original Sample. You can write a complete sample that shows both character portrayal and a scene involving emotion use. This can be one sample or two separate samples. If you opt to write an original sample, you are welcome to use any prompts from any of our Test Drives, Intro Logs, Task Board, and even past events. You are also free to change things up and are not restricted to any of these prompts. They are just here to help offer ideas.

Format wise, you can use either [ brackets ] OR narrative prose. We do require that the writing at least be coherent, have proper sentence structure, and is mostly grammatically correct (we realize that writing styles can be loose/creative in [ bracket ] form so we're giving a bit more leeway). One last suggestion we have is try to have the character interacting with the environment and try thinking of the sample less of a narrative piece but more like a post or thread prompt you might make in the game. That will help the sample show not only how you will write the character, but also how you will play them in practice.

While the application shows promise, there are a few things that either didn't quite meet our standards, were lacking, or incorrect. Fortunately we feel that this can be easily revised. Here are our concerns:

We have two things we'd like to address. In the Personality section, you mention Genis's prejudice against humans. Could you further expand or perhaps clarify a little as to how Genis would behave toward humans? Although it's understood he would be distrustful, it doesn't really give us a clear idea as to how he really behaves.

Secondly, we didn't really see much in terms of the Emotion Sample. Although the effect itself can be small and subtle in actual effect, it helps if there is a bit more focus so that it's more noticeable to the reader (at least for sample purposes).

While the Personality section touches on many of Hamilton's characteristic, there doesn't seem to much in terms of how you, the player, interpret or give reason for those characteristics. It seems that you are relying mostly on the musical. It's perfectly fine to extrapolate with what you think! We also noticed that you neglected to mention Aaron Burr within the application itself. Even though it's covered in the linked Wiki, we would like to see his influence reflected in the Personality section. The same goes for Eliza. Thus we would like for you to add and expand on these two figures as well as give a bit more of your interpretation on Hamilton as to the why's of how he behaves and thinks.

This will be the journal I'm using!

Mettaton still wasn't sure how he felt about this. It was definitely the surface, he thought, but it wasn't the surface he thought he was supposed to be in. Not to mention that he found it rather unfair that he had just been very selfless only to just be taken away anyway! Of all the nerve. If he ever could find out who sent him here then he'd have some very fine words with them. He was a star, he was busy! He had such a tight schedule and if that human did manage to destroy the barrier then Mettaton was sure he would be in an even tighter one. After all, he had humans to meet and charm. It made him wonder how they were doing and if they would be okay against Asgore. They did seem to be a determined little thing, like how most humans were said to be. But then his mind went to Alphys. How was she? She had been worried after he'd woken up, repaired. And he hated to worry because everybody else worried enough around him, but he was alone and if everybody else here didn't know much about this place then where did that leave him? A simple monster who had only ever been in the Underground for all of his existence?

And one thing he especially didn't like was the fact his emotions were on such a display. He had already thought about how he could put them into his acting, but fake acting emotions were different from genuine emotions and he didn't see how this persistent lightning storm around him was supposed to work. There was nothing fabulous about it. Just dangerous and who wanted a dangerous star? That was not what his public image was about!

He stood still in deep thought, worried notions beginning to get worse as the storm grew worse around him. In what universe did emotions do any of this? He needed to cheer up and now. He had a job to do! It was time to introduce this world's new star. This amulet could read minds, right? Or something like that. Something about telepathy he'd been told. That could make this simpler. He'd find a way. He was in his rectangle form at the moment because he wasn't sure how long EX could last and he still didn't know where he'd get his power from. This form was much more photogenic anyway.

“OHH YES! Hello, beauties! This is your new fabulous, famous, and wonderful star Mettaton! And aren't you just lucky? I am here to turn this world into a BEAUTIFUL METTA-TOPIA!”

But with that storm still around him and a flash of lightning, he struggled for an excuse because nobody was interested in an unhappy star. You needed bright! Pleasant! And most of all charming. How would he be this world's star and cheer the people up if he couldn't first cheer himself up? “Please! Your photo opportunities will come momentarily! Hold the cameras!” He certainly hoped these amulets understood camera angles because even if they weren't cameras, a good angle was still needed and especially if he had to masterfully crop out the obvious negative feelings plaguing him.

