[ archived ] mailbox
Welcome to the NPC mailbox. Characters are free to send letters to the various NPCs currently in charge of the city. All replies will also be written and sent via messenger bird. Replies may take a while as they are busy officials.
Requests to meet NPCs in person are doable, but there is no guarantee it will happen—at least immediately. Efforts will be made when possible.
Since inquiries are sent via letter, you can write them as long or as short as you wish.
To schedule a thread with an Arehtei, refer to this entry.

CURLS
ARE YOU FREE TO HANG OUT BECAUSE I HAVE SOMETHING TO ASK YOU AND IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT. ALSO I WANT YOU TO MEET MY NEW ELK. WELL, YOU CAN'T REALLY, BECAUSE HE'S BEING TAKEN CARE OF BY MY FRIEND UNTIL I'M UNBANNED FROM DOING SERIOUS STUFF (HIS ORDERS NOT MINE, I OWE HIM PEACE AND QUIET) BUT HIS NAME'S THORIM AND HE'S GREAT. VERY TALL. TALLER THAN ME. AND HE TALKS SOMETIMES.
IF YOU'RE TOO BUSY THEN THAT'S OKAY, IT JUST KIND OF FEELS WEIRD TO WRITE PEOPLE THINGS WHEN THEY'RE IN THE SAME CITY AS YOU.
YOUR FRIEND
CAPTAIN SIGRUN EIDE

Message:
Sigrun Eide,
I am. Find me at the Plinking Inn. Don't ask me how to get there, because I've been in this city for a little less than two months, and I still cannot fathom how anyone gets around in this mess. Theasthai was so much easier to navigate.
May Daimonia watch over you,
Sophia Katsaros
Troupe Leader of the Seven Stars

It feels like it'd be a little cheap to get them both fixed up. But she probably will by the end of the month.
When Sigrun gets a hold of her, Sophia's getting a good look over and the important question immediately:]
So how's Verens treating you, confusing mess aside?
no subject
A little warmer than I expected, both in temperature and in attitude. [ Her surprisingly heavy clothes from Theasthai don't exactly work here; there's less layers now, more skin showing past sheer fabric without it being too risque.
...She may also have a hair clip with a gear on it tucking her bangs to the side, as frivolously unnecessary as that might be. ] I thought it would be worse, but the locals here outnumber all of you... and outnumber home even more.
[ Theasthai's population is—she doesn't know specifics, she doesn't pay attention, but she's almost certain it's nothing compared to what she's seen of Verens. Especially considering the size of the damn thing. ]
Now, [ Sophia smiles wider, eyebrows raising slightly as she sets a hand on her hip, ] what'd you want to ask me, Captain?
no subject
That, and... I kind of wanted to ask you about the little lamb? I mean, tiny curls. The brother's that not your brother. Feofan.
no subject
...There's nothing to ask about!
[ She spreads her hands this time, then motions her along before she starts down the street. They're going to get something to eat, she's decided this, and there is like, one eatery she is familiar with here. ]
no subject
[Like, she's following Sophia, but still. Look at that question.]
no subject
That's not important. [ ...That also isn't answering the question, and blatantly so. ] The only family I have and want is my troupe, Captain. I've said that, haven't I?
no subject
[It's important to her.]
I mean, not that it matters at the moment because you're stuck here and he's stuck there, and I'm pretty sure you can't get an audience with him normally? But maybe if he ever gets the chance to visit here [which she asked about] you two can do sibling things. Or get ice cream.
no subject
[ At least it isn't said as harshly as it could've been; the edge is still there, but she isn't being completely mean. ]
...It is more than okay to grieve the unknown, [ she concedes, hands lowering to her sides, ] but I do not, and I never have. I was only seven or eight when he left with our mother and the council, Captain.
no subject
[... Sigrun can concede to the not being interested thing, at least, it's not like you can force that. But at least it's been addressed. From how it sounded, their mother's completely out of the picture too? Feofan was raised by Daimonia and the council, Sophia by her troupe. Not to mention their dad..?]
Alright, I won't ask again. For now. I mean, my next question's kind of personal too, I guess, but not as much? As a heads up, since I'm going to ask anyway.
no subject
Ah, our stop!
[ Come on, come on—evidently she's at least a familiar face to some of the waiters, seeing as they smile when she steps in, and she returns it albeit a little tightly. Once they're seated (outside, because the temperature is warm) and waiting for anything otherwise, Sophia... sighs, resting her chin in her hand. ]
You may continue to pry into my illustrious private life, Captain.

