[ canon update ]
If you'd like to update your character to a different canon point, fill out the form below and comment to this entry. Please note that characters can only be updated to source material that has been out for at least one month. We will try and process canon updates within 48 hours.
ICly, When your character is on a canon update, they completely disappear from the world. It's almost as if they were removed the game, however there's a key difference. Their amulet will remain and be in a translucent state. Characters will be gone from the game from three days to a week. They will reappear wherever their amulet is and can continue their progress from wherever they left off. They will also retain all of their memories.

Character: Y'shtola
Current Canon Point: Near the end of patch 2.55
Updated Canon Point: Mid-patch 4.4; right after activating the giant control shard at the House of the Crooked Coin
Updated Background:
Heavensward on is new, and the tidbit about battle in Stormblood covers part of what happens after Y'shtola recovers from her injuries enough to continue: she and Thancred help subdue a sneak attack on a diplomatic conference in Ala Mhigo, and then she decides to join you in Doma, investigating the primal summonings there as well as getting the lay of the land as far as what the future may have in store for the Scions and the Eorzean Alliance. She joins the player character and other friends on a trip to the Azim Steppe, up to more investigation of the aether and what might be done to keep back the Empire from retaliating against all these rebellions. In the process she and the Doman head of state (for lack of better fast explanation), Hien, face off in battle against Magnai, who fancies himself the finest warrior on the Steppe.
Y'shtola wins.
After that the party looks into a specific and curious cavern and the large...crystal? Crystalline structure encased there; Y'shtola's aetheric activation of it should allow the surrounding land to reclaim some of its energy, rather than having it siphoned off or otherwise fading. And that is whence she returns to Empatheias!
Updated Personality:
Y'shtola is largely the same as she always was! She tends to say what's on her mind a bit more and with a little less enigmatic speech, and she's much faster about calling you out, but she is equally warmer and less distant. Her time in the aether and all the subsequent threats to herself and her friends has led her to a new appreciation of how precious the gift of time is.
As a consequence she's now more of a blend of Cool Aunt and Team Mom. Freer with knowledge and with stern fussing.
Updated Abilities:
All her same conjurer skills, plus an apparent heightened command of them and of healing magic; she still has the large defensive bubble but can now also use a smaller, localized one (in the palm of her hand, for example) to deflect a single strike rather than for sustained protection. Also, she has...I can only describe it as a mystic arte? A personal limit break (4.4 gif content)? It's called Spiritual Ray. A very powerful light/aether based attack that will bring you low.
Also she can see changes in the aether much more clearly and abundantly and I would like her to also apply this, with practice and time, to emotions and dunamis! Seeing changes in them even if they don't manifest, or concentrations of one or another strong emotion, and maybe using that as well to...er, interpret the world.
She apparently always could do the teleport trick but continues to choose not to exercise that in Empatheias, as there is no conceivable way for her to even guess that someone might survive it.
Other:
SHE GETS THE MOST EPIC STAFF EVER I am so excited for this stick. No more little leafy wand.
Also of note! At one point in 4.4 the cutscene suggests we actually take Y'shtola's perspective as she looks out over a very empty desert. (She's the only character doing this and the camera moves to match her actions just prior, but from first person POV.) It looks surprisingly normal; the presumption I'm going with is that, well, that is indeed how the world looks - pretty damn normal. Just via aether instead of, you know...light and rods and cones and such. (There may be more to it but the area where this happened lacks most aether so if there was any to notice it was minimal at best.)

I suppose the "seeing emotions" thing is a question! Could she interpret the world through dunamis the same way she now does through aether?