Edit: Whoops, forgot to answer your questions! Yes, using emotion drops as a kind of indirect recharge can work, and you can even use the type (positive/negative) to affect him as well. For instance more positive could give him more of a boost while more negative could be less. Up to you of course! Just throwing some ideas.

This is the account I'll be using and thank you for the answer! I'll have fun with ideas for that.

Sorry about that, the old app format I'm used to tend to dock points for counting too much on other characters in the work, or going too far into headcanon, I'll be glad to elaborate! Also spoiler warnings for all of the show:

A lot of what Hamilton does and says seems to come from personal tragedy and how he deals with it. Like one of the best ways I've seen it explained is when Lin Manuel Miranda said that "There's a crack in the foundation, really early in his life". He'd seen his father abandon him and his mother, he was sick with fever when his mother died right beside him and he lost nearly everything that his mom owned. Shortly after that the cousin who took him in committed suicide, and he lived through a hurricane which claimed over two hundred people. Go even further down the line and he sees the horrors of the revolutionary war and in particular, Valley Forge. He loses Laurens shortly after the birth of his son, and nearly two decades later, he loses his son as well. His life is a series of constant hardships that he's always recovering from, even before his mouth gets him in trouble.

The thing is that many of these horrible things mostly get a passing mention at best, and I like to think that matches how Hamilton tries (or more accurately, tries not to) deal with those events. Like there's two songs that directly talk about these things, and then the rest is like "oh yeah btw this happened". Hamilton for the most part says what he thinks and feels, yet he never really tries to work through all those old wounds himself. Instead it comes out as endless hard work to keep his mind busy, or a quick temper, or even simply bottling it up and saying that it's "unimportant". He doesn't want to deal with it until he breaks, and eventually? He does break. Phillips' death cripples him in a lot of ways, and even after he becomes more politically active again, it's not at the same breakneck speed.

This isn't the only factor though, there's also the fact that his social and financial background means that he'd be pretty dismissible to the generally well-off intellectuals in college and after the war. He has to fight everyone, he has to work twice as hard, he has to make choices that aren't popular, and he has to think about his legacy. Because even if people hate him for it, at least he left a mark and he won't be forgotten.

On Burr: Oh boy, Burr is complicated.
In many ways Burr is the counterweight to... everything Hamilton does, and Hamilton knows that. It's frustrating for Hamilton, but he also realizes that sometimes you do need to hold back for just a moment or compromise, and he acknowledges that the guy can sum up an argument persuasively and in fewer words than Hamilton does. However that doesn't mean he's happy with the idea, and for the most part he doesn't like how Burr seems unwilling to pick a side.

On a personal level he has mixed feelings in so many ways. On one side this is the man who he's worked with and thought of as a friend for many years. However on the other this is also the same guy that switched political parties and got Eliza's father out of office, just for a senator seat. In fact that was the exact moment something went wrong in their friendship, while Burr said that he didn't understand why they couldn't still be friends, he didn't pick out the note of open betrayal in Hamiltons' voice. After that the list of disagreements kept piling up, from Burr being in the group that went after his financials to try and remove him from power, to- yanno, killing him. They have so much bad blood between them that Hamilton even sides with Jefferson over Burr, which is a shame because the same components of what made them friends still lie under the surface. At the end of the show it's clear that Hamilton has deeply conflicting feelings about Burr, if he was an actual enemy and truly dangerous he would've shot him, but he didn't. Instead he recognizes him as someone that once was a friend, and raises his pistol to the sky.

On Eliza: Oh Eliza, she really, really is too good for this man, and he's acutely aware that he's been given far more chances than he deserves with her. Frankly, he adores Eliza, and not only for her kindness. He loves her mind, the steel of her spine, her grace, and when he calls her the best of wives and women he means it. She can't keep him from doing something he's set his mind to, but he still does listen to her, confides in her, and she's an incredibly positive force in his life. He also feels incredible guilt towards her. Not only did he cheat on her for months, but he advised Phillip about what to do during the duel, he gave Phillip his pistol. If Phillip had gone to Eliza, he might've survived. Even if his feelings of guilt hadn't been firmly set in stone yet, Eliza's half-wailed, nearly screamed "Who did this, Alexander, did you know?" would've crystalized them into something he could never forgive himself for. To him, it's a miracle that she eventually forgave him, much less that they repaired their relationship.
