Welcome to the NPC mailbox. Characters are free to send letters to the various NPCs currently in charge of the city. All replies will also be written and sent via messenger bird. Replies may take a while as they are busy officials.

Requests to meet NPCs in person are doable, but there is no guarantee it will happen—at least immediately. Efforts will be made when possible.

Since inquiries are sent via letter, you can write them as long or as short as you wish.

In regards to our numbers rising in regards to those of us who are not native to this city, I have come with a proposal. Many of us are capable of using artes, magic if you will, which could pose a danger to all of us. There is also the fact that there still appears to be apprehension between the two factions, which is understandable given the circumstances.

My proposal would be to find a way to create a system that would promote peace, but also create a law over those of us who are not of this world or dimension. While not disclosed to the masses here, I know the policies of running a country as I am king. Though before anything were to go through, I would like to request an audience with you to find a way to obtain peace and work in harmony. This would be in benefit for both the factions here.

Leadership is absolutely necessary for us and I would take the reigns on this. However, I also believe that your cooperation is necessary.

The question has been thrown around, however, there is no consent. The process in question that will likely happen will be a democracy, or at the very least a parliament system. I understand that other worlds are not accustomed to monarchies. That being said, I am still willing to take the reigns and unite the people until a proper system is set up, then the people can decide. This is for the benefit of everyone.

I can set up a way to contact those interested to come with me to speak with you. Having multiple representations would be beneficial and perhaps speak volumes for how those of us displaced feel. If there are any hostile intentions, I will immediately take care of it.

From one leader to another, I would suggest calling upon other representatives. Your ideals are in the right place, and as the months become busier and your population grows, having some sort of leader or council would appease many from my side as well.

Thank you for the prompt response. I would appreciate a chance to present a dissenting viewpoint to Gaius's proposal, when the time comes. In brief summation, I believe that working within your current government (which has been quite decent to us, which I appreciate even acknowledging that the crystal gives you a very strong impetus to do so) will serve the needs of both native residents and new arrivals better than establishing a separate government for new arrivals.

I have prepared a manuscript detailing a number of theoretical advances in biology and physics which are known to my world, but which I can find little if any mention of in local books. While this document may be of some use to you, I must be of the opinion that nothing in it should be treated as gospel. Basic laws may differ between our worlds, and without confirmation, I can at best offer a possible explanatory framework. There is also less practical engineering information than I would like to be able to share-too much of what I know is either missing intermediate tooling needed to create it, or my own knowledge is too incomplete to provide much of use.

I would also like to discuss something else with you, under strict conditions of confidentiality.
OOC Questions: Jacqli might bring up the subject of EXEC_METAFALICA, a spell from her homeland that requires a human sacrifice to create new land, similar to island expansions writ large. She is fairly certain the locals don't need it, but she wants to judge their reaction to the topic before she discloses what she knows about it.

Dear sir,
As I indicated, my engineering expertise may be of limited value. My primary area of research was the advanced and esoteric field of H-wave and D-wave hyper dimensional field dynamics and interactions. While these effects can be applied in what is commonly referred to as magic, they are somewhat less useful in mundane and day-to-day topics, and I apologize if I leave you with more dead ends and unanswered questions than I help solve.

As a visitor from a world with a similar state of affairs, I find myself sympathetic to your people and wish to discuss some of the means that my own world's inhabitants have tried to use over the years. Some have been more successful than others, but while they are noteworthy and sometimes alarming, I doubt you will find them illegal.

OOC Answers: She will tell him the truth-she knows of it, she doesn't know it herself, she hasn't preformed it, and if she had she would be a small red crystal now because the spell rips the soul of it's caster out of their body with great gusto to create the needed power source. If directly questioned, she will admit that she observed an attempt to use it and was attempting to reverse the process. She will admit that she believes it to be incomplete and riddled with errors.

For that reason, among others, she hasn't included any of her world's magic-science or soul related topics in her bundle of science data. It does include topics like relativity, quantum mechanics, DNA structure and function, protein folding, and a few bits on brain structure and function.

In all truthfulness, I do find many of the otherworlders fascinating, and your information, even should it not function the same as in your world, is interesting all the same. OOC Questions: Pearce will be okay with learning about it, but by the end of the conversation he will say he'll be telling other people about that particular "spell", that being Rebbekah, Sergei, and Ledwika, and no one more. He will be very excited to learn about all she has to teach, even if he may not understand it completely.

Dear Miss Cartwright,

I hope this letter finds you well. In regards to the crystal reactions from the night of Daimonia's appearance, I have found six otherworlders in total including myself who experienced the same reaction. Nearly all agreed that feelings of joy or grief were what they felt most often over all other emotions, although one was uncertain and confessed he had not paid much attention but would do so in the future.

Each reported that their crystal grew warm and glowed pink, which is what alerted them to the reaction in the first place.

I did not ask about specifics regarding which emotion they felt aligned them with Daimonia, but most seemed to indicate they had grieved deeply. However, two also mentioned they were able to find many joys to balance it out.

I do not know if asking them for more detail on their experiences would help, considering how personal it would likely be. If you think those details are necessary, I would be willing to ask if anyone would volunteer the information for research purposes, but I do not know how reliable it would be unless everyone participated.

I will write again if I find any others or get any other information.

Thank you for your message. So far the common link between you and the others is the reaction. Have you spoken to any who have experienced that same range of emotions but did not experience their crystal changing color?

From what I've been able to read so far, it appears that the alignments can come naturally or through a matter of concentration on certain emotions. They also don't have to be particularly strong, but like with us, the greater the emotion, the larger the effect and impact.

I don't know if that helps any, but keep asking around. We might need everyone to start keeping a record of their emotions and see if anything unusual happens.

Thank you for the quick reply. I didn't think to ask about those who also experienced those emotions but no reaction. The discussion with the otherworlder who was uncertain about his own emotions lining up with Daimonia made me realize I will need to revise my line of questioning for the next time, so I will be sure to open up the discussion to as many people as possible once I have the opportunity.

You mentioned alignments could come from concentrating on certain emotions-- do you think, then, that it would be hypothetically possible for someone to create their own reaction by concentrating on feelings of joy or grief? I wonder if it would be worth it to ask and see if anyone would be willing to try.

I don't know how viable it will be to have everyone keep track of their emotions with how scattered we all are, but I will see what I can do. I will keep collecting as much information as I can in the meantime.

When investigating, you have to ask every question, even if they don't seem relevant or insignificant. You never know what answer you'll find that could lead you into a new direction.

I think anything is possible at this point, so you can't rule that out. The only way we'll know if it works or not is if it's tried.

To be honest I doubt everyone in your group would even be reliable. It would be better if you had actual volunteers who would be aware of what they feel. There's an exercise we use on children as they develop and train how to deal with their emotions, especially the problematic ones. They keep a diary of what they feel, when they felt it, and what happened. It's simple and effective, so you could try that.

I think I will reconsider the survey questions and ask for volunteers next time. Since my crystal already reacted, I will have to find someone willing to try to focus their emotions to see if they can cause one of their own. I will ask people to volunteer to keep journals as well.

Will the exact contents of the journals need to be known? If there are difficult memories people are worried about, it may make it harder to find volunteers.

As for the journals, no. Specifics are always helpful in pinpointing certain issues, but I doubt they would be required in this kind of exercise. A larger sample will also reduce any need for specifics.
