[ ARCHIVED ] [ application ]

— OLD APPLICATION POST —

CURRENT APPLICATION ENTRY CAN BE FOUND HERE.

IMPORTANT!Applications are on a monthly cycle. They run from the 1st thru the 4th of each month. The cycle opens at 12:00AM CST and close at 11:59PM CST. Notices will be sent out all at once at the end of the cycle, and no later than 24 hours after the end of the cycle.

Before applying, please be sure to read the following:

  • Read the Rules and the Game Information.
  • Double check the Reserves and Taken Characters lists to make sure the character you're applying for is not on the list. Also check the comments in case the entry has yet to be updated, as well as any pending applications.
  • Feel free to use the most recent test drive both for practice as well as to use for samples. IMPORTANT! If you submit threads as samples, you must submit the application with that character journal. This is the only way we can ensure that the samples are from you and not someone else.
  • Linked samples must have been made within the past year.
  • You may apply for up to two characters per cycle.
  • Application challenges are allowed. Reserves will have priority, but it's not definitive. We will choose the better application regardless.
  • Do not plagiarize. If we find that the information provided was directly taken by either another player or source material such a wiki, the application will be rejected immediately. If we find this after processing the application, we will revoke the application and have you removed from the game with potential ban.
  • Reusing your own applications from other games is allowed. We only ask any original written samples to conform to our game. That is, we don't want to read samples that are set specifically for another game's premise. Note: this does not apply to threads linked from other games used as samples.
  • If you are rejected, you cannot reapply for the same character until the next cycle. However, you can apply for a different character in the same cycle.
  • Those accepted must fill out all of the required entries within a week to be considered part of the game. Otherwise, we will consider it a revocation of the application.
  • Fill out the form and comment to this entry! You can either paste the application directly to the entry or link it from your own journal/musebox.

⌈ PLAYER SECTION ⌉

Player:
Contact: Journal/Plurk/AIM — anything to help identify since someone might share your name handle.
Age: You must be at least 13 years old to apply.
Current Characters: If a new player, just put "N/A"

⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character:
Age:
Canon:
Canon Point:

Background: We do not need a play by play of their life. You can of course provide one, but it's not necessary. A summary of their role in the canon and important events involving their character will suffice. Wiki links are allowed.

Personality: Tell us everything you can about how the character works. What are their quirks, reasons for thinking, habits, and flaws—basically we want to know not only how they act, but also why they act that way. You are free to use canon as examples, but be sure to explain why you are referencing the event.

Abilities: If there are any particular abilities the character has supernatural or otherwise, list them here. Referencing to a wiki list is acceptable. However, if there are any particular abilities that need to be weakened or removed, note them here.

Alignment: Please refer to the Alignment entry to choose which alignment your character would most likely fall under. Include a brief (a couple of sentences max) just to help explain why you think your choice is the best fit.

Other: Anything else you'd like to mention.

⌈ SAMPLE SECTION ⌉

Sample: We have two requirements for the sample:

  • Character Portrayal. We should see examples of the character's dialogue as well as some introspection or additional narrative to further show how you intend to write the character. This is the most important part of the sample and where most of the weight will be.
  • Use of Emotions. This is our "game setting" requirement. Essentially we want to ensure that you have a basic grasp of the game's premise, especially with the use of emotions. It can be a small scene, even incidental to the main sample. For apathetic characters or those who do not exhibit emotions easily, an alternative is to describe what the character is doing instead and essentially show how they behave in such a manner. For example, if a character is set in a scenario that would normally provoke an emotional response, what do they do instead? What is their mindset and their reaction instead? This portion doesn't have to be lengthy and can even be a couple of sentences to a paragraph. Also keep in mind that subtle and passive effects count, so you do not have to try and create something exuberant or extreme. A calm wind will work just as well as a raging storm, so feel free to be as simple or creative as you want.

The sample can be "written" in three different ways and you can choose which one will work best for you:

  1. Test Drive. You can utilize our test drive to cover both requirements of the sample. So long as there is enough character portrayal and a scene with an emotional reaction, be it within the prompt or done during the thread, then it will satisfy both requirements.
  2. Link out + Written. You can link to threads/entries from other games, memes, or museboxes to show character portrayal, and then write an additional short scene for the emotion portion of the sample.
  3. Original Sample. You can write a complete sample that shows both character portrayal and a scene involving emotion use. This can be one sample or two separate samples. If you opt to write an original sample, you are welcome to use any prompts from any of our Test Drives, Intro Logs, Task Board, and even past events. You are also free to change things up and are not restricted to any of these prompts. They are just here to help offer ideas.

