[ application: original characters ]

— APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN AND WILL BE PROCESSED ON WEEKENDS —

Canon Applications are here

IMPORTANT! We are officially in endgame until August 31, 2020. Applications are on a rolling basis. There is a small "block" period from the 1st through the 4th of every month to allow a bulk of apps to be submitted, and then applications can be submitted at any time during the month. Notices will be sent out all at once after the first "block" period, and then between 24 hours to the end of the weekend depending on how many and our schedule. Applications are guaranteed to be processed during the weekends.

IMPORTANT: Only the following types of original characters are allowed to be applied for—

  • Pure OC. These are the typical kind of OC that everyone is familiar with. They are characters that are the player's own creation with their own world that is also of the player's design. There is zero relation to any pre-existing canon.

  • MMO OC. MMOs, or Massively Multiplayer Online games, particularly those with a lot of roleplay and character build-up, have existing world building and lore that they have to follow. These characters are created by the player and can have their own story, but they have to follow the rules of the game lore. We consider "main hero" characters as those who are one of many in a great group that influenced the storyline, rather than the singular Great Hero character. This is to help multiple MMO OCs from the same game to have stories that mesh well together. In the sake of fairness to current FFXIV OC players and consistency with previous mod teams' decisions, we do not currently allow FFXIV Warriors of Light.

  • Blank Slate Canon Protagonists. For our criteria, these types of characters are those which you control throughout the game and essentially make the player the main character. They may have a name and a couple of personality traits, but everything else is up to the player to interpret. Examples of these are most of the main characters from Dragon Age, Skyrim, Pokémon, etc. Important: Please note that this category ONLY pertains to the protagonists of canons. This does not allow side characters or other support NPCs as they have set stories and personalities. This section has nothing to do with how much headcanon is used and is only about the purpose and design of the protagonist character.

The following would not be allowed:

  • Fanon/AU OCs. Characters that are based off pre-existing canons or an alternate version of the canon. We would not allow these OCs not because we are against them on principle, but it could cause unwanted confusion and complications with current existing casts. This type of OC would have needed to be allowed from the very beginning so players would know what they were getting into.

  • Game Native OCs. Currently the game is not ready for such a type of character, as it would introduce other complications and worldbuilding that the interested player would have to be aware of. In addition, it would require more close connection with us the mods than we are currently ready for.

Before applying, please be sure to read the following:

  • Read the Rules and the Game Information.
  • RETURNING PLAYERS! You only need to submit any old application. Does not matter how long ago, as long as it was accepted and you have good standing (ie, not banned), it will be valid.
  • Suggestion: Find some character sheets that have questions directly related to character building. These will help flesh out your application and give some guidelines as to how to write about your character.
  • Feel free to use the most recent test drive both for practice as well as to use for samples. IMPORTANT! If you submit threads as samples, you must submit the application with that character journal. This is the only way we can ensure that the samples are from you and not someone else.
  • Linked samples must have been made within the past year.
  • You may apply for up to two characters per cycle.
  • Do not plagiarize. If we find that the information provided was directly taken by either another player or some other source material, the application will be rejected immediately. If we find this after processing the application, we will revoke the application and have you removed from the game with potential ban.
  • Reusing your own applications from other games is allowed. We only ask any original written samples to conform to our game. That is, we don't want to read samples that are set specifically for another game's premise. Note: this does not apply to threads linked from other games used as samples.
  • If you are rejected, you cannot reapply for the same character for two weeks. However, you can apply for a different character in that same period.
  • Those accepted must fill out all of the required entries within a week to be considered part of the game. Otherwise, we will consider it a revocation of the application.
  • Fill out the form and comment to this entry! All applications must be posted directly to this entry; no linked-in applications allowed.

We have compiled sample applications from our players to show what the mod team and the application moderators are looking for in terms of writing quality and depth. We hope you find these samples useful!

Age: You must be at least 13 years old to apply.
Current Characters: If a new player, just put "N/A"

⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character:
Age:
OC Type: Indicate whether this OC is a Pure, MMO, or Blank Protagonist type of OC. If it is a Blank Protagonist, indicate the canon here.
Point Taken: A sense of time when the character is taken. More applicable to MMO and Blank Protagonist OCs.

World Building:This is separate from the character's personal history. This section is to provide us with information about the character's “canon” in general. We will have no idea what kind of world that the character is coming from, and this is the only place we can learn about it. We don't want an encyclopedia, but we will need to know important details about it so that we can understand the culture the character is coming from and how that will affect how they think and behave. What countries are important? What kind of geography or political climate? Are there any social conflicts that would impact the character or would influence how they view others? For MMO and Blank Protagonist OCs, linking us to wikis will suffice, but feel free to add more to it.

Backstory: While we don't need a play-by-play, what we would like to see includes how the character lived, what choices they've made and why, what events occurred that developed them, and other important facts that will help us understand the character. For MMO OCs: Most MMORPGs will have a set storyline that the player character has the opportunity to play through. Keep in mind that rather there being a singular "Great Hero," all MMO OCs are to be seen as a part of a large group of heroes if you choose to follow the main storyline. Also keep in mind that all MMO OCs will have to follow their game’s canon lore. For example: A character could not save the NPC that canonly died, nor could a mission fail if it is set to succeed. However, your character could have died and or had difficulty fulfilling the mission. It is also possible that your character had no part in the overall game's story and had their own adventures in the world instead. Finally, there can be no romantic or familial relationships with named NPCs.

Personality: We're looking for how they think, why they act the way they do, their strengths, their weaknesses, their thought processes, their opinions, their conflicts, what makes them feel the way they do, their significant traits. When writing your character, be careful! We want to avoid characters that are the super invincible almighty hero that can do no wrong. The one who can charm anyone with a smile, can easily trick and deceive, has the power to bend wills with ease. All characters have flaws—no one is perfect. But more importantly, such infallible characters are not interesting to play and interact with. In short, the character should be realistic, balanced, and well thought out. If we feel that your character does not meet this standard, then we may ask for a revision or reject if it cannot be changed.

Abilities: If there are any particular abilities the character has supernatural or otherwise, list them here. Referencing to a wiki list is acceptable if applicable. However, if there are any particular abilities that need to be weakened or removed, note them here.

Alignment: Please refer to the Alignment entry to choose which alignment your character would most likely fall under. Include a brief (a couple of sentences max) just to help explain why you think your choice is the best fit.

Other: Anything else you'd like to mention.

⌈ SAMPLE SECTION ⌉

Sample: We have two sample requirements.

General Sample: We should see examples of the character's dialogue as well as some introspection or additional narrative to further show how you intend to write the character. This is the most important part of the sample and where most of the weight will be.

Emotion Sample: This is our "game setting" requirement. Essentially we want to ensure that you have a basic grasp of the game's premise, especially with the use of emotions. It can be a small scene, even incidental to the main sample. A reminder that apathetic characters will also create effects, such as loss of color, surface distortion, holes forming. This section doesn't have to be lengthy, but the effect must be clear for us to see.

The emotion sample can be part of the general character sample. If so, please link directly or directly quote that portion so that it's easier for us to quickly find it.

The samples can be "written" in three different ways and you can choose which one will work best for you:

  1. Test Drive. You can utilize our test drive to cover both requirements of the sample. So long as there is enough character portrayal and a scene with an emotional reaction, be it within the prompt or done during the thread, then it can be used for both.
  2. Link out + Written. You can link to threads/entries from other games, memes, or museboxes to show character portrayal, and then write an additional short scene for the emotion portion of the sample.
  3. Original Sample. You can write a complete sample that shows both character portrayal and a scene involving emotion use. This can be one sample or two separate samples. If you opt to write an original sample, you are welcome to use any prompts from any of our Test Drives, Intro Logs, Task Board, and even past events. You are also free to change things up and are not restricted to any of these prompts. They are just here to help offer ideas.

Format wise, you can use either [ brackets ] OR narrative prose. We do require that the writing at least be coherent, have proper sentence structure, and is mostly grammatically correct (we realize that writing styles can be loose/creative in [ bracket ] form so we're giving a bit more leeway). One last suggestion we have is try to have the character interacting with the environment and try thinking of the sample less of a narrative piece but more like a post or thread prompt you might make in the game. That will help the sample show not only how you will write the character, but also how you will play them in practice.

Questions: If you have any questions, ask them here.

⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character: Roxanne Monroe
Age: 20 years old
OC Type: Pure OC
Point Taken: Eight months after being rescued, prior to meeting Sofia Sinclair.

World Building:
Roxanne exists in a universe that mirrors Earth, only set in the near future but with more advanced technology mixing with what's more familiar. It's a world that's still transitioning to a sleek, utopian future more commonly seen in science fiction movies. Her world faces similar issues to the real world and similar names and concepts (websites like Facebook, Youtube, and Google for example), with different fictional franchises, brand names, famous people, (although some still exist like Nike, Adidas, and many Hollywood names) and even alternate histories. Roxanne and the people of Earth are still unaware of the existence of other universes that's being monitored by a non-governmental society, who secretly use and carefully integrate the knowledge they gather from these other worlds to improve Earth's current science and technology. Roxanne and her friends only caught a glimpse of the entire conspiracy, with their magical abilities (called Resonance) unlocked and used in their vigilante war against similarly powered criminals who also take advantage of the other worlds.

Roxanne and her friends face against an international crime group with many names, such as Saint Slayers or the Farano mafia (different and unassociated with the non-governmental society called the Spiral Consortium) who deals in trafficking aliens who accidentally find themselves in Earth, being sold in the underground market. Mythical creatures like mermaids, centaurs, and elves for example are being kidnapped by this group. The police are always out of their depth due to being kept in the dark by the existence of the supernatural, which is where Roxanne and her group come in to help liberate these captured entities and help them find their way home. Later on getting the attention of the Spiral Consortium, Roxanne and her friends become an auxiliary team with the support and backing of the Consortium.

Backstory:
Roxanne is the single child of two successful parents in Montreal, Canada. When she was young, Roxanne was popular in school and enjoyed playing basketball but her story took a sad turn when her parents started fighting more and realizing how incompatible they truly were. Her parents divorced, and Roxanne fell into depression where she stopped playing basketball and turned to video games and comics as a method of escape. Her mother remarried a year later to a single father who also had a single child: his daughter Monica. Monica and Roxanne connected easily, with the former looking up to Roxanne as an elder figure despite being the same age and Roxanne actually being younger. But Roxanne showed more maturity, letting Monica in on her hobby of video games, comic books, and superhero movies and used it to bond for years. Although things start taking a turn with Monica overtaking Roxanne as the more popular girl in class due to Monica's friendliness. While Roxanne didn't hold any envy or resentment, it made her be the more dependent one of the pair and drove Roxanne deeper into being reclusive, focusing on her studies to pursue a new dream and love for history and archaeology, limiting her socializing and even gradually losing her interest in the same things she and Monica bonded over.

Still, their bond remained solid throughout the years that they consider each other as real sisters. They graduate high school at the same time and decided to move to Los Angeles, California where Roxanne got a scholarship at UCLA thanks to her excellent grades. Their dreams were shaken by the harsh reality of living outside of their well-off parents' guidance. Monica had to drop out of college to work multiple part-time jobs, while Roxanne struggled to keep her good academic performance while juggling part-time jobs of her own, and she couldn't really get invested in them. They endured even with existential dread for their own futures looming over their heads, finding solace in each other and trying out a new outlet for them to express themselves. Where Monica took to acting, Roxanne used her world's most famous video-sharing website to share her videos. Being an avid gamer with great skills, Roxanne was on the right track to finding fame through this medium that she started occasionally rewarding herself with some self-indulgent shopping whenever she gets more subscribers.

But life tossed another surprise at Roxanne, with her sister confiding in her in how she gained superhuman abilities much like the heroes in the comics they love. All through an app in her phone. Excited, confused, worried, and even a little jealous; Roxanne supported her sister's quest in becoming a superhero in Los Angeles at the same time the news have been spreading about the rising numbers of superhumans in the world. This fact was covered up by the Spiral Consortium influencing world governments from the shadows, saying these reports are exaggerated and were caused by advanced technology that were illegally stolen and distributed to the public, all in the effort to protect the fact of magic's existence. Roxanne's focus in assisting her sister made her want to be a hero like her, too. And it seems her wish was answered one day when she bought some accessories online for herself, not knowing that this bracelet with seven different jewels was magical in nature.

