[ complete crystals + regains ]

— COMPLETE CRYSTALS + REGAINS —

Completed crystals have a variety of uses in the game, but there's one particular use that may interest the character: regaining an item from their home world. Thus this page serves two purposes: 1) track how many completed crystals a character can develop during their stay; 2) request regains if conditions are met.

The current Complete Crystals Spreadsheet can be found here.

❖ Crystal Guidelines

For the most part, determining whether a character's crystal is complete is determined by the player. After all, characters develop differently and some will be faster or slower than others. However, we do have at least one rule and some factors you should consider.

» Four Months. Four months is how long it would take for a character's crystal to be considered complete.

» Crystal development. Just a quick reminder that if you need some substantial reasons as to how your character's crystal develops a certain way, various events can hasten or slow development. Additionally, apathy and death can slow development, even set it back due to emotion drop depletion.

» Keep or donate. It is up to the character whether they wish to keep their crystal or donate it to the Arehtei. As crystals can be beneficial in either scenario, there's no actual "better" option. If uncertain, "keep" is considered the default, and it can be donated at a later time.

» Replacement. A reminder that characters do have to replace their crystals, and that can easily be done by visiting the collection centers in the city and requesting one.

» Player Discretion. As mentioned, this is still up to the player. As there is no mandatory tracker to be maintained, you will have to be aware of how your character's crystal is developing and be reasonable about it.

In order to actually consider your character's crystal complete, you must fill out this form. This form will help both you and us see how the character has developed, and it also serves a stop gap to prevent players who might just rush the process.

Player:
Character: Character | [personal profile] journal
Alignment:
Month/Year Joined of Previous Crystal: What month and year did the previous crystal complete/was turned in? If this is the first time, just list the MM/YY of when the character first joined and make a note that this is their first.
Month of Completion: The month the crystal is considered completed. This can be backdated in case you are filling this later.

State: This is asking if the crystal is mostly positive, negative, or neutral. Indicate with one of the following symbols: +, -, |.
Development Report: We really only want a general summary (no more than 250 words) of how the character has developed.
Donated or Keep? Indicate whether the character is giving their crystal to the Arehtei or keeping it. Choose "keep" if uncertain. You can change this at any time.
Questions: Any questions you might have.

All submissions will be automatically added to the spreadsheet. Characters can already assume their crystals are completed ICly.

❖ Regains Guidelines

For those who choose to their keep their crystals to eventually be used for regains, here are a few things you as a player should know ahead of time. Most of these mechanics will also be known to the characters.

» 1 crystal = 1 item. We're using a simple 1:1 transaction. It doesn't matter what the state of the crystal is, it just has to be complete to be used.

» 2+ crystals for more powerful and larger items. If the desired item is large like a vehicle or is a powerful object like a weapon then it will require at least two crystals.

» Item must belong to the character. Because the crystals have personal ties to the character, you can only regain an item that the character actually owns. They cannot regain an item that now belongs to someone else, and they cannot gain something from the future. The item has to be present on or near the character within the last six months before arriving in Empatheias, and in current ownership. This also means that a character cannot regain something for a friend.

» "Group" regains. One exception to the above rule is it is possible to pool crystals together for a shared item. Ownership rules still apply, so it must belong to those involved. So if there's a considerably large or powerful item that a cast may like as a whole, rather than wait for one person to develop multiple crystals to meet requirements, they can contribute theirs for the item.

» Items must be "portable." Basically the item must be able to move somehow. So unless it's an RV, no houses or buildings can be brought in.

» Standard nerfs apply. All regain items will conform to fit the setting as if they had been brought in through the initial application. Thus super large objects will still need to be downsized to reasonable size and any gamebreaking powerful objects will need to be nerfed to also be reasonable.

» Mod discretion. We do have discretion as to whether an item can actually be regained or not, and some items may be a case-by-case type. Thus you will need our approval before you can proceed ICly.

» Schedule with aligned Arehtei. After approved, you will need to set up an "appointment" with the character's aligned Arehtei on the scheduler. If it's a group, you'll need all involved Arehtei. At that point we can either thread it out or just hash out the details and be effectively handwaved.

» Disappears on use and no returns. Finally, all crystals used in the regain will be "consumed" upon use. This also means that regains are final and cannot be sent back. So if you decide to bring the plague upon the game...better hope there's a way to deal with it or a new plot development will be born.

And of course, we have a form for submissions. To also keep things organized, we are keeping regains in one place with this subthread, so please comment there. The form is also in the subthread, but here is how it will look like.

