In regards to our numbers rising in regards to those of us who are not native to this city, I have come with a proposal. Many of us are capable of using artes, magic if you will, which could pose a danger to all of us. There is also the fact that there still appears to be apprehension between the two factions, which is understandable given the circumstances.

My proposal would be to find a way to create a system that would promote peace, but also create a law over those of us who are not of this world or dimension. While not disclosed to the masses here, I know the policies of running a country as I am king. Though before anything were to go through, I would like to request an audience with you to find a way to obtain peace and work in harmony. This would be in benefit for both the factions here.

Leadership is absolutely necessary for us and I would take the reigns on this. However, I also believe that your cooperation is necessary.

I have prepared a manuscript detailing a number of theoretical advances in biology and physics which are known to my world, but which I can find little if any mention of in local books. While this document may be of some use to you, I must be of the opinion that nothing in it should be treated as gospel. Basic laws may differ between our worlds, and without confirmation, I can at best offer a possible explanatory framework. Dear Miss Cartwright,

I hope this letter finds you well. In regards to the crystal reactions from the night of Daimonia's appearance, I have found six otherworlders in total including myself who experienced the same reaction. Nearly all agreed that feelings of joy or grief were what they felt most often over all other emotions, although one was uncertain and confessed he had not paid much attention but would do so in the future.

Each reported that their crystal grew warm and glowed pink, which is what alerted them to the reaction in the first place.

I did not ask about specifics regarding which emotion they felt aligned them with Daimonia, but most seemed to indicate they had grieved deeply. However, two also mentioned they were able to find many joys to balance it out.

I do not know if asking them for more detail on their experiences would help, considering how personal it would likely be. If you think those details are necessary, I would be willing to ask if anyone would volunteer the information for research purposes, but I do not know how reliable it would be unless everyone participated.

I will write again if I find any others or get any other information.

Thank you for your message. So far the common link between you and the others is the reaction. Have you spoken to any who have experienced that same range of emotions but did not experience their crystal changing color?

From what I've been able to read so far, it appears that the alignments can come naturally or through a matter of concentration on certain emotions. They also don't have to be particularly strong, but like with us, the greater the emotion, the larger the effect and impact.

I don't know if that helps any, but keep asking around. We might need everyone to start keeping a record of their emotions and see if anything unusual happens.

I am sorry for the wait between letters. Although I have attempted to research the Arehtei further, there has not been much luck with the volunteers who agreed to try keeping journals and focusing on certain emotions. This may be due to having only a few willing to test it; I may look into putting up a job posting in the near future.

However, I have observed a few things about the Arehtei during their visits, and I wondered if you would have any thoughts on them.

Firstly, each of the Arehtei we have seen so far seem to have dark markings on their bodies, almost like some sort of corruption. Considering how different their appearances are otherwise, it seems strange for them to each bear the same mark. I believe this may tie into the fact that each time they appear in this state, they seem to cause feelings of negativity in Otherworlders associated with them. For Daimonia, it was a sense of grief, and others have reported feeling rage when Sosyne appeared, as well as hatred with Elios. In Sosyne's case, it was also reported that the Otherworlder's crystal glowed dark purple; I suspect it was meant to be Sosyne's color, but the negativity caused it to appear darkened.

Another Otherworlder has mentioned that he heard the voice of Peromei asking for more hope, and that she sounded as though she were in pain. These reports are leading me to believe that the Arehtei may be full of negative emotions, and require strong positive emotions to create balance - which is more easily obtained from us Otherworlders due to our crystals.

But so far, it's only a hypothesis. If you have any thoughts or ideas of how we can learn more, I would be interested in reading them.

I have been pouring over the available material and revisited both the temple and Inoman about the Arehtei. The translations are still in progress, but so far there has been little mention of their actual physical presence. They are mostly alluded to as "spiritual beings" that are related to the balance and harmony of the emotions of this world. I've come to the understanding that at least in the time period we are currently researching, the question of whether they were real or just man-made manifestations of faith, similar to the notion of gods and other spirits that is shared amongst worlds.

So with that said, there is nothing written about the state of an Arehtei or what happens if there is more of one type of emotion or another. It's very likely the people of this time period had no idea and it would seem to indicate the Arehtei had never really made themselves physically known. If it's true that a great amount of negativity is adversely affecting them, and if your people are somehow creating more powerful emotions, then that could be why they are attracted to the island and making themselves known.

