[ applications: canon characters ]

— APPLICATIONS ARE ALWAYS OPEN

Reserves OPEN
OC Applications are here

IMPORTANT! We are officially in endgame until August 31, 2020. Applications are on a rolling basis. There is a small "block" period from the 1st through the 4th of every month to allow a bulk of apps to be submitted, and then applications can be submitted at any time during the month. Notices will be sent out all at once after the first "block" period, and then between 24 hours to the end of the weekend depending on how many and our schedule. Applications are guaranteed to be processed during the weekends.

Before applying, please be sure to read the following:

  • Read the Rules and the Game Information.
  • Double check the Reserves and Taken Characters lists (A-M | N-Z) to make sure the character you're applying for is not on the list. Also check the comments in case the entry has yet to be updated, as well as any pending applications.
  • RETURNING PLAYERS! You only need to submit any old application. Does not matter how long ago, as long as it was accepted and you have good standing (ie, not banned), it will be valid.
  • Feel free to use the most recent test drive both for practice as well as to use for samples. IMPORTANT! If you submit threads as samples, you must submit the application with that character journal. This is the only way we can ensure that the samples are from you and not someone else.
  • Linked samples must have been made within the past year.
  • You may apply for up to two characters per month.
  • Application challenges are allowed. Reserves will have priority, but it's not definitive. We will choose the better application regardless.
  • Do not plagiarize. If we find that the information provided was directly taken by either another player or source material such a wiki, the application will be rejected immediately. If we find this after processing the application, we will revoke the application and have you removed from the game with potential ban.
  • Reusing content from your own applications from other games is allowed. However, the application must follow our format, and we ask any original written samples to conform to our game. That is, we don't want to read samples that are set specifically for another game's premise. Note: this does not apply to threads linked from other games used as samples.
  • If you are rejected, you cannot reapply for the same character for two weeks. However, you can apply for a different character in that timeframe.
  • Those accepted must fill out all of the required entries within a week to be considered part of the game. Otherwise, we will consider it a revocation of the application.
  • Fill out the form and comment to this entry! You can either paste the application directly to the entry or link it from your own journal/musebox.

We have compiled sample applications from our players to show what the mod team and the application moderators are looking for in terms of writing quality and depth. We hope you find these samples useful!

⌈ PLAYER SECTION ⌉

Player:
Contact: Journal/Plurk/AIM — anything to help identify since someone might share your name handle.
Age: You must be at least 13 years old to apply.
Current Characters: If a new player, just put "N/A"

⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character:
Age:
Canon:
Canon Point:

Background: We do not need a play by play of their life. You can of course provide one, but it's not necessary. A summary of their role in the canon and important events involving their character will suffice. Wiki links are allowed.

Personality: Tell us everything you can about how the character works. What are their quirks, reasons for thinking, habits, and flaws—basically we want to know not only how they act, but also why they act that way. You are free to use canon as examples, but be sure to explain why you are referencing the event.

Abilities: If there are any particular abilities the character has supernatural or otherwise, list them here. Referencing to a wiki list is acceptable. However, if there are any particular abilities that need to be weakened or removed, note them here.

Alignment: Please refer to the Alignment entry to choose which alignment your character would most likely fall under. Include a brief (a couple of sentences max) just to help explain why you think your choice is the best fit.

Other: Anything else you'd like to mention.

⌈ SAMPLE SECTION ⌉

We have two sample requirements.

General Sample: We should see examples of the character's dialogue as well as some introspection or additional narrative to further show how you intend to write the character. This is the most important part of the sample and where most of the weight will be.

Emotion Sample: This is our "game setting" requirement. Essentially we want to ensure that you have a basic grasp of the game's premise, especially with the use of emotions. It can be a small scene, even incidental to the main sample. A reminder that apathetic characters will also create effects, such as loss of color, surface distortion, holes forming. This section doesn't have to be lengthy, but the effect must be clear for us to see.

The emotion sample can be part of the general character sample. If so, please link directly or directly quote that portion so that it's easier for us to quickly find it.

The samples can be "written" in three different ways and you can choose which one will work best for you:

  1. Test Drive. You can utilize our test drive to cover both requirements of the sample. So long as there is enough character portrayal and a scene with an emotional reaction, be it within the prompt or done during the thread, then it can be used for both.
  2. Link out + Written. You can link to threads/entries from other games, memes, or museboxes to show character portrayal, and then write an additional short scene for the emotion portion of the sample.
  3. Original Sample. You can write a complete sample that shows both character portrayal and a scene involving emotion use. This can be one sample or two separate samples. If you opt to write an original sample, you are welcome to use any prompts from any of our Test Drives, Intro Logs, Task Board, and even past events. You are also free to change things up and are not restricted to any of these prompts. They are just here to help offer ideas.

Format wise, you can use either [ brackets ] OR narrative prose. We do require that the writing at least be coherent, have proper sentence structure, and is mostly grammatically correct (we realize that writing styles can be loose/creative in [ bracket ] form so we're giving a bit more leeway). One last suggestion we have is try to have the character interacting with the environment and try thinking of the sample less of a narrative piece but more like a post or thread prompt you might make in the game. That will help the sample show not only how you will write the character, but also how you will play them in practice.

Questions: If you have any questions, ask them here.

I hope this one is better explained and a proper expansion...

