Character: Alice L. Malvin
Current Canon Point: Volume 11, Chapter 42: "The Children's War"
Updated Canon Point: Volume 11, Chapter 45: "As a Living Being"
Updated Background:
When last we left Alice she was caught in the midst of a faction war between several bosses in District Zero, all instigated by one Public Financier Representative Mr. Londario in order to root out what he sees as part of the Empire's weakness before the upcoming Nevi-Euro joint summit where the Empire may lose it's footing as a major power among the other nations.
Alice fought alongside the Tumble Weed Group, a collection of orphans who watch out after one another. Randel is a member of the group who's since left but still sends money back when he can. After this comes a rush to find Mr. Londario and stop him from igniting the faction war through killing one of the faction heads, Calendine, on the turf of another of the faction heads known as Grandma.
Randel goes off to try and stop Calendine himself while Alice goes after splitting up with the Tumble Weed Group to try and stop Mr. Londario himself. She also wants to answer Mr. Londario's question from before this whole mess began - "What if war relief operations were to succeed?". Mr. Londario saw war relief as the army's excuse to continue collecting taxes from the people for their own use. He likens it to mold that consumes a tree feeding a flowerbed, slowly killing it off. So too does the government's siphoning of money off the people through underhanded means kill off the populace.
Alice finds Mr. Londario's vehicle and stops him in the road to simply give him an answer to his previous question. She begins by telling him simply that war relief operations have yet to end, then she delves into why this is. She admits that truly there is no clear ending in sight because the effects of war can last much longer than the war itself. Much like fire fighters or police officers, she compares the duties of a war relief unit to these constantly needed public services.
Even if it does seem endless though, Alice states that war relief means to fight for the sake of the people. She now believes peace is living your life to the fullest no matter where you are or what your circumstances may be. Where she once thought District Zero was simply a part of the war damages, she now can see a thriving town on it's own full of life and full of people trying to live in the best ways they can. To Alice battle exists as something to accomplish and for most people this includes big and small things like wanting to have good grades or finding love. They are all fights that use up people's "fighting spirit" and that is something that must be built back up in order for people to pursue the fights they want to go through in their lives to accomplish what they wish to accomplish.
She goes on to tell the story of Randel's father who as a doctor poured his fighting spirit into helping others. Those who lose their fighting spirit become unable to fight when they should be able to, fall into despair and irrationality against what their lives have become. The rules they must live by become twisted and it is the goal of war relief to untwist those rules, to give people a world where they can build up their fighting spirit and pursue what they truly want in their lives. In the end Alice believes a goal of war relief is to challenge the rules twisted by those who would use war as an excuse and build up the foundations of their work on that.
After this Mr. Londario's driver rushes the pair. Alice's leg was injured earlier when protecting the Tumble Weed Group and she falls to him, ending up pinned to the ground with a dislocated shoulder. In the end she is rescued by two of the other older Tumble Weed Group members who still lives in District Zero. After this negotiations begin with Mr. Londario and the heads of the four groups controlling District Zero.
Alice ends up leaving the District before the negotiations are finished to avoid Randel seeing her injured.
Updated Personality:
Alice has gained more assurance in her views on war relief and her mission with it. This was something she had been thinking about for several chapters already so she more or less came in with these ideas already. This chapter cements them though and shows what Alice strives for when it comes to her duties.
Other than this, Alice is much the same as ever. She's a little unsure on the topic of love still and she's very much focused on what she wishes to achieve.
Updated Abilities:
Her abilities are the same.
Other:
Alice will be coming back into game with a dislocated shoulder and a healing gunshot wound on her right thigh. I'd like her to be gone from June 28th to July 1st.
Questions: None.