As seen with Elios, however, this could be dangerous. In my opinion, it seemed to be "starving" for its branch of emotions, and that was unmistakably Sosyne earlier.

Since it's become more clear that the Otherworlders are capable of communicating with them, it is imperative that those who are able try and figure out their motives. Direct answers will be the most efficient and best way to figure out what's going on, and if these Arehtei have always existed, then they should have answers.

I have invited her here to take my completed amulet. She seemed to be completely preoccupied with someone else's despair on this island before I offered her hope, and she is currently in a state of despair herself, so maybe we still have time to prepare. I believe the best way to prepare for her arrival is to gather more hope and send it to her.

With regards to the potential arrival of Peromei, the Priestess Kochiya mentioned two matters that have attracted the Arehtei's attention. Of the issue on her full crystal and the provision of hope, a course of action is already being carried out. But it is on the second issue that I have concerns on, as the identity to this despairing individual remains a mystery to us all.

If a crystal of one filled with hope is a creamy white, as such is the case for the Priestess, then it stands to reason that one filled with despair would have a crystal that is coloured a murkier shade of white, perhaps even grey. And so I humbly propose that the emotion collection records be opened to inspection by the proper authorities, to locate the person who carries with him or her such a crystal.

Progressive Apathy Syndrome is caused by apathy parasites, Exterobus apathes, which from a remote location may consume a human's emotions. Consequently, the individual may neither experience emotions nor have emotion drops formed within their amulet. I believe that extracting the toxin E. apathes secretes and utilizing it to induce apathy into Junko Enoshima will function as a means to inhibit her emotions. Inhibition of her emotions will cut off the primary source of Peromei's despair. With enough time, I may be able to attenuate the toxin to specifically despair, sparing Junko's other emotions in the process. If nothing else, this may be only a temporary measure until after Peromei arrives.

OOC Questions: Victor's intending to do honest research, but his real intention is to uncover a means to bring Victoria into Verens. He's deluded, as evidenced from his canon point, and exhibits signs of instability. So if his work on the crystal comes out, more so when, or his role becomes known, I believe Edea wouldn't feel comfortable having Victor around the crystal. So she might say/do something depending on her player. Of course, anything drastic won't happen without approval and discussion. But if there's small scale stuff he can get away with for his 'true research' that can fly under the radar for a while, that'd be grand!

Also if there's anything you'd want to handwaive, please let me know. If Rebbekah would approach Edea or someone from Victor's world for a reference, feel free. It might be a good way to get the "hold up this isn't a good idea" thing out there. whatever works.

So this isn't an attempt at IC contact, exactly, but I figured this would be the best/most relevant place for this? Astor is going to be doing his spy thing and spending a few days each discreetly tailing Ledwika and Sergei and probably also Rebbekah some time later once it starts sinking in how important emotions really are around here. So basically I'd just like to know how easy/difficult a time he'll have with it and if he'll find out anything particularly interesting in doing so. o7

I am so sorry for the delay! This just got completely lost!

For Sergei and Ledwika, they will be much harder. Ledwika doesn't actually travel outside of the government offices too much. Her manor is within the same district, she takes a horse and carriage for her method of transportation, and while she does go around the city every so often to take a look and inspect things, it's never publicly announced and again, she usually just stays in the carriage. Sergei is always with her during these outings and for any important political talks. He's basically like her bodyguard but without needing to be at her side at all times. That is because Sergei has personally hand selected the best of the best for Ledwika.

Sergei himself follows a similar pattern in that he doesn't really travel much outside of his work. If not with Ledwika, he's with at the Enforcers HQ in his office working. A lot. He does go out to personally investigate matters if he feels that his officers cannot do it (which is actually more often than one might think) or it's an important matter. There are no bodyguards or any kind of security for himself because Sergei is his own guard. We haven't really had him display his true prowess, mostly as there have been either lack of need as well as time. But if Astor were to tail Sergei, he'd be able to follow for a little bit for Sergei would lose him. This could be because he actually noticed Astor or because he's just doing his normal routine of being careful in general (he's the "lone wolf" kind of guy).

So for those two, there's nothing much interesting other than learning more about their behavior/lifestyle.