Once worn, the jewels resonated with Roxanne's natural potential although she didn't notice it. Her days went on like normal, but soon found herself being stalked offline by mob men. On the day her sister was out performing heroics, Roxanne was kidnapped from their home by members of the Farano mafia. They took her far from Los Angeles and into Chicago. They planted and blamed Roxanne for "stealing" something the jeweled bracelet from them, and in exchange for her "theft" and her's and her sister's lives to be spared, Roxanne had to become a pawn for the Faranos. Being taught in the use of her magic (called Resonance in this universe) gems by nobody but the Farano boss herself, Vera Farano, Roxanne became a superhuman in her own right only to be commanded to fight against other superhumans. Shipped off to Japan where the Faranos are having trouble gaining proper footing thanks to local superhuman heroes Mariko Ishiwatari and Shoji Nakamori, who Roxanne were forced to duel with on multiple occasions alongside other superhumans being blackmailed/hired by the Faranos.

By sheer coincidence, Monica and Shoji happen to be friends online. His mention of his encounter with Roxanne pinged Monica and wanted to rescue her sister. Promising to bring her back, Shoji and Mariko delivered and defeated Roxanne and promised to protect her from the Faranos and bring her back to Los Angeles. Mariko's massive wealth have helped in ensuring her and Monica's safety from then on. But with what Roxanne have witnessed under the Farano's influence, she couldn't feel at ease going back to a normal life as a college student or even an online personality. Wanting to be useful and be by her sister's side, Roxanne asked to become a part of Mariko's team of superheroes and use her powers for good and to find out the mystery of how she got to become the jewels' wielder, what really is the Farano group's true nature beyond their veneer of being a mafia group, and how she and the rest of the team are linked to this mysterious entity called The Grey Man.

Later on in their careers as amateur superheroes, Roxanne and the group have encountered an agent of the Spiral Consortium named Sofia Sinclair. They have all been watched from the start but was mostly left alone as they were regarded as a minor threat, and how the Spiral Consortium is busy with external threats from space and in other universes. With Sofia being impressed with their teamwork and tenacity, the team of young heroes become inducted into the Consortium as an auxiliary team focused on their same goals of taking down the Faranos on Earth but backed by the Consortium's technology built in dealing against supernatural threats.

Personality:
Simply put, Roxanne is a shy individual with the disposition to match. She appears quiet and sleepy all the time. She is introverted but very observant and analytical; and can even be described as someone who "thinks too much". Roxanne is mature for the most part, although she still has some immature tendencies such as having a silly sense of humor, being a little vain, and overly protective of her material possessions in her various collections (mainly her shoes). She often shies away from big social events unless she has a good reason to, often taking to the sidelines as an observer rather than a participant since she finds it exhausting to be talking to strangers for too long. She can be easily intimidated by people with strong personalities or rough exteriors, but also is quick to admire and have crushes on others who manage to connect well with her. All of this leads to Roxanne being a lonely individual, who is both aware of her flaws but lacks the courage to change herself as she struggles from self-esteem issues.

Regardless, Roxanne is lively on the inside. This part of her is revealed more when she's communicating through text messages, talking about things she's passionate about, or to those whose company she has grown accustomed to. She can be silly and a bit of a prankster around her friends, and sometimes shows a sharp-tongued wit or a subtle occasionally crude or self-deprecating sense of humor. Roxanne has a hidden but great amount of courage and an immense capacity for love beneath her indifferent and anxious shell, with the former unlocked later on when she realizes how much her life has changed upon acquiring superpowers, making Roxanne a significantly braver person who will go great lengths and fight for her friends and strangers alike. While her ability to love shows itself in how supportive she is of others' goals and pursuits, even to strangers. She thinks that helping others is a way for her to feel fulfilled, for she finds her life to feel hollow until later on when she found a purpose as a superhuman hero. She is often even willing to spare a big chunk of her personal time for someone if it means helping them or making them happy. As the sister of a fellow superpowered indivudual, Roxanne have assumed the role as the more responsible sibling of the two and often reins her sister Monica's impulsive behavior and acts as their team's voice of reason, especially when she gets over her fear of confrontation and learns to value her opinion more.

Roxanne fits the typical "nerd" archetype. She has an intense love for video games, movies, TV shows, and comic books and managed to even influence her sister in becoming as much of a fan of these mediums as her. And if anything can get Roxanne talking or even show confidence, it's through her knowledge in these things. Especially when it comes to video games. Roxanne's competitive side even shows when it comes to video games, with her sister and friends even warning not to challenge Roxanne in a video game match, speaking of how skilled she is at many titles. She is academically brilliant with interest in unorthodox subjects such as archaeology and technology. She's a quick-learner and notices details most people tend to miss. Being well-read but isolated, Roxanne has developed a slightly cynical view of the world that she keeps mostly to herself. While not a jealous person, Roxanne does feel envy to others who have their lives figured out or to people who are comfortable with themselves in general. But that envy is quick to form into admiration, which Roxanne later learns to channel into inspiration to better herself with.

Apart from video games, which she's good enough to compete with other people online, Roxanne is an avid fan of history and has an encyclopedic knowledge of many historical topics. She is also into fashion, particularly casual street fashions and sneakers. The latter which she has a growing collection of. She's into assembling computers and puzzles, so much that she likes assembling furniture and building things out of Lego bricks. She's good at giving massages, making costumes for cosplay, and cooking/baking despite being only self-taught from tutorial videos.

Roxanne Monroe | OC - Part 2

[personal profile] juvel 2019-02-02 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Abilities: Roxanne's supernatural abilities come from a inconspicuous jeweled bracelet, with seven different colored gems that provide a different ability once mentally activated, also heightening Roxanne's physical attributes on a superhuman level. Roxanne limits the use of the gems to at least one or two at the time. Using more than two tends to be exhausting to her. Each gem allows:
  • Red: Creates a pair of crystalline tonfas that can be used for melee combat or a gun that fires crystalline shards with a limited homing and explosive ability that could be lethal on an anti-personnel level. The projectiles are visible with a low rate of fire for an automatic weapon, so it can still be dodged or intercepted by those with superhuman reflexes and speed. It also is only effective for close-quarters and fires 30 rounds each before taking a couple of seconds to cool down so it can be fired again. Roxanne can avoid this by controlling her shots by firing in short bursts. The tonfas are only as effective as Roxanne, which isn't much given her lack of actual weapon skill and combat experience. She is skilled in it's use against regular enemies, but she struggles and stays on the defensive against significantly skilled or powerful opponents.
  • Blue: Creates energy barriers with a crystalline appearance. It can absorb energy to be redistributed to Roxanne or her allies, deflect attacks back at her opponents, or isolate an opponent within the barrier. She can move the barrier mentally and throw it at her opponents.
  • Yellow: Allows Roxanne to fly and hover at great speed, and is often used in tandem with her Red gem to make her faster and harder to hit, allowing Roxanne to compensate with her lack of raw strength, size, and skill by being harder to hit. Roxanne moves easier at this state, allowing her to perform acrobatic movements and mimic basketball and ice-skating maneuvers to create angles and circle around her opponents.
  • Green: Allows Roxanne to heal physical wounds by reversing the event that caused it and bring the cells and tissue back to the their healthiest state. This can also help with emotional wounds, allowing Roxanne to provide a temporary balm to the target by altering their hormones back to their best state. The Green gem is basically localized time magic, but it can't turn back time. This ability is Roxanne's greatest, and is strong enough to reverse the curse of a mythological spear (Gáe Dearg) famous for it's ability to inflict wounds that cannot be healed even by magical means.
  • Orange: A temporary "de-buff" ability, that significantly lowers a target's physical stats, making this effective against more physical opponents. Those who rely on projectiles or offensive magic wouldn't be too affected by this apart from lower energy levels.
  • Violet: The opposite of the Orange gem that temporarily amplifies a target's physical stats, enough to make a normal human go toe-to-toe against superhuman opponents as long as the effect is in play. Those who use magic can also feel their spells increase in power if buffed by the Violet gem.
  • Black/White: A mysterious gem with both black and white colors. Roxanne uses this gem to see through illusions, allowing herself and her allies to not be fooled.

Alignment: Thras. She's easily consumed by her fear and anxiety.

Other: Roxanne will be sharing a PB with another player's character. We have an OOC agreement to it and an IC reason as well.

    ⌈ SAMPLE SECTION ⌉

Remember that we ask for samples that show 1) core character portrayal and 2) some use of emotions, such as environmental effect. You can also use the same sample source for both, just make sure to directly link or quote the emotion portion. We highly encourage using the Test Drive, and you can use prompts from the Test Drives, Intro Logs, and the Task board if you need them. Refer to the main application page for links and more suggestions.

General Sample: February Test Drive Starter

    Emotion Sample:
    Everything was moving too fast...

Even with her hearing dulled by the headphones over her ears, and her sight dimmed by the shade of her hood and the darkening lenses of her glasses.

    Everything was moving too fast.

Her breath, her heartbeat, the rhythym of her music playing; all of it matched the way the world around her go by, seeing it now when she gained the courage to look up to the sidewalk around her. Like a timelapse video, Roxanne's perception of the world - this world - was becoming overwhelming. She feels a weight in her chest grow heavier with every beat against her ribs, and the faces of every pedestrian get blurrier as she stood in the middle of a crowded plaza. She feels alone as the colors fade and sounds of chatter continue to overlap.

"Monica..." she pleads, overwhelmed with terror as she found herself in an unknown world with nobody she knows. Soon, even breathing and standing became difficult as she feels tears rise from the wells of her eyes, curling down to a ball with her arms pressing against her headphones.

Then comes a familiar melody, eliciting a gasp and wide-eyed surprise from Roxanne. Her ears were graced by a song she's long forgotten, playing in her headphones like a caring whisper. It went against the overwhelming tide of time with it's upbeat tune and happy lyrics. Memories in her mind sneak their way in Roxanne's perception of reality, bringing color back to the world. Pinks of the flower petals in the shrubs rippled to color the world, slowing down the flow of time in Roxanne's mind as the song continues to play. She blinks as if to understand what is occurring, glancing down on her smartphone to see the name of the song. A happy memory flooded her mind to wash away her fears, finally making Roxanne feel a warm tear flow down her face from heartwarming joy instead of the terror she felt moments ago.

"Thanks, sis" she utters to herself, wiping the screen of her phone. It was the song her sister Monica listened to on repeat when they first moved away from home, starting a new life together. It was the time where Roxanne took a leap of faith for herself, reminding her of the courage that lied within her heart. Monica's words of encouragement echoed in her mind as she stood up, wiping the tears on her cheek with the sleeve of her hoodie.

Strangers soon approached Roxanne, with concern etched on their faces as they ask the newcomer what was wrong. Touched by their kindness, the same kindness that she remembers her sister shows to her during trying times, Roxanne manages to show a weak smile and respond to the worried and hospitable citizens of Verens. She's okay. That's what Roxanne said. Even with a simple answer, though, she meant it on a deeper level as well. It was thanks to her sister's memory that Roxanne finds the courage to take that step forward and accept her situation. With that in mind, she definitely will be okay.

    ⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

    Character: Celdori Brightreaver
    Age: 23
OC Type: MMO OC: World of Warcraft
Point Taken: Battle for Azaroth 8.0 — post most patch storylines.

    World Building:
Here is a link but, uh, a summary is most likely called for. World of Warcraft is an online MMO that (generally) takes place on a planet called Azaroth. While when all the nonsense in this universe started is a point generally up for debate, the most important things to know are this: Azaroth is, in effect, a sleeping god. Forces of the Void have attempted to corrupt her in the past, and that's bad. Another god decided that this would be bad, and then went evil and has attempted to send his demon army after Azaroth for at least ten thousand years. His name is Sargeras, and his army is called the Burning Legion. And he has a hard-on for destroying Azaroth and everything that lives on it.

