[ canon update ]
If you'd like to update your character to a different canon point, fill out the form below and comment to this entry. Please note that characters can only be updated to source material that has been out for at least one month. We will try and process canon updates within 48 hours.
ICly, When your character is on a canon update, they completely disappear from the world. It's almost as if they were removed the game, however there's a key difference. Their amulet will remain and be in a translucent state. Characters will be gone from the game from three days to a week. They will reappear wherever their amulet is and can continue their progress from wherever they left off. They will also retain all of their memories.

Current Canon Point: Just after she dies in XIII-2
Updated Canon Point: Leaving for the New World in Lightning Returns
Updated Background: A lot happens that Yeul has no direct part in, and yet she's to blame for it all more or less. Noel and Serah proceed to continue their attempt to stop Cocoon from falling, thereby changing the future. They fight Caius in an attempt to stop him from putting an end to time, and yet his Heart of Chaos is destroyed, killing him... and releasing all the Chaos out of the unseen realm into the physical world, destroying the large majority of it.
Skip forward 500 years to the next game. In those years, the Chaos continued to spread, destroying what was left of the world. In fact, the world will be completely obliterated in a matter of days. There were no new births, and time was essentially frozen in that nobody aged.
Yeul spent those 500 years in the Temple of the Goddess, which was brought into the physical world from Valhalla when the Chaos escaped. She knew what Lightning had to do and spread the word through the chaos to the people living in the Wildlands and the Angel of Valhalla. This way when Light did arrive, the legend about herself would help guide her to the white chocobo and eventually the temple.
More than that though, all the Yeuls are the source of the Chaos. It is the darkness born in the heart, splintered off and coalescing into an uncontrollable force every time Yeul died and was reborn. Described as a "cancer", the Yeuls' love for Caius, half wishing to grant him peace and the other half desiring to keep him with them created a contradiction that could not be contained. It is the dark force that broke out and dragged Lightning out of the physical world, turning her into Etro's Champion, and it is the writhing Chaos destroying what's left of Gran Pulse, aka Nova Crysalia.
Lightning did attempt to comply with Yeul's wish to save Caius and free him, but he refused, insisting that he needed to stay and care for Yeul. Finding it to be hopeless, she moved on leaving Caius with all his many young charges.
At the end of the game, when all the souls of humanity were departing for the New World, Caius and the collective of Yeuls said that they would stay behind and serve as the guidance the dead require. After a minor skerfluffle with Noel about Yeul remaining in the shadows of death, Caius releases the final one (the Yeul in Emp) from that existence. In doing, he commits her care to Noel.
Updated Personality: Yeul remains largely the same despite the large timespan. Although, having spent 500 years in isolation with her previous incarnations and Caius will have diminished her innocence remarkably. She remains hopeful and more cheerful than many of her counterparts, but that is tempered by a painful realization that she is the reason Lightning was ripped out of time and that their world was eventually destroyed. She will be actively be seeking ways to atone for this atrocity. A little more subdued and slower to smile than before.
Updated Abilities: Nada. As she's separated from the remainder of the collective of Yeuls, she does not get to keep any of their abilities.