Eugene is the name he received when he arrived at the orphanage. He was a cheerful, optimistic child with great hope in life; he was like an older brother to the other kids, he was admired by everyone. Every night he read them the adventures of Flynnigan Rider, a millionaire adventurer whom he took as his role model; his childhood hero. Little by little he began to dream about what his parents would be like, believing that they would be an adventurous couple and that someday they would go looking for him. It was his way of feeling loved, somehow, by someone he didn't know at all since he couldn't remember them. However that day seemed not to come, so that joy and hope he had gave way to sadness and loneliness, and with it the rancor.

After escaping the orphanage with his best friend, Eugene hid all those negative feelings under a mask and a new nickname: Flynn Rider. Flynn's only goal was to be a young millionaire, to buy an island in the middle of nowhere and retire at an early age surrounded by luxuries. It was not a simple dream, but he did not give up. In fact, that same dream was what led him to steal everything that shone and of great value. Over time "Eugene" ceased to exist completely, joy had been replaced by arrogance and self-centeredness. The only thing that mattered more than expensive jewels was himself. He didn't care about anything or anyone else. In fact, on more than one occasion -especially in times of tension as he was about to be captured- he betrayed teammates to save his skin. Those he betrayed took that act as one of cowardice, but the reality was very different. Whatever the reason was, those he betrayed want to see him dead. Another method with which he used to save himself when captured was by using his face or absurd humor; if it was a woman, he tried to coax her with words and looks so that she would fall at his feet, if his captor was a man, he resorted to mockery and blarney. It didn't always work (something that is demonstrated when he tries to hypnotize Rapunzel with his gaze), and in those cases he kept trying while looking for a way out without being noticed. Flynn proved to be a foxy person by always escaping, being one of the most wanted thieves. However, as cunning as it was, he never considered the repercussions of his actions. And it is that at present these betrayals and courtships do nothing but cause problems and put his life and those around him in danger (besides being despised by many).

What was going to be his last robbery he met Rapunzel, at which point the mask of Flynn Rider began to fall. From the moment he lost all communication with his best friend, Flynn stopped trusting people, and Rapunzel was no exception at that time. But, because somehow the object that was going to fulfill his dream had ended up in her hands, he was forced to help her escape from the tower and reach the city. The way she wouldn't be fooled by his charms, or how she seemed to care about him even if it was only because of the pact they had, Flynn dropped his defenses and let her see how he really was. Despite the years that had passed (and now being an adult) he was still a vulnerable person, that all that confidence and optimism he showed was only a defense mechanism against the world. Rapunzel was the first person in whom he placed some trust, and with her he discovered that money was not everything in life. When Rapunzel was back to her tower (and with her 'mother') he could just go back to his business, but he couldn't find any sense to anything anymore. Knowing that she was in danger, she didn't hesitate a second to go after her.

Flynn Rider died in the tower where Rapunzel had lived most of his life. Literally and metaphorically. That lack of fear led him to be badly injured and on the verge of death, but he did not regret... In fact, despite the pain he felt better than ever after seeing Rapunzel was fine (or as fine as she could be at that moment). At that moment he also proved himself capable of anything for the people he loves, because he preferred to cut Rapunzel's hair so that she could be free before letting her save his life and being a prey forever. After she revived him with a tear, his eyes opened as Eugene Fitzherbert.

After helping Rapunzel return with his real family, the kings of Corona, and that all his past crimes were forgiven, he was once again the cheerful person he once was. He still doesn't fear anything and loves trying new things no matter how risky they are, especially if it seems like something fun. Eugene can be a determined and stubborn person, when something enters his mind, he doesn't stop until he gets it. Of course, that sometimes brings problems and possible humiliations. Something that happened when he decided to propose to Rapunzel at the worst of times and was rejected. That same rejection by her managed to make him insecure on the issue of relationships, sometimes he thinks he knows everything and the next second he wonders if he really knows (when he wanted to ask for a second marriage he heard a conversation that he misinterpreted and caused even more insecurities in it). He needs to know everything about his partner. Although he has repeatedly mentioned wanting to be patient and wait for her to open up to him, he cannot help feeling hurt when he knows (or thinks) that she is hiding something from him. The night Rapunzel regained her long blond hair and lied to him, although he agreed to help her so no one else would see her hair, Eugene couldn't help but be stubborn wanting to know what happened. Perhaps that need is due to his inexperience with couples, because during his life as a thief he only had one partner (and was per interest) and things did not end very well. In fact, it ended with him running away the day would get married. He is a romantic person and that cannot be denied; every time he has the opportunity he has details with Rapunzel, looks for moments even during his adventures outside the castle to have a date...

Eugene easily trusts people close to him. Maybe too much. When he meets his childhood friend, he proves to be an dreamer; when his friend asks him for help with a most bizarre and meaningless plan, Eugene believes him and ends up robbing one of the most dangerous thieves in the world. Despite feeling hurt and upset about the lie, he ends up repeating the same mistake on several occasions with different people although, fortunately, only the theft could bring him serious problems since seems he still does that. Only, however, with people he knows properly. With those he just meets his level of trust depends on the other's personality.

Although he loves to live between real massages, eat and sleep whenever he wants, he needs to feel better about himself. Have a clear conscience when knowing, or believing, that he is doing something by himself and not living at the expense of his girlfriend. Not only that, but he needs to do something right, compensate for those years of crimes. That led him to try to become a royal guard, but due to his past as a thief he was not accepted as such no matter how much he had passed the final test. He was accepted to train the royal guard to think like a real thief, to make it easier for them to capture any thugs. He is a person with a lot of pride, he must be the one doing things right.

Although sadness and loneliness have disappeared of his life, rancor is still there.