This has ended up going badly in a few ways. For the sake of brevity and for understanding Celdori, the two ways most influential are the opening of a portal between Azaroth and a world called Draenor that allowed orcs to come to Azaroth, and the creation of something called the Lich King — an undead commander of a zombie horde.

The first results in — after several wars and the second attempted invasion by the Legion — the formation of the Horde. It's a group of races that have been the outcasts of Azaroth up until that point, consisting of trolls, orcs, tauren, and undead who'd managed to shake off the shackles of the Lich King. Several other races would join over time, most notably the goblins and the blood elves. The Horde stands as a counterpoint to the human-led Alliance, and they fight a lot when there's nothing to band them together against a common enemy. Hence "World of Warcraft."

The second — the Lich King — is a little more personal. Once a human man, Prince Arthas grabbed a shiny sword named Frostmourne and then proceeded to become the Lich King: in charge of undeath and frost and a lot of other really bad stuff. He then proceeded to destroy his own kingdom and then moves onto the kingdom of the high elves and proceeds to kill ninety percent of the population off. After their prince renames them blood elves, he goes off to learn about using fel magic (a magic connected to the Burning Legion) to replace the addiction to a magical well called the Sunwell — something that was destroyed by the Lich King.

Azaroth is a mix between high fantasy, some weird elements of science fiction (one faction crashes a spaceship into Azaroth), and all around needing there to be some sort of huge conflict every few years in order to provide content for players. And side quests. Lots of side quests.

    Backstory:
I've gone with a mix of in-game storylines for the player character and crushing mediocracy to create some semblance of a reasonable background for Celdori. It's just as excessive at points as one might think coming from an MMO, however, and please feel free to ask me to tone some of it down.

Celdori Brightreaver was born to a uncharacteristically large family for the high elves of Silvermoon — she had two older siblings and one younger; although it must be said that the older members of her family were well into their first hundred years of age before she was ever born. All was well and good until a horde of undead swarmed Silvermoon, and Celdori lost her entire family within the space of half a week. Pure luck saved her from meeting the same fate of about ninety percent of her people, but not the mana addiction that took the place of drawing natural magic from a thing called the Sunwell.

Alone and angry, Celdori quickly decided to follow the prince of the high elves and become a blood elf — renaming herself in memory of those they lost. Sometime after, still frighteningly young for her race, she joined up with a group called the Blood Knights and began using a sentient being to power themselves with the Light — the be-all end-all holy power of Azaroth. Of course, joining the Blood Knights by lying about your age comes with consequences, and she was quickly taken under the wing of another member of the paladin order who helped her mellow out and let go of her anger and hate.

Eventually the Sunwell was restored to a clean state, and Celdori began using the Light in ways that didn't involve abusing a sentient being. With the change, she'd matured enough to start approaching the world in a different way — one where she swore to be a more positive force. While her mentor kept her away from most dangerous situations, Celdori helped in the campaign against the man who controlled the zombie horde that destroyed her home before returning to a more simple lifestyle. Like going to an alternate universe version of a planet, but in the past.

Her life changed far more rapidly with the third invasion of a demon army called the Burning Legion. Called to join a reformed Order of the Silver Hand with the other champions of Azaroth, Celdori managed to be entrusted with a powerful artifact named Ashbringer. She fights demons, helps turn back the Legion, and then breaks the all-powerful, lore important sword into shards. It's fine, though, she can still use it. Sort of.

After bonding with members of the Alliance and banding together to fight perhaps the biggest threat to Azaroth, things start to devolve for Celdori — the Alliance and the Horde are fighting again, and the current Warchief burns down the tree home of the night elves as Celdori watches, horrified. She's spent her time since then trying not to think about it and concerning herself with helping the Horde gain new allies and figuring out how they got to this point in the first place.

    Personality:
If there's one word to describe Celdori, it's "bubbly". She's cheerful, upbeat, and with a knack of getting herself in and out of trouble through her blatant disregard for personal boundaries. She's only got the one life, and she's going to enjoy it as much as she can — other people should too! Youthful exuberance is the name of the game, and she's obnoxiously friendly with everyone she meets. Making friends and harassing them in the name of good fun is great, and Celdori attempts to be as much of a bright ray of sunshine as possible.

it's a better option than wallowing in her anger, fear, and sadness.

Beneath the sunny exterior is a woman who watched her entire family, the majority of her entire race, die in horrific ways. Her younger siblings drowned on a boat meant to carry them to safety, an older sibling died while trying to pull her to safety — the undead tearing them apart in front of her. Her mother vanished on a routine patrol before the Scourge destroyed Silvermoon, and her father has never been heard from or found since it fell.

Celdori has trudged through her feelings of resentment and anger with help to come out on the other side resembling something of a functional being, but it's not difficult to see flashes of it if one catches her off guard. The Light is important to her, and injustice must be answered swiftly and with strength; in those moments it's clear that there is more to her than cheerful bubbly youth. Furthermore, Celdori tends to avoid talking about the fall of Silvermoon's impact on her, personally. Vague terms are easier to cope with, and what happened to her personally is something she is extremely reluctant to talk about.

But for all her youthful demeanor and trauma, Celdori is dedicated. To the Blood Elves, to the Horde, to the Blood Knights and the Silver Hand, to her friends — no one is going to separate her from those she cares about ever again. She bears her responsibilities to the organizations as best she can, and takes her oaths and loyalty to each group seriously. For a woman who's had all of her stability and support stripped away at a young age, keeping the connections she's made since is vital for her to continue on, and she will defend each until she's no longer capable of doing so. Blood elves are resilient as a whole, and Celdori is no different.

Of course, through all that, she is still a blood elf — which means that by turns she can be snobbish, materialistic, and haughty. All while still being bright and cheerful about it; she doesn't really mean any harm by putting down things she deems as ugly or gross, it's just how her culture is. There's a deep desire for the finer things in life, for things to be expensive and to her tastes, that she can't shake. Sure, it might make her a blinding mass of glowing gold and red, but that's just part of being a blood elf.

Overall, Celdori is a bubbly individual who hides a fair amount of trauma under her cheerful exterior. Her youthful exuberance and stuck-up nature can make her off-putting, but her deep devotion to groups and causes balances out her overall personality. She hopes.

    Abilities:
eldori is primarily a Retribution Paladin, which is focused on doing damage with her sword and holy power. She has a few basic healing spells, but they are mainly used for healing herself, not others. If she (say through meditation) switches to a Protection Paladin, her spells and attacks are more defensive, focused on redirecting the focus of enemies to her and surviving the brunt of attacks. She cannot switch between the two in combat, and will require a one-handed weapon and shield if she wishes to use her talents as Protection.

Of note, she can also summon a steed to ride on for six seconds twice, and has an attack that is known to be able to stun demons and the undead. By virtue of being a blood elf, Celdori can also steal a single magical effect from someone, but not very often.

    Alignment:
Peromei. The blood elves, and Celdori's history and story overall, are about rising up from the pits of despair to believe and hope in one another and that there will be a better future for them, that they will rise again. Lor'themar Theron, the current Regent Lord of Silvermoon, sums it up nicely: "The blood elves will endure any hardship, overcome any obstacle, and emerge stronger than before." Celdori finds that hope from her despair and grief, and uses it to keep herself going forward. Also: it's pretty emblematic of paladins in general — the Light will always be there, even when things seem hopeless.

    Other:
Celdori will arrive with her armor, her sword — the broken Ashbringer, various other worthless knicknacks and food, and an urn of ashes of the former Warchief of the Horde. It has no magical properties, it just is.

    ⌈ SAMPLE SECTION ⌉

    General Sample:

It isn't that Celdori doesn't like helping people out now and again — Lera made that very clear that it was supposed to be a priority for paladins — but normally she just sort of stumbles across them. Minding her own business doing something like getting twenty dragonhawk hearts or killing a demon that terrorized the local village. Sometimes, very rarely, were things organized on boards. And never like this.

She wants to take five, just because she knows she can handle it. But apparently everyone needs a chance to want to help, or so she's been told, so Celdori skims the list for things that look familiar, or rewards she can use. None of them offer a one handed weapon or a shield, not even anything like a mount — something she could actually use. Her mentor's voice chimes in her head again, and she sighs before lighting up — there's one that's offering her a chicken as a reward.

That was close enough to hawkstriders to be a good pet, right? The night elves might have tried to make fun of them with a crate of them, but they were kind of cute in a weird, beady eye'd way. And the quest itself just had her running around delivering letters. That was something she knew she could do easily.

Her mood brightens, and, out of the corner of her eye, she sees some flowering vines, well. Flower. She's not sure that's how this is supposed to work, but who knows with floating cities like this one. Dalaran could have had flowers bloom when someone looked at them. The thought of something familiar only makes her brighten up more, and this time a gentle breeze waifts over her, bringing both the sent of the flowers with it, and a chime from windchimes somewhere else.

Celdori grins, nodding to herself. Yes, she could get used to it here, it, and everything about it, was nice.

    ⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

    Character: Alice Kozakura
    Age: 19
    OC Type: Pure OC.
Point Taken: A bit before the.final battle.

World Building: More details here! The aim of the setting was to capture the feel of an older JRPG, in the vein of somewhere between Xenogears, the Atelier series, and Final Fantasy VIII. The world is medieval fantasy, where humans and demons live in separate realms, mostly without contact. Monsters roam the world, and adventurers fight them, the monarchy is useless, the usual fare.

In an unnamed world, in the country of Adelheld, the invasion of demons from another plane, ordered by their gods, caused the Age of Catastrophe. Crops withered, droughts occurred, the march of the demons through the land caused seemingly-endless suffering. It was the advent of heroes, the Six Legendary Heroes, that led to the end of the age. But in truth, the Legendary Heroes were not truly heroic, save one- They betrayed the goddess they served to put in her place the god of chaos, instead creating momentary peace for even greater suffering in the future. The leader of the six, the Legendary Hero Ulrich, is of particular importance, but he was known to the public to be a humble man who sought only to help others. This is, of course, absolute bullshit and he has such a huge complex about how he is better than everyone else.

Demons are known to exist by humans, but what isn’t known much of is just how weird they are. Demons tend to look rather alien, not necessarily even having all their body parts attached to each other, and may not even look recognizable as living things. Which raises many questions about the existence of a half-demon. Please don’t ask me how it works. I’m trying very hard not to think about it and so is Alice.

Backstory: Note: Alice is transgender. For clarity’s sake, I’ll be using male pronouns for when she presented male, and female pronouns when presenting female, and will note when that switch occurs.

The Legendary Hero, Ulrich Lightbringer, had a woman he loved. Said woman, however, was actually a demon- One from the demon’s realm, who had fallen in love with Ulrich’s charisma and drive. Disguised as a human woman through her powerful magic, the two courted, and even conceived a child together. But Ulrich was the Legendary Hero, and unmarried- The Legendary Hero could not possibly have had a child out of wedlock. Such a scandal might have ruined everything for him. So instead, when the child was born, he told the world that the child was sent from Heaven, by Caleigh Himself, to help guide humanity on its proper path. Stories began to spread, that as soon as the infant touched the earth, he took seven steps and spoke of a poisoned well, or how his touch brought sight back to the blind, or the like.

The child was named Lucifer. He was a noble child, full of wisdom and never spoke ill of any, dignified beyond his years… Or so the stories would have you believe. In truth, Lucifer was simply a child- Pointed ears and odd markings around his eyes aside, he wanted nothing more than to make his father happy. He fully believed the stories that had been told about him, even if he didn’t remember them, and so he believed it his solemn duty to help people.

But when he displayed special powers none understood, it became a sign of his holy nature- A miracle. In truth, this was nothing more than magic, but none understood it- Demons had their own form of magic, and humans had their own, but a half-demon hadn’t been born in so long, none knew what to make of this magic. So it was called his miracles.

It was then his father gave him a mission- To wear a mask, and to go use his miracles to chaos and destruction at certain places. Lucifer was horrified that such a thing would be asked, but his father soothed his worries- He wasn’t going to hurt anyone, just frighten them. They were people who didn’t believe in the church, so it was better to scare them into joining the church so they’d receive the church’s blessings and protections, instead of just letting them be helpless when real threats came, right? Of course, his father knew best, so Lucifer put aside his worries and did what was asked of him.