Player:
Character: Character | [personal profile] journal
Alignment:
Date of Regain: The IC date of when the regain will occur.
Crystal link(s): You will need to have completed the crystal form first, so link us to the particular crystal you'd like to use. NOTE: this crystal will be marked as use and cannot be used for any other purpose.
Regained Item: Description of the desired item.
Notes: If there are any nerfs that are to be applied, list them out here.
Questions: Any questions you might have.

The original Completed Crystals page is found here for those who need it!

❖ Questions

If you have any general questions about either of the processes that you'd like to ask prior to submitting the forms, feel free to ask them here.

My question is kind of a two-parter with the first being if the Normin would count as something for the Zestiria crew to regain? Aside from brief scenes with two of them (Atakk and Phoenix), they aren't really characters in their own right and serve as more of a gameplay mechanic to augment the party's equipment.

The other thing I was wondering about was if it would be possible for anything regained from the Zestiria world to bring Malevolence with it or if it could develop on its own in Empatheias as a means to initiate a couple player plots in the future. (With mod permission, of course.)

How large would something need to be to need two crystals?

How about an Eopie? Everything Obi-Wan literally owns is on this back of this thing. Minus the baby of course.

Here is a better idea of their size compared to people. They're essentially a small camelid type creature with a short trunk.

Quick question on my end - also contains spoilers for SDR2/SDR2.5/DR3, so I'll be putting it under a spoiler tag:

Specifically in Super Dangan Ronpa 2.5, it is shown that Hinata has created an AI of himself in order to bring back Komaeda from his coma in the Neo World Program; it's never explicitly stated what happened to it afterward. The AI itself doesn't have enough personality to be considered applicable as a character due to the limited screentime he has, plus he has similar personality traits that Hinata has as both Kamukura and himself, but heavily leaning towards Kamukura. Would it be possible for Hinata to regain the AI - permissibly as a flash drive, which is most likely how he also brought in the Enoshima AI. If not, that's totally okay, too!

Hello mods! A little question for you: how much headcanon is accepted for items? Are implied things ok?

If you need the full story: Bianca explicitly uses Fly in game (hell, she even gives the HM both times) but none of her canon team members can learn it. So I usually headcanon she has a Flying-type she uses to explore - he isn't strong or anything, can hardly battle, he's just a support mon. Would it be acceptable to ask for him?

Can items that we can deduce a character owns be regained? In one of Nobita's movies, he hatches a wind creature named Fuuko from an egg, and creates a "disguise" for her to make her look like a stuffed animal. At the end of the movie, Fuuko sacrifices herself to stop the villain, leaving behind the disguise. It doesn't show up later, but could I have him regain the disguise now stuffed as an actual stuffed animal, since I believe he'd want to keep a memorial of her?

Well, guess I might as well ask now...

Would it be possible to regain Anakin's R2-unit? (that rolling, beeping garbage can...) It technically is considered an item in canon (even though he prefers to treat it like a person) and is pretty much the only thing he owns in a way (Jedi problems...)

Artoo also is technically Anakin's wedding ring, because if you can't afford actual rings, you exchange droids.....

What would the number of crystals needed be for something like a keepsake box of letters? Would that be small/insignificant enough to need one crystal, or would it need more/need to be broken down by letter? Noting that they do have great sentimental value, if that has any bearing on it.

Asking more out of idle curiosity than any solid plan to do something with this information and I forget if this particular sort of edge case came up when regains were first suggested, but does "in current ownership" also imply "in current possession"?

Like, say, theoretically, I was playing a character who was exploring a distant moon when he was kidnapped by aliens, and consequently any possessions he would've had with him but not on him were presumably just kind of. Left there. On the moon. Unclaimed by anyone else since. So, like, they're still technically his, right? He just doesn't actually have them. Would such items be regainable?

(If it makes a difference, if I gave him anything from these circumstances, it'd be something small and sentimental. A digital camera with some pictures/video, probably.)

Hi! I'm an idiot!

I forgot about the six-month auto for Sheena's crystal, and well...she's been here for over a year.

So, I'm not sure what I should do for this, since technically, she'd be going for her third crystal right now.

[personal profile] thatgoodnight 2017-05-30 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Would it be possible to regain Carbuncle? Carby does have an independent personality and is a character in its own right, but outside of dreams and tutorials, it mostly just operates as a game mechanic, preventing Noctis from dying in in easy mode and otherwise just stalking turning up in photographs, presumably just watching over him. If regained, it'd wind up being kind of like a pokemon or a normin, albeit one that communicates with chirps, yips and telepathic texting complete with cute emotes.

Out of curiosity, is there a chance that Shinjiro can have Koromaru as a regain? Technically speaking someone could app him and play him, given he's a fairly important member of SEES, and is smarter than the average canine (to the point where he even has a favorite TV show), but he falls well in line with being something of a sidekick character.