Format wise, you can use either [ brackets ] OR narrative prose. We do require that the writing at least be coherent, have proper sentence structure, and is mostly grammatically correct (we realize that writing styles can be loose/creative in [ bracket ] form so we're giving a bit more leeway). One last suggestion we have is try to have the character interacting with the environment and try thinking of the sample less of a narrative piece but more like a post or thread prompt you might make in the game. That will help the sample show not only how you will write the character, but also how you will play them in practice.

Questions: If you have any questions, ask them here.

Would it be easier to submit the entire revised personality section, or just the revisions themselves?

Because the first option may work better.

... wow, I really should have paid attention to that even with everything offscreen happening at the same time. Uh, fixed? with some added stuff to parts here and there

- - -

One moment Mikasa was looking at the Colossal Titan and wondering if she along with her five friends really were the only survivors from the titan shifting explosion...

And then the next second, she was suddenly kneeling down on another roof without Armin and others right next to her. What? Mikasa got up on her feet and tried to look calm on the outside while she was actually freaking out even more on the inside. In fact the girl was so scared for a moment, that the roof beneath her legs shook like it was going to fall apart from where she was standing. That wasn't normal at all except -- Mikasa gave it a suspicious look. Something like that from a steady roof would have been weird for sure if this had been her first time seeing an emotional reaction like that... But now it just calmed her down in a weird way and the shaking quieted down a bit.

She took a good look around the whole place now when she wasn't about to fall from another roof today. This place felt and looked familiar -- and the floating crystal in the sky was enough to tell her that she really was back in the Feelings World.

Why? Sorry, Arehtei, she wasn't feeling too good about this at the moment. Why right now? This was one of the worst timings ever! Even if she'd go back to the same moment back home eventually, she sure as hell would like to know some answers to all the questions there right now instead of then. And knowing this place, all that uncertainty was going to show up around her sooner or later... Most of the time she still didn't like when her surroundings did that, some situations with certain people were an exception. But Mikasa Ackerman still liked keeping her feelings to herself and that was kind of impossible here.

Well, having been here before and knowing how things worked helped ... a little. There was nothing the girl could do about things happening back home while she was here. She was going to get off this roof but first she took a moment to stare at whatever was going on around the Tree. It looked like some kind of a -- festival? Party? Fun? She had no idea what to call it, they didn't have anything like it back home. Well, whatever it was, it sounded like people were having fun there and Mikasa really ... wasn't in the mood for that. Or maybe that was the reason why she should go there; it might have helped her to think about anything else than everything that was happening back home.

Mikasa sighed as she got her feet on the ground. She had her priorities and maybe they could help her decide what to do. She wondered if she could just walk to the house near her, it was that same place they called home here... If they still lived there, who knew. Maybe they all went home and now she was the only one around. It wasn't like her mood was any good to begin with but that thought just made it much worse and a cloud appeared above her head. She wasn't even surprised when it started snowing on her. At least she wasn't making ice this time -- or not yet, maybe that was going to happen later if she wasn't going to find him anywhere. Right, first things first, it was time to find her family!

No one was home when she went to check there first but seemed like at least two of them still lived there, so that was great. Knowing that made the cloud disappear but having no idea whether Eren was here or not meant it was still cold as hell around the girl. He might have arrived right now too, right? Armin and Jean were clearly still here, that much was clear from the apartment. She was too scared to look into Eren's room but she was going to at least hope for a while...

Her room looked still the same she noticed as she walked in there slowly. And she figured she could change clothes if the others were at the festival if she was going to join them too -- well, assuming she still had some clothes to change into, she needed to check that. This really wasn't the time to think about all things happening back home, so it was better to try to do something --- fun? It sounded weird, too weird, but she was at least going to try. For them.

Mikasa's hand touched her (new) crystal. She could send them a message now, when that telepathy thing worked again to ask what they wanted to do... It sounded a lot easier than trying to find them from a huge crowd of people and the thought of trying it wasn't even that scary now when she knew, that at least two of them were still here.

How long had she been gone? Who knew... But now when she was back and had some time to gather her thoughts alone at first, she was ready to let them know about her arrival.

Where are you?

That was it. That was the whole (private) message(s). No one had ever said she was good at being social and it was nothing new to anyone from home. ...Maybe it wasn't such a new thing to Ed either because he got the message too. Should she have said something more or who was calling? That wasn't her style at all.