But as he grew older, he continued to have doubts. Then, finally, he worked up the nerve to tell his father than he believed this method of converting people was wrong… but his father beat him to the punch. Ulrich told Lucifer that his last attempt to scare people had gone too far, and someone had died. And that being the case… Well, since Lucifer was already a murderer, he may as well continue to assassinate people for the church, so no one else has to get blood on their hands, right? And Lucifer, still a child, was horrified and traumatized by this enough that he agreed. And so he wore the mask of the messiah, the holy child by day, and by night, he wore the mask of the devil, a demon who killed without remorse, at his father’s orders.

As an older teen, Lucifer was sent out once more on a task- An agent of the church, Aran, was infiltrating a party to retrieve an artifact, warded against those of ill intent. They needed a party, pure of heart but also stupid enough to not ask questions, and Aran had found it- An alchemist in training, Sophie, a mage named Lucille, Valencia the knight, and a ranger who had fled from military academy, Marie. With Aran retrieving the artifact from them, it should have been simple.

But somehow, it wasn’t. When Lucifer donned his demon’s mask and fought the party, their power of teamwork fought back, driving Lucifer back. And their loud concern for Aran, failing to realize he had betrayed them, confused him. The way the party cared for each other, even though they had not been together long, confused Lucifer, awakening strange feelings in him.

It was his eighteenth birthday when he returned to Ulrich to report his failure. And as he waited, he overheard something- His father, talking to another. Speaking of ‘Lucifer’s mother’. Which shouldn’t be possible- He was a holy child sent from heaven, so he shouldn’t have had a mother, right? Upon confronting his father, Ulrich finally revealed the truth- Not only was Lucifer the product of the union between a human and a demon, but now that Lucifer had failed, and knows too much, it was time for Lucifer to become a martyr. With nothing else to do beyond allow himself to be killed or escape, Lucifer fled.

But Lucifer was far too famous. Unable to hide as himself, in pure desperation, Lucifer awakened the power of his mother- Though weakened and diluted, as only a half-demon, his mother was still a shapeshifter. And so Lucifer used that same power, taking on a new body to hide in- A female body. She reasoned to herself it would be much easier to hide in… And tried, for a time, to deny that she was much, much happier this way. That didn’t last long.

Speaking of things that didn’t last long, her hiding didn’t either! It was a scant few months- Using her magic and her experience in causing destruction and chaos, she instead reapplied those skills, along with some training from those she passed on the road, to act as a traveling doctor. Fueled by guilt, she at least wanted to save as many lives as she had taken. And for a time, though as guilt-driven as she was, she had found a measure of peace. Naturally, that was when the very same party she had betrayed before came to her in a panic, begging for help. One of their number- Sophie, the alchemist- had been injured, rather badly, and none of the others in their party had the means to heal her.

Of course, Alice was terrified. Though there was no way they could recognize Alice, or connect her to the person who had betrayed them, she nonetheless believed they knew, and were here to make her pay for her crimes. So she treated Sophie’s wounds, with bandages and medicine and a bit of healing magic, and attempted to leave. But the party wouldn’t let her, and basically dragged her along until she would accept some kind of payment.

Alice, fearing this was a trap, snuck away in the night, and was gone for merely a couple of days. However, at the next town, she was careless. In her haste to get away from the party, she hadn’t covered up her ears as well as she should have, and her pointed ears, along with the markings around her eyes, led some rowdy people from the village to realize she was a demon. Or, half-demon, at least- But they recognized the pointed ears from the ‘demon’ who had attacked their village to make them join the church, and no one seemed to notice or care that Lucifer had also had those ears. Recognizing her as a demon, they attacked her.

She finally simply resigned herself, giving up to let the village take her life, if that’s what they wanted. But then the party showed up, and protected her, completely misunderstanding why she had fled in the night. The party swore to Alice they would protect her, and no one would hurt her just for who she was. Even though they didn’t know who she really was, she ended up crying anyway, and joined the party officially.

It was here the party shared their quest, and Alice was surprised, and horrified- Even she hadn’t known just how deep Ulrich’s plot went. He was collecting artifacts, using the power of the entire church, to collect… Something strange. Pieces of a suit of armor, it seemed- Beyond that, it was an armor that could even restrain the gods. Ulrich, they had discovered, was intending to summon the god Caleigh to the earth, and then use the armor to seal the god inside himself, to stay in control but to have all of the god’s powers for his own. Alice was horrified, but couldn’t bear to reveal her true identity now especially.

It is here the bulk of the story happens, but Alice is mostly peripheral to it. The party quests to find the remaining relics, and they mostly succeed. The Church’s minions get a couple, and they encounter a few of the Legendary Heroes in the process, but they always manage to escape. Aran rejoined the party, this time as an ally as well. This continued for long enough for the party to settle into a steady rhythm, and it seemed all would go well. Ulrich would never assemble the full armor, so his plot would end in failure, and they would surely find a way to expose to the public what kind of person he truly was--

But that all ended when Ulrich made an appearance in person. Clad in full armor, wielding his own sword from his days as a hero, his pressure was too much for the party to bear. Especially Alice- One look at her, and Ulrich understood. He understood everything. She couldn’t escape. She could never escape him.

Her trauma, her terror, her fear, her desire for his love, everything took over. Without any will of her own, like a puppet, she took the pieces of the armor and handed them over to Ulrich, who proceeded to fight the party.

It was almost overwhelming. The party would have been wiped out without a chance to resist, had it not been for Alice. Not because she did anything, but just the opposite- Ulrich ordered Alice to fight, and she couldn’t. She was unable to act, like she was broken, and Ulrich decided to make the most of it and to just kill her there. It was then the party sprang into action, to save Alice, who couldn’t fight back.

Somehow, the party managed to repel Ulrich- Or rather, they took Alice and ran, abandoning the pieces of the armor that Alice had given up. And they fled, successfully, as they were simply less important to him than the armor.

From there, nothing seemed to go well. The party attempted to steal the pieces back, or recover the last few pieces, and failed. It soon came to light that the party simply would not be able to stop them, or defeat Ulrich. They could not even approach Ulrich to fight, as the legendary heroes had some manner of divine protection. It was impossible, and so the party searched for a way to fight him.

There were several character side-plots here. Marie grew to distrust Alice, with Alice’s true identity revealed, until Alice could prove herself. Lulu’s lost mother, Lunetha, was found, and sacrificed herself for the party. Aran rescues his self-charged charge, the blind prophetic street urchin Celadon.

Upon Lunetha’s sacrifice, though, it was revealed to the party that Lunetha had been Leta’s high priestess. And her sacrifice had managed to strip the divine protection from the remaining five heroes. No longer untouchable, they could find the chance to defeat these false heroes, if they were strong enough.

Ulrich had collected the entire armor, but the party had broken his protections. And so, the party climbed the mountain towards the Great Temple of Ahlhal, where Ulrich watched over the world to watch people doing pilgrimages for the sake of his power, ready to fight him and end his schemes.

After his defeat, Ulrich would fall, and the armor would break. Caleigh would possess his body, and the party would then have to defeat the God of Chaos himself, restored to his full might. After which, Ulrich would lay dying, and reveal his motivations- Originally, he had only wanted Caleigh’s power to turn back time, and to avert the tragedy that had destroyed his home village as a child. But over time, he had forgotten that goal, and become a dictator. But Alice is being apped from before the final battle, so she doesn’t know that part.

Personality: Alice is a pessimist. Fundamentally, she assumes the worst outcome of everything, and doesn’t like to let herself hope for things she sees as unrealistic. She believes herself to be a realist, but in reality, she’s just really down on herself and assumes she’s going to fail. However, rather than being her innate nature, this is the unfortunate outcome of a lifetime of abuse- She will automatically assume any failings are her own, personal fault, no matter how unreasonable that is.

That said, while she seems to be incredibly down on herself, she believes firmly in others. In those she likes and cares about, she believes in their ability to do anything, and in their good heart. Even in those she doesn’t particularly like or those she thinks of as evil, she believes in their ability to be better, and wishes them the best. Her deepest wish is when faced with evil, the evil may simply decide to… stop being evil, and allow a happy ending. Even when faced with Ulrich and forced to obey him to betray the party, she wished, deep down, he would simply forgive her, and turn good, and that she could have her father and her friends.

However, though she believes in people’s good hearts and their ability to always better themselves, she is extremely practical. If someone is attacking her, she will fight back rather than trying to persuade them to stop, and if it is to save other people, she can act ruthlessly and take lives. It is easy for her to fall back under her training as an assassin, after all, and she knows how to take lives, and would rather it be her that does it, rather than someone innocent. She does think of killing as the last resort, but it is not off the table for her- She is practical and pragmatic, and will not let her own feelings get in the way of that.

She is fueled mostly by an incredible guilt. That guilt guides most of her larger decisions, though less so in day-to-day life. She chose to become a doctor entirely out of her guilt, and her desire to save more lives than she took. But on a related note, she doesn’t value her own life very highly at all, willing to throw it away with no hesitation. She does not believe she herself has any value or could possibly be wanted at all, and no one would mind if she was gone.

Which is another problem of hers- She thinks of herself as a coward, because her default reaction to much of anything difficult is to run away. Whenever she’s in danger, but also when she can’t handle a situation, she’ll run away. Even if only mentally, when faced with a hard truth, she’ll often run away from the facts and try to ignore it and pretend it’s not true, because it’s easier than facing it. In more humorous times, she even reacts to compliments and praise this way- If someone flirts with her, she’s more likely to throw a smoke bomb and run away than to respond. She’s just very anxious.

That social anxiety feeds into her interaction with even her closest friends, as she is rather desperate for approval. Having been starved of love her whole life, she craves affection or validation from others, which means she tends to encourage them, even for their negative aspects- She’s something of an enabler, in other words. Though she doesn’t mean anything by it; she just wants her friends to be happy, and if jumping up on tables and making speeches makes them happy, then she’ll enable them gladly.

But that does have limits. She cares about her friends, and if she thinks they’re going to hurt themselves or otherwise make themselves unhappy, she’ll step in. She is something of a fusser, and as a doctor, tends to fuss at her friends to keep them healthy. She’s something of a mom friend in that regards. But she loves all of her friends deeply, and wants them to be happy.

She’s ultimately just a very shy and anxious but also kind and caring girl, who just wants to do good in the world and find validation that it was okay for her to exist. ”You ruined a perfectly good ninja is what you did. Look at her, she’s got anxiety.”

Abilities: As a half-demon ninja doctor bullshit from a JRPG setting, Alice has a lot of abilities. I’ll try to be brief.

Half-Demon Bullshit: As a half-demon, Alice has a special form of magic that neither humans nor demons can replicate. She is capable, by clashing her demon and human aspects against each other, of creating vast amounts of magical energy and converting those straight into strange effects, such as healing or fireballs or the like. However, this process, while not damaging, is still painful, and as a result she is not very good at anything beyond healing or her ninjutsu skills. The more magic power she generates, the more painful it is to her, and so she limits herself to her more practiced, more refined technique that she can use without waste.

Shapeshifting: Her mother was a full-fledged shapeshifter whose default state was inhuman and monstrous, but shapeshifted into a human to conceive and carry Alice. As a result, Alice has inherited her shapeshifting abilities, but she’s terrible at it. Changing her mass is incredibly difficult for her, and minor details are difficult to get right. Furthermore, she can’t become anything inhuman, and her pointed ears and the markings around her eyes are unable to be shifted away. As of now, she’s made herself a new body that she’s much happier with than her old body, and as a result, she would actually rather die than use this ability, as she fears she would not be able to get her body right like this again.

Ninja Bullshit: As a ninja in a JRPG setting, Alice has many abilities that are basically, if a pop culture ninja can do it, so can she. She can summon elemental effects, has a seemingly-endless supply of smoke bombs or throwing knives (in truth, she spends her nights crafting more smoke bombs for a full supply and carefully retrieves her knives after every battle). She can also craft illusions, making copies of herself to take hits for her. She can climb, she can vanish seemingly instantly, she is skilled at disguises, and can run on top of water and jump incredible distances. However, though her ninja abilities seem to be ninjutsu, all of the magical abilities are in truth simply her half-demon magic, and thus subject to the same limitations of those, such as pain and practice.