That and he's also got a persona as well! So I can understand if not, but kind of laughing at the idea of Shinji asking for a weapon and ending up with his lil buddy instead.

Hi! Just putting feelers out there for future ref since I see other piloty-type things in here.

Dio has a vanship-- not a battleship or anything, it's a smaller, two-seater airship that can zip around pretty fast. Here's an image for ref! Would he be able to regain this?

Hey there! I'm considering requesting for Steven to regain his Lion, so I just wanted to clear some things up first!

-Would Lion require one crystal or more?
-Also in terms of nerfing powers, Lion noticeably has the ability to create portals that he jumps through, and he also has a pocket dimension connected to his mane. I'm considering keeping both, but limiting the range of his portals (perhaps to just a few blocks of the town at a time?) and keeping the pocket dimension cut off from any of its other exits. Would those be acceptable, or would I have to nerf things further? Please let me know what works best for you, thank you!

So, I got a pretty embarrassing question about crystal completions... I haven't made a new one since 2016, according to the Google doc. I'll be perfectly honest, I kind of lost interest in crystal completions when it moved more towards regains...although that doesn't excuse me for slacking on it for so long.

Anyway instead of trying to count how many I should have completed by now with the 6 month auto - and where Emizel emotional state was at at those times - I was wondering if I could just finish off the one he has right now and start fresh, and just pretend he was not carrying it for like 1.5-2 years.

It will be a loooong time before this comes up but just in case it does come up and just in case there are characters in similarly bizarre positions:

What about items that once belonged to someone but were passed on for holding to a crime syndicate or other organization that, likely, is now the true official owner?

In James's example pretty much every Pokemon he's owned and hasn't released into the wild is now housed at Team Rocket Headquarters as part of the TR arsenal but he still has a strong emotional tie to them. Normally, he'd be able to request them back but at his current canon point he cannot as his superiors have asked him to only use a native team to avoid drawing attention to himself.

Basically: His Pokemon now belong to a global syndicate, not a person. Normally protocol dictates that he can request them back but Team Rocket can decide to deny that request or pass his Pokemon off to other agents as they wish.

(Whether or not they were physically on James's person within the last 6 months is debatable because of Pokemon's notorious hanging timeline but I'm guessing that finding a logical way of dealing with that is up to player discretion?)

Anyway, if James's former partners are considered Team Rocket property now then he can never get a Pokemon as a regain. Which I am fine with! It's just a good thing to know.

Bit of an odd question, pertaining more to like... trying to get a jump on the future consequences of the Arehtei thread than anything else (Lelouch will attempt to do the thing even if it won't work), but is it possible for a character to cash in their crystal in someone else's name?

The short version is that Lelouch knows he can't go home (he'd just... die), and ICly suspects that turning in crystals might be connected to getting to go home, so he'd like to submit his crystal "for" Suzaku, to increase Suzaku's theoretical tally of completed crystals, rather than his own.

Thanks in advance! ♥

I was wondering if I eventually could request something that has been with Zamasu a couple of thousands years ago instead of those six months. The reason is that he does not have any possessions at all from the canon point I've taken him from. Like, none.

The only 'possession' he had was a flying pig that was under his care when he was still a North Kai and that really is the only thing/creature that might've been close to him before he became a total shitheel. .

Is it possible to make an exception for this. For instance: that it will cost more crystals?

I just want him to be a total shitheel with a flying pig trailing him around. It would look wonderful.

Purely hypothetically speaking...if allowed, how many completed crystals would it take to regain a mystical homeworld artifact like the Relic of Knowledge and what kind of power limitations would it have (besides anything obviously game-breaking of course)?

So far as "ownership" or "being on their person" goes, does it count if the person was just holding it like 10 minutes before their current canon point and/or can it count if a group is collectively protecting it or moving it? Or can it only be regained by the person who has been in contact with it the most/most recently?

Hello!! I have a question or two about a regain I'm interested in.

So with Keith's planned canon update, I want to also have him regain his pet space wolf that he ends up with by that canon point. The space wolf has a number of abilities and concerns I want to go over before I formally submit for him to make sure everything is good.

1. The point I plan to bring him in he's about this big. However, a year later he is. uh. He's this big. If he's allowed to get this big I would definitely have him stop growing after that, but I wanted to know if there's any nerfing that needs to be done for his size or will Keith get to ride around on him like Princess Mononoke through the streets of Verens because that would be great.

2. He can teleport. His limits aren't officially stated, but he can easily port between the lions cockpits while they are traveling through space like it's literally nothing. THIS I know will need some regulation, so i'd like to know what he'd be restricted to.

3. How many crystals will he cost?