So up here, there's a kind of festival thing called Selenium that's... called something different where you're from, I know. I saw it on the task board. [...] Do you see people or whatever you miss too?
no subject
For the record, I find this more personal than anything you could have asked about Feofan.
[ Just... putting that out there. ]
Generally speaking, sometimes. Some people claim to have seen those they wish to see again when visiting the Hanging Gardens, while others call it nonsense. [ She shrugs slightly. ] I am in favor of believing those that have seen things—why wouldn't I be? It is a romantic notion, one that fits well with the stories we share and sing of.
It is the one week of the year we can truly grieve too, to be frank. Not that we do not any other time, but it is a week where we are encouraged to unabashedly miss what we have lost, to embrace the past. Afterwards, we are renewed to a better present and future, and can continue living the way we always have: without regret.

[Sigrun's eyes remain towards the clouds for a little longer after her apology, chewing on her lip, and then they lower as she leans on the table between them, careful of her arm.]
I was way curious if it was the same as it is here. I mean, it's kind of cool that they're similar? Makes me think that this city and yours are more alike than anyone could've thought, like maybe you were the same people or... something.
[...]
Or that traditions can stay the same across centuries and miles, I guess, which makes sense. Happened with my people too, even after everything that's happened.
[She grins a little, but it drops into more serious.]
See, I miss my family, and I miss Dalsnes a lot, but something that comes with all of that is the creatures I used to hunt back home. I don't want them hurting any of the people here, 'cause I'm totally great and can take care of anything that appears but I'm still just one person, you know? There's all kinds of types, with garms being the most vicious around Dalsnes. And ghosts are not something you want to make mad, generally speaking. You get what I'm saying?
no subject
[ A quick smile that falls to a little more serious one as well; she drums her fingers against her cheek thoughtfully. ]
The ghosts cannot hurt people, I am fairly certain. They may scare the unsuspecting, and that may cause harm... but they themselves will not cause any. At least, I have never heard of anyone getting hurt by the spirits that are rumored to appear, not in all my years in Theasthai. [ ... ] I suppose I will get to see for myself whether or not they do so here, same as you. I have two more months or so to serve for my temporary exile, if they will allow me to return to my city once the ban on our troupe activities are lifted.
no subject
Glad to hear that chances are high that no one'll get hurt by them! And I hope you get to go back to your city, too. Being far from home really sucks when there's nothing really the same.
[She's got experience twice now. Too open skies, too crowded a place. That's all this is.]
... So uh, what's the chance of you not being let back? And what if they don't let you. I mean, I think that pink beast of yours is pretty nice, so I don't think you're in any danger of it or anything, but what's your back up plan?
no subject
[ A small laugh. ]
I like to push their limits and boundaries, is all. Still, I don't think they'll force me to stay here. [ Sophia curls a curl around her finger. ] If they do, then I will simply ask as many of my troupe that wishes to join me up here to do so, and we will make our living here as we do down there: singing songs and putting on plays, exploring the rich history of Theasthai and her imagination.
[ And adventuring. ]
no subject
[A little teasing, because all players are well-traveled in her world anyway. It's not too odd to think that Sophia and her troupe's the same.]
What kind of stories do you have yourself? That isn't about your city and her history.
no subject
Mostly about how people imagine the world used to be, and how it could be in the future.
no subject
[All good things! All very important things.]