Doctor Bullshit: As a trained medic and doctor, Alice is aware of herbs and medicines, able to craft them, and is generally able to care for a person as well as any traveling doctor might. Though most of her knowledge is medieval-era, she learns quickly, and due to the world being magic, does have a fair bit of knowledge that would seem out of place in historical medieval era. She’s also able to use her healing magic and act as a magical healer as well, though this is more to supplement her actual mundane doctoring, as she is both in hiding and cannot let herself be known as a miracle worker again, and also because again, her magic is painful to overuse.

Alignment: Peromei. Alice’s entire arc is falling into despair, and the slow climb out of it again. She despairs easily, and finding hope again is hard for her, but even so, she keeps clawing her way out.

    Character:Glitch
    Age: 15
    OC Type:Pure Oc
Point Taken:During his time in dome when he has the kiddos

    World Building:
Glitch’s world is much like our own, except for the fact that in 2020 people began developing superpowers. Signs of the development of powers included a few incidents that began cropping up around the world. These incidents were caused by the appearance of super-powered beings (known as Irregulars) and, due to their often violent nature (ranging from accidental massive explosions to purposely robbing others with newfound abilities), began to frighten the public. However, throughout this time the Irregular population was still in the minority, and their powers needed more time to develop. Therefore, the world government sought to end the problem quickly by separating the Irregulars from the normal public in a project known as the Domes.

Domes were made to seem ideal place for the irregulars but were nothing more than cheap work camps and to keep the low population of super humans away from the majority of society. The irregulars growing frustrated and angry at their poor living conditions began fighting back against their governments, the biggest riots happening in Canada. Despite the government shutting off water and power to the domes the Irregulars still fought back. When the civil unrest became so great with the Irregulars the government decided to make an example of those who would fight back. They broadcasted a live bombing of one of the first domes to rebel. This for the time being effectively ended the rebelling of the irregulars.

However, the higher ups in the government did not want a repeat of the rebellions so they made a decision; They would separate Infants, children, teenagers and adults from one another into individual domes. This way the older generation of Irregulars could not teach the younger generations of what happened. Instead, the government would teach the younger generations of a false history about the world ending, their powers coming from nuclear radiation and that living in the domes was the only way to survive and what they did in them was to ensure that survival.

Robots were sent into the domes to stand guard over the Irregular inhabitants, under the guise of raising and teaching the children and infants of the first two domes, and to keeping the peace in the adult and teen domes. Though the real reason was to keep the Irregulars from developing their powers too much and would often meet the irregular prisoners with brute force if they were caught using their powers.

If anyone ever questioned about going outside and exploring the outdoors, or even tried to go outside, often they would be dealt with; either by killing them outright or sending back the offending person in having been lobotomized in a state of semi catatonia.

Effectively, The domes were the ultimate prison. No one would leave them in fear of those who never came back or those who did were not the same again.

    Backstory:
Glitch’s first memories were that of growing up inside the domes. When he was five he began his schooling in the child Dome. Being naturally curious and having been told about going to school from the robots, he began soaking in all the knowledge being taught to him and the other Irregular children. Glitch learned about the “history” of the world (or the falsified history of events designed by the companies). Taught that the world had ended, adults were too busy maintaining the domes so robots were to raise the children, everything seemed normal.

However, Glitch, like many other of the kids before him, noticed they hadn't been given names to the kids; just numbers. After all, robots can’t get very creative. Instead, children came up with their own names. They would draw on their powers, talents, or interests as inspiration. Glitch’s name stemmed from his powers. One day, during lunch period Glitch had wanted more to eat, but because the robot had served him his portion, it wouldn’t give Glitch more. Impulsively, Glitch went across the counter to grab more food and his hand touched the robot. A surge of electricity caused the robot to malfunction and start saying the word “glitch” over and over. That’s when Glitch chose his name.

In time, Glitch figured out his superhuman abilities had to do with electricity and Magnetism. Whenever he could he would use it on the robots to get more food. He took care not to get caught, having seen what happened to most kids who were too showy with their powers. Eventually, however, he did get discovered - not by a robot, but by another child. This child, a girl with pyrokinesis named Torch. She had noted his abilities as being useful and promised not to go alerting the other kids or robots if he would get her extra helpings as well. Glitch grudgingly held up his end of the deal, not wanting to have every child or robot in the Dome. Torch honoured her part of the deal as well, even going beyond it by helping Glitch. She would start small fires to distract the robots who oversaw the food distribution while Glitch worked his magic. As time went on in this fashion, Glitch and Torch began to trust each other, and eventually viewed each other as friends..

When they finally turned 12, they were moved via the underground tunnels to the Teen Dome. The moment they arrived, they were thrown into 16 hour days of work, with no breaks, with barely edible food and poor living conditions. They didn’t receive daily portions of food like they did back in the child Dome, now having to pay for it with food tickets from their jobs. The food tickets were enough to purchase one meal a day, and the meals themselves were not enough to keep anyone full.

As time passed, they decided to go back to their food-stealing scheme that had worked out so well for them in the Children’s Dome. Unfortunately, food security in the Teen Dome was much tighter. When Glitch tried to make a serving robot malfunction, another caught him, even with Torch’s distractions. He was beaten severely leaving him unable to work for a few weeks. In that time, Torch divided her already meager portions between the two of them.

With food problems, came bully problems. Older teens viewed the younger kids as easy pickings which Glitch and Torch were targeted for. A common practice for the more established inhabitants to try and take advantage of the newcomers, shaking them down for meal tickets or forcing them to try and steal things for them. Glitch and Torch resisted, earning a few bruises along with having their meal tickets stolen for a time. It wasn’t until Torch seriously burned one of the teen's faces that the older kids finally left the pair alone.

Having nearly starved on several occasions and getting robbed was enough to show Glitch how awful living in the Dome was. Cramped and trapped inside the Dome, he had no hope for anything better. He knew the only other option was to leave - but that meant becoming one of the Tweakers. Having seen firsthand what the Tweakers were like, the lifelessness and lack of self preservation unsettled him.

It wasn’t until he was fourteen that he heard about the underground fighting club in place in the Teen Dome. The fighting club was located in an old collapsed tunnel in which a small cave had formed among the debris. With the entrance being hidden behind a large loose panel and the robots no longer securing the area, the teens found it easy to use this one spot for their fight club. Each week the teens would host a fighting tournament where admission was a food ticket. Powers could be used in the fights so long as it didn’t result in any fatalities. The winner for that week would get a portion of the food tickets used for admission.

Glitch and Torch decided that participating in the fights would be their method of getting extra food tickets. For the first few weeks, all Glitch and Torch did was watch the fights: seeing who regularly participated, how they fought, who used what power or if they used them at all. When they decided it was time to try and participate, Glitch was first of the pair to fight. Having studied the other contenders before, Glitch could fight them easily . Having won the fights for that week, Glitch had managed to win enough food tickets for himself and Torch for at least a few weeks.

Torch and Glitch continued this pattern, keeping themselves as well fed as they use to. At least until the new kids would come to the teen dome.

When that time came an uneasiness stirred in Glitch. After everything he and Torch suffered in this dome Glitch became determined to protect the newcomers. Torch protested against it, saying that they already had a good system for themselves and that taking in strays could ruin everything. Despite her protests, Glitch wouldn’t budge on that. Finally, Torch accepted and the two would start .

They had taken in a few kids by the time they were sixteen. Glitch and Torch would manage to keep them protected from the worst of what the teen dome had to offer.

Regardless, their existence continued as it was: work, taking care of the younger kids, fight club and so on.
    Personality:
Glitch is what you’d call something of a typical angry teenager. Constantly rude, crass and very stand offish when you first meet him. After all, it’s the front he shows to the world. Growing up in the situation he did, Glitch learned not to be a pushover. He doesn’t let anyone talk down to him or walk over him if he can help it. However, it doesn’t mean he’s stupid. Glitch has always known when to pick his fights and just how to win them. Observant and self reliant, he would often only pick these fights when he figured out his opponents’ weakness or when he can gain something from it. He’s a boy of calculated risks and will often seek to tip them in his favour, rules be damned.

Glitch was forced to grow up relatively fast for the situation he was in. Constantly being preyed upon when he was younger, Glitch developed a quick distrust of strangers. He’s always suspicious of others intentions and always on guard when he’s put into a situation where he has to speak with a stranger. Despite his initial distrust, he isn’t against making “a mutual alliance.” When faced with a situation he is unfamiliar with or could gain little by himself, he’s willing to work with another to get what he wants. When deciding if he should go out on a limb and help a stranger it’s always with the intent of what he can gain from it.

However, he’s fully capable of trusting someone eventually and usually when he does he’s a very loyal friend. Torch is a prime example because while their relationship first began because of blackmail he learned to count on her. He will always have another person’s back if he knows they have his he just needs to see it. He’s willing to go to whatever means to keep them safe and healthy be it stealing or fighting. He won’t ever abandon someone he calls a friend regardless of how hard a situation may seem.

Underneath the layer of a rude teenage boy who may be a little too smart for his own good and a bit selfish does lie a decent person. When Glitch does see suffering or an abuse of power to children he’s at least willing to act against it and do something selfless. On a whim he was willing to take in a bunch of kids he didn’t know and keep them safe from the worst of the teen dome. For his friends he was willing to risk life and limb just to supply them with enough food to live. He’s actually even capable of some semblance of cheeriness, through snarky humour or willingness to be more talkative. His life just hasn’t allowed much for this decent side to come out.

    Abilities:
Glitch has the ability to manipulate, create and use electricity in a multitude of ways. He's capable of shooting electricity from his hands, draining electricity from other sources and storing it inside himself. He has been able to short out the robots in his Dome long enough to steal food.. He can generate electricity and cover his limbs with it to deliver an electrified punch. Glitch can also fire electricity out from his hands and blast others with it. To a degree, Glitch can use his electrical powers to lift, throw, and move metallic objects.

Glitch has managed to refine his ability of control over how much power he outputs as well. Exhibited with the robots, Glitch only ever held back enough to temporarily make the robots malfunction. He can make an electrical blast as weak or as powerful as he wants, deciding if he’d rather stun someone (like at the fight clubs) or using a more lethal blast.

He is completely immune to anything remotely electrocity based. He can’t be electrocuted and killed with electricity for he can redirect or absorb the energy. However, he is vulnerable to water. Large amounts of it can completely short him out and drain him of his electrical abilities for a short time. If he is completely submerged in water he could potentially die.

While he’s only used his electrokinesis for certain things in the Dome and to very small degrees he does have the potential to allow this ability to grow more powerful if he practiced and used it more in a more open setting.

Being part of the fight club Glitch managed to make up his own fighting style. Mostly it involves dodging, blocking and diverting kicks and punches to throw the attacker off balance. When he knocks them over he ends up taking advantage and attacks them while they're lying on their back. With this type of fighting style it has made him fast and nimble able to avoid and dodge at a faster reaction time than others in his Dome.

With the beauty of this environment it was definitely enough to overwhelm anybody.Especially, someone who's never seen real trees before. He should be happy shouldn't he? But, he's not. When he looks at the foliage all he thinks is what he lost, what his world lost. When he tries not to let it get the best of him it doesn't help. The bitter emotion is just too strong to ignore. It begins to wilt the grass around him, the flowers die. Beauty could not live where there was anger. What summer weather was around him seems to turn cold, the temperature spiking fairly quickly into more Fall. More suiting he thinks as he begins to look at what his emotions do to the world. Winter meant death. Bitterness meant it.

But, maybe he needs to apperciate it while it lasts. Even if he's bitter about his dead world doesn't that mean he's also happy to live in a thriving one? With that thought coming to mind it helps ease the pangs of pain. The grass that had taken on an ashen black colour, starts to respond to his thoughts of gratefulness.