Just the Revisions

[personal profile] ninjainviolet 2016-02-10 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
Although Sheena hails from Mizuho, it isn't her birthplace. As a matter of fact, no one knows where she had been born--including Sheena. She had been found in the forest near the village by Chief Igaguri and adopted by him--much to the annoyance of the other villagers, since outsiders aren't welcome in Mizuho. Whether her parents had abandoned her or had been killed isn't known, making this Sheena's introduction to being both accepted and rejected at the same time. With the help of her father's faith in her abilities, Sheena struggles to overcome the prejudice of the other villagers and partially succeeds by making friends with two brothers--Orochi and Kuchinawa. This particular battle also teaches her that discrimination is wrong and she doesn't rely on people's looks to make a judgment about them--but only on their actions. So, when she encounters Zelos and the Sage siblings later on, she doesn't quite listen to what she's heard about the Chosen or half-elves, and lets their actions speak for them.

The result of that is her treating them like everyone else. She doesn't revere Zelos at all--even forgetting at times that he's a noble as she calls him out on the things he does and says, not caring that laying a violent hand on him really isn't recommended (and is more than likely against the law considering his position as the second most powerful person after the King). To her, he's simply "Zelos Wilder" and she doesn't want to use him for power or gain like some others on their planet. Ironically, Zelos does the same thing to her in turn, pointing out that her sacrificing herself in order for them to escape is a stupid move--especially since there's no guarantee her plan will work. And in a strange twist, although it annoys her to no end, his flirting with her every chance he gets is a form of acceptance on his part, since in that way, he's treating her like every other woman he's ever met.

In spite of this very antagonistic-seeming relationship, they actually speak to each other about things that have happened and are happening. Sometimes the conversations end in an argument, sometimes they don't, but she doesn't completely dismiss the things he says to her. After Kuchinawa's revelation that he was working against them, betraying her trust, Zelos asks her who had betrayed who first when she declares her hatred of traitors, since in Kuchinawa's eyes it's her because he thinks she hadn't really been trying to make the pact with Volt the first time, resulting in the death of his parents and being able to do so with other Spirits years later with seemingly no effort, but also for her failing to kill Colette and putting Mizuho in danger with the King. Her hair-trigger temper flares then dies quickly after he "retreats" and his words sink in, leaving her speechless and unable to form a defense. Zelos is also the one who knows her well enough that in order to help her start healing after Corrine's death the others need to stop being depressed around her and move on. Otherwise, Corrine's sacrifice would have been in vain.

Corrine is the little man-made Summon Spirit she had met while performing one of the odd jobs she takes on to help rectify the mistake made at Volt's Temple all those years ago. A firm believer in taking responsibility for one's actions and that mistakes can be corrected and forgiven, she sends the money back home to Mizuho to help the families affected by what had happened. Whether they thank her or not is never revealed, but it doesn't stop her from doing all that she can for both the people and the village she loves.

Corrine is the first Spirit she makes a pact with, and that act alone gives her an idea of just what the half-elves of her world go through as those around her start to look at Sheena differently. It's an understanding that helps strengthen her habit of not judging others on their appearance and only on their actions. To not judge a book by its cover. Even after learning her friends Raine and Genis are half-elves--beings treated as garbage by Tethe'allan society--she doesn't care. She tells them that her being from Mizuho--which isn't "mainstream", either--makes them "not that different" from each other.

Although Raine can do one important thing Sheena can't: understand what Volt is saying. Because of this, the ninja learns that what had happened years before had been a horrible accident that no one had been prepared for because no one had known the Spirit spoke an ancient language. It had all been a horrible accident--something that Sheena now has to come to terms with (even though after twelve years, she still blames herself). But as with any injury, sometimes you have to face a renewed pain in order to properly heal.

And while her promise to not judge work fine on humanoids, sadly, her attempts to not be prejudiced fail when it comes to Corrine. On their way to Volt's Temple, the little Spirit tells her he'll protect her if something happens. A sentiment Sheena refutes by telling him he isn't strong enough to do such a thing. She learns the hard way that he is, however, and that the size of the body doesn't always match the size of the heart--or a person's strength. Because of his taking the death blow meant for Sheena and showing his faith in her by urging her to try once more before he dies, Sheena is able to face Volt and prevail--keeping Corrine's Bell as a reminder of the little Spirit whose strength, courage, and heart were much larger than what one could see of his body with their eyes.