REBEKKAH, however. She's easy. There aren't as much security detail on them and she just goes about wherever she wants whenever she wants however she wants. That said, she usually sticks by the Observatory for her research, and currently is just married to the giant crystal problem. Now her there may be an opportunity to learn something, so it kind of depends on what Astor is looking for or trying to find/do.

I wanted to ask you about our crystals. I suspect you or someone you know has done research on our crystals compared to the crystals of people born in this world, but have you ever been given a completed crystal to keep for studying?

Thras thinks there's something special about us, and recently I went to different areas that used to be the domains of the Arehtei to test the land and how hard or easy it was to get anything to grow with our emotions. I found out that while Daimonia and Thras both have cities of people aligned to them, nothing actually grows around them. Except when we took that trip to Elios's old lands, we found small plants growing there.

Life grew with emotions near Daimonia's city, but not Thras's. I think it might have something to do with us, but I'm not a hundred percent sure.

That's why I wanted to know if you've ever had one of our crystals to study. If you haven't and you think you could get something out of having one, I can give you my spare. You can break it or whatever you need to do. Daimonia's said before they contain our "essence"?

I'm doing okay. Dai left to go up to the island to visit her family a few weeks ago or so and she hasn't come back, so I think she might have business with some of you up there. I know Emizel wanted to ask her something... Anyway, I've been sort of busy because of that, especially since I have to think of what Dai'd want and what she'd say...

It isn't that hard? I know her almost as well as I know myself most d mos most days. She does throw me for a loop sometimes, but she has faith in me, and I would never want to spurn that...

Your elk looks friendly. I met a nice fish when I went to the lake the other day.

I asked the council about it, and they think the local firefly fish population might be changing. They don't usually have stripes like this... I don't think it's a bad thing.

I don't know if I can come by sometime. I asked the council and they said no, of course, and Dai told me we'd talk about it when she got back. This month and the next are probably going to be very busy for me, since Boreas's Sorrows is next month, but maybe I could ask about the month after? I would like to meet your elk, even if you can't meet my fish.

Sigrun Eide,

Thank you for the trinket. I don't know when "December" or "July" are, though the beginning of "December" reminds me of "Deca," which is the tenth month on our calendar, and the beginning of Notus. If it helps, I have written an easy way to remember the months:

Ena = First. If you wrote "one" backwards and replaced the "o" with an "a," you would get the word "Ena."
Dua = Second. It's similar to the word "dual," meaning "two."
Tria = Third. A tricycle is a child's toy that has three wheels.
Tessa = Fourth. It sounds like it only has four letters, thanks to the double s: tesa.
Penta = Fifth. It has five letters, and it is the fifth month.
Exi = Sixth. Similar to Ena, if you switched six's last two letters and changed the "s" to an "e," you would get the word "Exi."
Empta = Seventh. There isn't a very easy way to remember this one, so try your best to do it on your own. I have faith that such a stellar captain such as yourself can manage that.
Ochta = Eighth. An octopus has eight limbs, and "Ochta" sounds similar to that.
Ennea = Ninth. The beginning of this month sounds similar to the first letter of "nine," but try not to mix it up with Ena. I know it is easier said than done.
Deca = Tenth. A "decade" is ten years, and "Deca" is the tenth month.
Endeca = Eleventh. It's the tenth month plus one (Ena), so it's Endeca.
Dodeca = Twelfth. The "do" part is similar to "dua," which makes it the tenth month plus two. Hence: Dodeca.

After some thought, I have also decided to give you an easy-to-remember version for our seasons as well. Keep in mind the calendar seasons start while the actual seasons are in full swing, rather than when they actually begin (as I hear it usually starts to get colder at the end of Boreas, despite Notus not starting until the next month).

Zephyras = A word that feels refreshing and like a gentle breeze. It brings to mind flowers in full bloom, though inside Theasthai, we are able to coax that response whenever we wish.
Eurus = A word that is still light, yet gives off a stuffy feeling. It's a season that you wish to spend out with other people due to the warmer weather.
Boreas = Mild and boring, hence Bor-eas. I hear the colors of the trees used to change during this season, but there is not much to see at home in regards to that.
Notus = A chilly, dark word that inspires the sun's early set and the stars' early rise. Like Eurus, you want to spend time with other people, but inside, where the cold will not reach you.