It doesn't turn green again, but it takes on the colour of Fall. Orange and red grass now sprouting from the dead. The air also doesn't have that stinging icy quality anymore. Instead, the air becomes crisp and clear as if the Winter cold hasn't fully overtaken it.Flowers that had died under his pain come back more fully, not as much as they had when they were summer blooms, but more of when Autumn begins to spread. They still had colour but, were just slowly going into that long slumber.

Perhaps this field that he sucked the life out of and put back in represented how he really felt. An Eternal Fall.

    World Building:
The world of spirits is a modern fantasy, flavored by the existence of, well, spirits. By this world's definition, a spirit is a soul with no physical body to attach itself to. The term contrasts definitions such as human, which is a soul with a physical body to attach itself to.

Because spirits have no physical form, they are unbound by physical laws and rules. On the negative side, this means that a spirit cannot feel, smell, or taste. And though they can see and hear, they cannot be seen or heard. It isn't uncommon for a spirit to not even be able to interact with other spirits: They live long, lonely existences without the guarantee of acknowledgment.

On the plus side, spirits are not bound by physical laws. While a human soul is attached to its body, a spirit can possess any physical object. Through this object, they can potentially experience some of the physical world. An object that a spirit possesses is called a 'shrine.'
Shrines aren't limited to only physical objects either. They can be a person, for example, or a concept. The most common form of shrine is a mystery. When a spirit inhabits a mystery, they can gain magic powers over it. This turns them from a spirit to a Kami. And the strength of their magic is determined by faith.

The easiest way to illustrate this concept is by example.

A spirit who inhabits the mystery of agriculture becomes the Kami of Agriculture. The new Kami is able to manifest in small ways with magic, thus alerting humans to their existence. The more that humans believe that agriculture is controlled by this particular Kami, the stronger that Kami's influence over agriculture actually becomes.

This cycle of dependence once benefited all parties. In the 'Golden Age of Kami, the world was really ruled by the Kami that humans believed in. The Kami were seen briefly, they were heard, and most of all... They had an impact on the world they were born into.

But there is a drawback: Once a mystery is solved, the Kami loses their shrine. When humans discovered the science of agriculture, they solved the mystery and destroyed the Kami's shrine. And gradually, that Kami would lose faith until they reverted back to a lonely spirit existence. As scientific advances swept human civilization, the Golden Age of Kami gave way to the 'Era of Forgetting.'

By the 21st Century, Kami and Spirits are folktales and legend. The very few who believe have managed to keep their Kami in existence, but their power is only a percentage of what it once was. Mysteries are hard to come by, and it isn't uncommon for spirits to fight each other over the chance to inhabit a mystery.

There was, however, one last shrine available to spirits. A secret kind of magic that even the Kami affected by it didn't understand: Naming Magic. If a spirit was given a name out of love, and for as long as someone called them by that name, they could use it as a shrine. It's a very tricky kind of shrine. Once you know it is a name, its mysterious power disappears. You also cannot consciously use naming magic... and all of this relies on you being able to see spirits, love them, and being able to have their name heard. So it is a very rare kind of magic.

The life of spirits is further complicated by the existence of Spirit Hunters. While every hunter has their own reasoning, the vast majority simply believe that spirits and kami should not exist. There is a story passed down about how all souls, spirit and human, are fighting for the right to exist. It is believed that the overpopulation of spirits, who cannot die natural deaths, is quickly overloading and destroying the planet.

Spirit Hunting in the 21st Century is a quiet business, but a threat none the less. They solve mysteries as scientists, and use ancient magicks to destroy spirits all together. They will even destroy the Kami who still reside in unsolved mysteries.

    Backstory:
Marion Wing was born in the 21st Century of his world: A 'Modern Era of Spirits,' where the mere idea of them was kept to legend and folktales. His mother and father were both entirely normal humans, and their son was initially just the same. However, Marion was born with strange white hair and unnaturally bright cyan eyes. A trait credited to spirits being interested in the boy, who was born with the ability to see them.

His strange appearance frightened his parents. To his father, it was a sign that Marion was the son of another man. It was the reason that his father walked out on them before Marion was even three years old, leaving his mother to raise a son she did not want.
To his mother, his creepy looks were a sign that Marion was not even human. Granted, the young woman would have accepted any reason to abandon her burdensome son. When the topic of spirits began picking up attention, his mother determined that Marion was a spirit sent to curse her. She decided she could repent for her sinful early life by taking Marion to an active shrine and abandoning him.

Meanwhile, Marion was an exceptionally bright boy. At age five, he understood that the spirits he saw were not normal. He also understood why his mother thought he was a curse, that she hated him, and that he had made her life very difficult. So when he was left on the steps of an oceanside shrine, Marion made no attempt to follow his mother. He even promised never to tell anyone about her, and allowed his mother to escape him.

Fortunately, the shrine in question was not abandoned like Marion was. It was dedicated to the Kami of the Ocean, who was still worshiped by the nearby fishing village. Some of the elders found Marion in the morning, and they were mystified by how he could see the spirits they worshiped. They believed that Marion was the Ocean Kami themselves, and took him back to the village. There he adopted the name "Shiro," for his white hair, because he refused to give up his birth name. After all, he didn't want anyone to link him to his mother.

For three years, Shiro lived in the village as a Kami... but he was not actually a Kami. The real Ocean Kami was still attached to the shrine, and her power was fading. The villagers believed in their Kami, but only to lay blame on her. They blamed the Kami for every poor fishing season, every bad storm, every sinking ship... As a result, their Kami only had the ability to do terrible things with her spirit magic. She hoped that Shiro would change their opinion of her.

That never came to pass. Instead, the villagers began to blame Shiro. He was isolated from children his age due to his supposed status, and the adults only treated him well out of self-interest. When that good treatment turned to outrage and abuse, Shiro believed he deserved it. He was called 'The Curse of the Sea,' and it was believed that Shiro had come to destroy the village.

At age nine, the villagers finally had enough of him. They contacted a spirit hunter about the little Kami that had come to curse them. Spirit Hunters snuck in one night, took Shiro to the shrine, and murdered him. At least no one had the will to disrespect the child's body: He was left with a stab in the back, completely aware of how hated he was.

This was the shrine of the Ocean Kami. She was outraged to see what the villagers did to the poor boy, who did not actually possess the power they blamed him for. The Ocean Kami threw a fit, creating huge storms and killing fish with her evil powers.
However, no one connected the punishment with their crime. Instead, they believed that it was Shiro cursing them. They cursed him in return, blaming Shiro for every disaster that had ever befallen any of them and officially thinking of him as The Curse Kami.

Faith is miraculous. And sometimes, miracles are cruel.

In this case, the miracle was Shiro's revival. His spirit became a Kami, and his shrine became his own human body. Shiro woke up in his corpse, but was unable to feel pain from the stab or see the wound at all. He simply believed he had been lucky somehow.
This shocked the Ocean Kami. She could feel her own power fading and understood that Shiro was replacing her, but felt no ill will towards the child. Rather, she felt oddly maternal towards the young boy. She didn't want for him to know he had died, so lied to him. But she also urged him to flee from the village, before they found out he was still alive.

Shiro did not doubt the Ocean Kami. In fact, he immediately trusted the beautiful spirit woman before him. Shiro began calling her "Princess" because she was so beautiful, with the address eventually shortening to "Prinny."
Unknown to both of them, this nickname became Name Magic, and the new name became Prinny's shrine. Prinny led Shiro away from the shrine, but the entire time she expected to be chained to her physical shrine. She was surprised when she was able to leave the village behind. But Prinny never questioned it, and instead decided to make raising Shiro her top priority.

The two of them arrived at Asteria City, where they met "Tina the Tourism Kami." Tina's shrine was a tourism mascot for the town, and she had a lot of faith thanks to the children in Asteria. She allowed them to live in the attic of the tourism bureau. Initially, no one else in town could see Prinny... But Shiro spoke of her so confidently that even the adults began to believe that he really did have a beautiful older sister.

Thanks to Shiro's sincere love for his two new sisters, they both came to inhabit powerful name shrines. Tina and Prinny both became physical illusions, who got part-time jobs and started renting a real home for Shiro.

Though not conscious of name magic, they began calling him "Shi" and their family "The Yamato Family." Stories of "Shiro the Curse Kami" were beginning to filter into the modern city of Asteria, and they feared anyone making the connection. As much as possible, the girls wanted Shi to live a normal life. The now-sisters enrolled Shi in public school (because apparently it was illegal not to let him go to school or something,) and the three enjoyed a quiet, happy life.

It was happiness that did not last. Because despite trying to rename Shiro, his curse powers caught up to him. Not because anyone knew "Shi" was "Shiro," but because he himself still believed that he was a curse. Shi was a Kami, but his human body allowed him to create his own faith: And his own self-fulfilling prophecy.
It started small, but once it did begin it quickly snowballed. Broken mirrors turned to broken computers, lights flickering if he touched them, people getting sick if they sat with him... His school friends became wary, and even the adults began to wonder why Shi was plagued with tragedy. When spirit hunters wandered through Asteria, they recognized the now twelve year old boy as the one they had tried to kill years before.

This time, Shi was not killed. When Prinny and Tina realized the family was in danger, they packed a bag for Shi and told him to run. They promised to follow after him, but that they would throw the spirit hunters off his trail. He agreed and took off to a nearby forest.

Neither sister succeeded in coming after him.

After waiting for the entire night, Shi went back to check on his family. He found their home burnt to the ground, Tina's mascot self vandalized, and that all local spirits had been destroyed. He himself was discovered by some townspeople, and was fortunate enough that they were kind people. They were people who had adored Tina and Prinny, and adored Shi too. Even when they knew he was the Curse Kami Shiro, they could not hate him. They gave Shi money and supplies, then urged him to run away before anyone discovered him. When the twelve year old boy asked how he could repay them, he received a confusing answer:

"Just find a place where you can smile again."

Though confused by the request, Shi agreed. He left Asteria and began traveling on foot. Along the way, he continued to meet spirits and befriend them. With every town he stayed in, Shi made friends and created lasting name shrines. He also left a trail of destruction in his wake. Those who were kind to him suffered grave misfortunes, the places he lingered in were struck with natural disasters, and there was a clear media trail documenting terrible things that happened along his traveling path. The number of people who cursed Shi only grew, and with the stronger blame game came even stronger powers. It was a cycle that he could not escape.

As Shi was growing up, the world around him was also growing. And it was changing. Spirits and Kami were becoming mainstream again. Popular rumors had turned to televised sightings, which then turned to actual Kami appearing on television. By the time that Shi was fifteen years old, the idea of spirits was so mainstream that regular people could catch glimpses of them. Spirits appeared as brilliant orbs of light, which appeared in flickers to those who believed.

As this Era of Changing continued, humans blamed or praised Kami even more than this ever. It was this increase in faith that allowed Kami to appear more publicly, which started a positive cycle for their rising powers. This cycle also pushed spirit hunters to train themselves more, as they realized Kami and spirits were becoming more threatening. Finally, it also created a wave of popularity in the media.

Kami often appeared as superheroes. There were cartoons and tv shows produced about these supernatural beings, which could help or harm the world in whole. Shi longed to be one of the "good guys," but was burdened by all the proof that he was a villain. He decided to change his name again, this time to "Yoshiya Yamato," and become a "good guy." He wanted to redefine the story of Shiro, and his powers, by being a superhero.

At Yoshiya's current canon point, he is trying to be a hero. He lives alone and tries to fight crime at night, though clumsily so due to his powers. Even has he optimistically tries to change his self-image, he is afraid of attending school or going anywhere that he might hurt others. He continues to be his own self fulfilling prophecy, and accidentally causes more harm than good.

    Personality:
. FIRST IMPRESSIONS: sweet. cute. polite. considerate.
First impressions can be deceiving. While it is true a portion of Shi's outer personality is an act, it is just as true that he has his genuine highlights. That said, Shi gives off the impression of being akin to a shoujo manga heroine: He's a nice person who smiles a lot and powers through his hardships. His initial instinct is to be polite and considerate. Shi also comes off as being shy, linked to how overly conscious is of those around him.

He's also the type to smile a lot. When he's in a neutral mood (ex.: not afflicted with recent trauma,) then he will almost consistently be smiling. It is pretty plain that this kid has a talent for optimism, as he seems able to drag himself out of the angsty pit of despair no matter how deeply he may fall. And in his rush to look after others, Shi is often throwing himself under the bus-- noticeably so.

A lot of this stems from honest factors of his personality. Shi is definitely someone who cares deeply about the people around him. He hands out his love and trust like free samples, and does it with the motivation that you'll be a repeat customer. And yes, he does possess the inner strength to get through tragedy and come out smiling.

But like all characters whose personality sections become threatening light novels, there is more going on under the surface. I'm so sorry.

    . GRATEFUL FOR LIFE
A huge motivating factor for this kid is the fact that he is glad to be alive. He knows he is in a blessed situation and is very glad for it. His blessed situation is something a lot of humans take for granted, which does make his gratefulness seem weird out of context: Shi is glad to exist physically.

This means that Shi obsesses over physical things. He is freakishly happy that he can taste food, glad that people can see his face, happy he can hug a soft stuffed animal, grateful when you hear him... Where Shi is from, a Spirit does not have these things. Existing in a physical form is a luxury to Spirits and Kami, and Shi is very aware of that.

This results in Shi coming off as kind of weird. He gets excited over trivial and weird things: For example, he would probably enjoy touching a slimey animal because HE CAN FEEL SLIME! Shi also forgives painful things, such as being yelled at or injured, because he feels he should be glad to feel anything at all.

His appreciation of these trivial things reflects in how he treats other people. Firstly, he understands that normal humans don't have the same respect for their physical existence as he does. That's fine. He never holds it against them. To be so spoiled by a luxury is enviable, and he doesn't hate people for complaining.

What he does do is try to help people appreciation their blessing as best he can. He also tries really hard to leave physical, lasting evidence of his existence. Shi's hobbies include things like composing music, playing various instruments, baking and cooking, and light sewing. He wants people to be happy they have ears, taste buds, and a body they can dress up. He also wants to leave things behind, so when he inevitably vanishes he won't be lost forever.

    . HAPPY BY CHOICE
Shi's happiness and grateful personality is genuine. He is not pretending to love his life... all the time. The truth is that this kid has many reasons to be sad and he didn't just magically get rid of them. He chose to get rid of them. It's as unhealthy as it sounds.

For as his appreciation for his life, Shi is also burdened with guilt over it. A lot of people who he has loved, and still loves, died to get him where he is now. Shi knows that his life is precious. When he gets upset, particularly when he's mad about the cards life gives him, Shi worries he's throwing salt in his dead loved one's wounds.

So while he is almost always going to smile in the end, know that he doesn't always smile for the right reasons. Sometimes, Shi is just smiling because he thinks it is his job. He thinks that, as a Spirit gone Kami, he doesn't have the right to complain about his physical life. There are Spirits who envy his position and he doesn't want to hurt them by complaining about a gift. Once again, he's very considerate. Too considerate.

He lets it define him in a very unhealthy way. Shi can be taken advantage of and hurt over and over AND OVER, because he doesn't want to ever think ill of his lot in life. He does not entirely understand that you can be happy to be alive, but sad about the life you love.

    . POOR ANGST MANAGEMENT
He's in his teens now, but Shi can be very childish. Particularly regarding how he understands and handles his emotions. Now, I will briefly rise to his defense in two ways. For one, Shi died when he was ten years old. His emotional development got thrown off track very drastically.

Secondly, Shi has never had a stable figure in his life to raise him. His decided family and role models come and go through a fast moving revolving door. They are rarely around long enough to teach Shi the things we take for granted, like how to grieve or how to be angry at someone. Likewise, Shi hasn't had anyone to teach him to properly distinguish the evils of the world. He's naive and easily tricked, which leads him to easily fall into situations where he wants to scream or cry.

His mechanisms for dealing with these things are self-taught, by a physically dead kid who feels pressured into smiling. Shi tries to bottle up negative feelings for as long as humanly possible. He will change topics, tell smiling lies, and ignore his negativity. And he's very rarely going to let anyone help him deal it. When he reaches his breaking point, Shi will flee and vent privately. He does not want anyone to see him as being ungrateful to live, and he thinks taking more than a few minutes to deal with sadness equates to him wasting his precious life. It's not healthy, but he's never learned it is the wrong way to handle himself.

    . NARCISSTIC
The way that Shi is perceived is incredibly important to him. This kid is practically homeless for a large portion of his life, but he won't be caught dead looking it. That's actually part of his problem: He doesn't want to be caught dead. Shi is a Kami piloting his own corpse. His body is dead. There's even a gorey stab wound on his back. Yet Shi does not look like your classic zombie child: I purposefully colour his icons with blush on his cheeks, eyeshadow around his eyes, and sometimes I add frickin eyelashes. No one looks like that rolling out of grave. The kid spends his bits of money on cosmetics and meticulously maintains his make-up, hygeine, fashion, and aesthetic to look lively and healthy.

Shi cares A LOT about how he looks. He cares about how other people look too. He's downright narcissistic. His big sister, Prinny, got her name because she looked like a 'Princess' to Shi. He attached that narcissistic, appearance-based name to her so hard it became a magical shrine. While part of his naming ability is do to him loving the Spirits and their personalities, it shouldn't be ignored that Shi creates shrines that are attractive. The names he picks usually relate to something physical. Looks matter a lot to this kid.

Granted, Shi also grows in an environment where being physically seen is a great gift. Spirits lament the fact that no one can see them. A Spirit that can be seen by humans and have a physical body is considered blessed (and has probably transcended to being a Kami, but ssh.) Shi was also harassed and murdered because of his appearance. His Kami name, Shiro, comes from his deathly white hair. The only reason he hasn't changed his hair colour is because it is an aspect of his mortal life, which is a concern I will cover shortly.

    . SEEKING APPROVAL
Physical appearances aren't all that matter to Shi. He cares a lot about how people perceive his personality as well. Shi is one of those kids who is constantly seeking for approval. He has always wanted to be someone people like. Even before he as labeled a Curse Kami, before his home village ganged up to murder him, and before he was abandoned by his mother, 'Marion' wanted to be liked. Now moreso than ever, he understands that the way people perceive you is important.

As a Kami, Shi's existence is largely dictated by how humans see him. He is a Curse Kami precisely because so many people have cursed his very existence. He understands that he causes even more trouble when more people label him as a "curse." And that trouble will lead him to losing people, places, and happiness.

So Shi puts a lot of effort into how people perceive him. Before delving into how Shi wants to be seen, I should point out that "wanting to be liked" makes him overly cautious and he usually just comes off as shy. He's watching his every word, every action, and every reaction to get a positive response. When he's not sure how to proceed, he hangs his head and stutters in a quiet, nervous voice. That's not at all how he wants people to see him, but hey. If we all came off how we want to, the world would be weird.

. DESIRE TO BE PERCEIVED AS "KNIGHTLY"
What Shi wants to project is the image of someone confident, polite, happy, and self-reliant. Read his writing samples now and laugh at how far off the mark he actually is. Shi will tell blatant lies to people, thinking he is somehow covering his trail. His lies are meant to throw people off the scent of how lonely, scared, and dependent he actually is. Sometimes, Shi does find himself in a situation where he can project his desired image. When he gets the ball rolling, Shi tries to flower his speech with "fancy" speech. More like, he sounds like he read one Shakespeare play and thinks he now fluently speaks ye olden English. When he's got the act going, he smiles politely and behaves like a gentleman. He wants to be like a fairytale knight.

But Shi is not a fairytale knight. The fact he wants it so badly just goes to show how aware of that fact he is. Shi is a Curse Kami. He is a Spirit of a young boy who was tossed to Kami status.... because people hated him too much to let him rest in peace. The very fact he is able to exist and struggle for happiness is linked to how much people hate him. That's a hard fact to live with. It's even harder to live with it while choosing to smile. The way Shi lives with his Curse Kami existence is really a testament to his strong will. Shi probably could be some form of fairytale knight, if he wasn't so caught up on the Curse Kami reality.

    . SELF HATRED
Being a Curse Kami scares him. Shi hates it. He may live with it, but he is never happy with it. While he might smile a lot and while he has the potential to be a cute and goofy child, the fact he is a Curse always exists. Shi knows that he can get people killed just by hanging around them. His craving to be liked and in good company contradicts his kind hearted love for everyone around him: He wants to be with people, but he knows that it wrong. So Shi often plays an annoying game of tug-of-war with people when he first meets them. He is simultaneously trying to be a good boy and push them away, for their safety, while trying to give them chances to tug him over, for his sake.

Inevitably, Shi is probably always going to let himself be tugged over. His desire to love others for selfish reasons keeps outweighing any selfless love. He has accepted this, since he is a Curse Kami, and decided that the most he can do is "be careful." He tries very hard not to let his friends get TOO close. Like an emo, edgy anime boy, Shi tries to hold people are arms' length. He would rather not hurt people and prove to them he's a curse... For his sake as much as theirs.

As I close this personality, I will end it with the fact that Shi doesn't like himself. He's trying his best to be happy. He really does want to achieve a happiness that justifies all the lives lost to save his... but he's tired. That revolving door of relationships took its toll on him already, and now he is just standing there letting it slap him in the face. Shi believes too strongly that 'love and happiness' exist, even for Curses.

Because Shi also believes that he's a Curse. He has seen too much proof that this is true. He might deny facts that get in the way of his ability to enjoy his life, but that doesn't mean he thinks highly of himself. This self hatred are also, ironically, what make him such a dangerous Curse. A Kami is defined by humans, and Shi's mortal body-- the shrine his Spirit is attached to-- is still capable of defining Kami. So as long as Shi holds the belief that he is a Curse Kami, that is not going to change.

FORTUNATELY, a few good relationships and some consistency in his life can right that. Or could. If he stopped getting people killed. But eh. Some cycles are doomed to repeat themselves.

    Abilities:
    Kami Status:
Shi is what his world calls a 'Kami.' He is a spirit that has become exceptionally powerful. Typically, spirits just float around and belong no where. A Kami has a place to belong and ability to gather power. Spirits and Kami both gather power from human faith. When you tell a ghost story, you are potentially giving a spirit power by somewhat believing it. Likewise, most early civilizations created Kami by believing there was a higher power controlling their lives.

This creates a cycle, where humans believe in Kami and thus make Kami real. Kami do gain real power through faith, and can then really control the things humanity believes they do. In a similar vein, a Kami can lose their powers when humans stop believing in them. When humans learned there was a science to agriculture, the agricultural Kami would lose their power.

All of this applies to Shi, but with a slight twist:

    Sacred Child/Spirit Medium Status:
Shi is simultaneously a Kami and his own Spirit Medium. His spirit is possessing his real human body. This is exceptionally rare: Most humans do not get so strongly associated with the supernatural that their spirits can become Kami after death. Even fewer are actually able to return to their original bodies, much less appear to be alive.

But Shi is well loved. For all of the people who hate and curse him, there are just as many who love him. It also helps that his human self died under very unusual circumstances. What this means for Shi is that he can create his own power. He can also freely interact with the physical world, which is what all spirits wish for.
Moving back to the Kami thing:

    He's DEAD like a CORPSE:
At the end of the day, Shi is DEAD. His body is a corpse. He died when he was ten. Every sign of life this body displays is essentially an illusion that Shi himself puts on.

This means a number of things. For one, Shi's senses are a total mess. Most everything he experiences is something his Spirit experiences. In this world, spirits are only observers: They can see, hear, and smell. For those two senses are just fine for Shi.

What spirits cannot go is experience: They cannot touch, taste, or feel. So for Shi, these experiences are wonky. He can move his corpse to experience these things, but it's like using a stick to experience the world. There's a separation and his experiences are 'dulled.' He cannot feel the stark differences in warmth or huge amounts of pain, for example. Fortunately, he can taste due to taste being linked to smell. So at least he has that.

Also, he's kind of dead. His life is an illusion. Shi appears lifelike because he wants to. He wants his body to breath and he wants a heart that beats, and he wants to look alive. But he does not necessarily need these things. You can throw him in a lake or stab him through, and his spirit is still going to pilot his corpse.

Shi lacks a few gifts of life. He heals abnormally slow, for example, sporting wounds for way too long. He also suffers from slow growth. He's sixteen, but he still looks cute and small. Shi also cannot reattached limbs.

    Curse Powers:
Shi is a Curse Kami. He exists as a being who collects and spreads misfortune. This power is something that Shi does not have much control over, because he does not have the heart to control it. In theory, Shi could determine that he wants an accident to cause a house to burn down by specifically cursing a place. In reality, Shi accidentally causes accidents when his curses soak into an area. The longer he stays somewhere, the more his curses soak in and the more likely a tragedy is to occur.

His curse power can be visualized as a dark fog. It can also be seen by anyone with the ability to perceive magical things like souls, spirits, power, etc., since that dark fog is essentially a manifestation of his spirit and power. Shi can see it only if he's trying, and he would rather not be aware of it.

In a roleplay setting, his curse power will manifest in him being very unlucky. Those around him can optionally use Shi as an excuse to have their character suffer sudden bad luck as well. The danger is that the more people associate Shi with bad luck and curses, the stronger and less predictable his powers become. He tries to keep quiet about it, because he knows his power can snowball.
On the plus side, his curse power can be used to his benefit. It is statistically harder to hurt Shi, because he is cursing people and lowering their accuracy. He can willingly curse others, but it is very hard for him. Not due to a lack of power, but a lack of resolve to cause purposeful harm.

Fortunately, his bad luck can be 'mopped up.' Some spiritual items can absorb it like a sponge and religious 'misfortune barriers' can keep it at bay. Likewise, those things can hurt Shi. He gets tired because they are literally soul draining, or he will pass out at the base of a barrier. Lucky for him, they will not kill him so much as temporarily annoy him.

    Spirit Powers:
There's been a lot of negativity about being a spirit, but it isn't entirely bad. Because spirits are non-physical, they are not bound by physical law. Even a spirit with a medium or shrine can use their "Spirit Powers."

Spirit Powers are similar to aura, chi, or shounen anime martial arts energy. They reflect a spirit's unbound will. A spirit can train their 'aura' to do many things. A well trained spirit can even enact little "miracles" on the world with their aura, though it can be exhausting to the point of spiritual death. For example, using all of their power to create a long overdue rainstorm during a drought, or helping someone win the lottery.

In Shi's case, he uses his spirit powers primarily to heal his physical body. He could also potentially use it to create small shields for himself or pops of explosive energy. What holds Shi back is that Spirit Power is not well known. Books aren't printed on it, except in the context of myth or legend, and spirits don't typically interact enough to share their experiences. He's learning on his own and defining what he can do for himself.

For Shi, this means that he currently doesn't think his Spirit Power can be used for anything good. However, an RP environment could change this. Shi is likely to seek guidance on the subject and come to mimic other characters.

Some limitations will always remain: Namely, the fact Spirit Power is reflective of the spirit's will and existence. If he does anything 'too powerful' then he might snuff himself out like a candlelight. Even small tasks can be very draining, because they require Shi defy his negative self perception. He's likely to only be able to use Spirit Power for two or three positive acts a day before he passes out.

    Spiritual Death:
Spirits are hard to kill. Because Shi has already been separated from his mortal body once and it now possessing it, he becomes especially difficult to kill. If Shi is separated from his body by any sort of spirit repelling powers, then he becomes an invisible ghost. Because he is a Kami, that ghost will retain a human-like appearance for any with the supernatural ability to see it. He can be injured and destroyed in this form.

Just killing his body is technically not enough. He just won't be able to return to it, unless he has the power to heal the wounds (ex.: He heals the stab wound that originally killed him, but he would not know how to repair a missing head.) Even if his 'shrine' is damaged, Shi could potentially attach to something else. But that is such a can of worms that I won't bother with it in an rp setting. If his body is beyond repair, it is permadeath. If his body can repaired with his power, he will do that.

The most important thing to note is the fact that Shi's canon allows him to literally be saved by the Power of Love. It is the fact that Prinny loved him so much that allowed him to survive death in the first place. As long as there are people who love him enough to give him a place in their hearts, his spirit can rest there and recover.

    The Power of Love:
No really. He would do so well in a magical girl game.

Shi is noted throughout his history for having an exceptional talent for naming spirits. This isn't some truly magical power that only comes on the full moon to the main character of a TV series: It is a display of love. Shi's greatest claim to fame is his almost superhuman ability to love people with all his heart. So for any character who needs a power of love battery, it is worth noting that Shi is just that. He can pour his heart and soul into relationships like no one's business. Likewise, the music he plays and art he paints carry so much love that it is striking. And obnoxious.

Alignment: Elios: Shi is hated throughout his story. It would be very easy for him to choose to hate the world in return, but Shi actively chooses love instead.

Other: Nothing really! His cursed powers obviously require a permissions post, though.

    General Sample: TMD

    Emotion Sample:
Since arriving, Shi had been plagued by the idea that his emotions could manifest. He did his best to keep
a smile on his face, and the last thing that he wanted was to let anyone know his true emotions. He didn't want for anyone to know how terrified he was, or how much he wanted to go home, or how afraid he was to be touched.

Yet, there he was. Someone had tried to help him stand up after Shi fell to the ground, and his emotions took form. He had his arms held up to guard his face, while spikes of ice formed a protective barrier around his body. He was forcing the stranger to keep their distance. If he had been more in control, Shi would have liked to smile and stand up on his own... He would pretend to be fine, and friendly, and good. Instead, it was physically apparent that he was trying to keep people distant.

"S, So... Sorry!" He squeaked, scrambling to his feet. Then, unsure of how to actually fix the ice-- and too scared to explain,-- he turned to run. "Forget that you saw anything!"

    Character: Rosa Rivera
    Age: 16
    OC Type: Pure
Point Taken: Immediately after the second time the Youth Centre kids save her
    World Building:
    • Once - centuries ago -, humans had magic. Not every human, however, and due to man's superiority complex, this led to all the awful things you can imagine. Subjugation, enslavement, using unpowered humans are guinea pigs.

    • Innovation still ran deep throughout even the unpowered humans, and eventually, they'd invented their own way of fighting back. Created their own items that mimicked magic, things that blocked it. Eventually, technology far outstripped magic and was powerful enough to throttle the magic users, subjugate them instead.

    • This was the decisive event that shaped the modern world that Rosa lives in. Magic as an innate part of biology began to die down, unable to contend with constant technological advancement, until eventually, it seemed to be extinct. Seemed to being the operative words. One in every few thousand humans still contained some genetic marker that allowed them to develop powers. These people were dubbed the -bloods, with the prefix referring to their abilities (Stormblood, Aquablood, Fireblood, for examples) or the appearance of their blood (see: Inkblood).

    • Of all these genetic mutations, the rarest and most valuable is the Inkblood status, a power which grants the individual immortality and a lack of aging. These people can only be killed by draining all the blood from their bodies, blood which is coveted for its ability to reverse aging (thereby extending lifespans). Unlike the other -bloods, Inkblood does not have a technological equivalent, therefore making Inkbloods giant, walking targets.

    • As mentioned, humanity's great advantage was their technological advances. This means that society, as a whole, benefits from technology that is beyond our own, much of which is designed to mimic magic. For those who can afford it, technology allows them to have xChips installed into their heads, essentially allowing for telepathic communication, or instant teleportation pods installed into locations they frequently travel - say, home to your office. Hover-vehicles are as commonly used as land vehicles, allowing for multiple layers of traffic (supposedly for smoother flow, but that's not really the case). The army is equipped with weapons that allow them to imitate the abilities of someone who can magic up fire, or lightning, or water - compact little things that can do far more damage than, say, a modern-day flamethrower.
For those less financially well off, technology isn't quite so flash. Phones are better than our modern day smartphones, transport is more environmentally friendly, but nowhere near as impressive as the higher priced options.

    • Socially, a big problem is the disparity between the rich and the poor. In large cities such as Dewell, this disparity is particularly visible. High costs of living and an education system that seems designed to box people into a specific career path at too young an age means that many poorer families are trapped in a cycle - unable to let their children go onto expensive higher education as they're needed in the workforce as soon as possible to help support the family financially.

    Backstory:
Rosa is the oldest child (of 5) of Eric and Veronica Rivera, part of a large, extended family living in the inner city of Dewell in Astaria. For the most part, her family live the paycheque to paycheque life, and the kids spend just as much time with their aunts, uncles and grandparents as they do with their parents. It's a nice family, though, one that loves each other, even if each additional sibling places extra strain on the family's finances.

Rosa grows up with that odd peripheral awareness that not all is well in the family, that her parents are trying to make things as normal as possible for her and her siblings. She goes with it, because what else can you do when you're eight years old and don't fully grasp the nuances of finance or have any way to contribute. She helps with her siblings, goes to school, occasionally gets in trouble. Lives a normal and imperfect life, like you'd expect to see in your own city.

Everything's fine, up until she turns 14, when the academic system begins to sort students for their future careers. Having always had an interest in electronics and machines and being a student one would consider above average, Rosa gives serious thought to pursuing an academic line of study, wanting a degree in Engineering. Unfortunately, her parents point blank refuse, unable to assist her financially through the rest of school and into university. Instead, they suggest the trade school for mechanics, because it's "close enough" while also earn money through an apprenticeship scheme, allowing her to help keep the family's heads afloat a bit longer.

She resents it, but does so.

As they say, when it rains, it pours. At 15, settled into somewhat accepting her lot in life, things change again with the discovery of her Inkblood status while getting a blood test at the doctor's. This, in and of itself, might not have been so bad. But, of course, it's never that easy. It's kind of hard to deny that you're an Inkblood when people have seen you get up from a car crash that would have killed most, have seen your blood run decidedly not red in the street. Initially, Rosa doesn't think much of it. It's weird, but there are people like this, even if she didn't expect to be one.

Of course, when someone tries to kidnap you, you start thinking differently of your new blood. Tries being the operative word. She makes it out unscathed and tries to bury the event as far down as it will go, never speaking of it. Her family don't need that trouble weighing on them, and neither do her friends. Instead, she continues life as normal — except for the constant glances over her shoulder and disappearing in the middle of hanging out, which are eventually noticed by her friends. They question her behaviour and it devolves into an argument, Rosa stubbornly refusing to let them in on her Inkblood problems before she storms off and into the arms of yet more would-be kidnappers.

(Dewell has many things, among them a huge amount of people desperate and broke enough to want Inkblood to reverse their aging.) She ducks and dives out of the kidnappers grasp and barrels right into a stranger who immediately backs her up with electricity that shoots from her fingers. A Stormblood who then takes Rosa back towards a youth centre, and to meet the other -bloods in the district, a small group who had heard whispers of a girl with pink hair whose blood ran blue in the streets.

"Looks like you're real, huh?" After introductions, the group offers to help Rosa by supporting her with their more offensive magic when she's in trouble, but she immediately shuts it down ("I can take care of myself, but thanks") and bows out of the place.

In the following months, life settles into something of a routine, at least, as much of a routine as anyone can consider kidnapping attempts on top of the rest of life. Rosa continues to manage to escape people who want her blood and turns sixteen (not that she's sure ages matter much once you're told you'll look like this forever). Life is nowhere close to perfect, but it's good enough, her family can afford everything it needs to and she even gets to save a little of her apprenticeship money for herself.

Like many a weekend, Rosa wanders off to check out a nearby farmer's market and meets a girl with a smile as lovely as a paycheque at the end of a hard week. They stroll the farmer's market together and flirt in that awkward, unsure way teenagers do, neither quite willing to make the first move, and wind their way out of the market and into an alley, where the girl signals to the ambush which has been set up.

Rosa darts, barely escaping the initial jump and hearing a cry of "You don't need to be soft, she can't die!" as she scrambles to put some distance and garbage between herself and her latest kidnappers. Shots ring out just as she rounds a corner and graze the back of her leg, slowing her down enough for the kidnappers to catch her and knock her to the ground before licks of heat and flame and the crackle of electricity overhead send them running, and the thundering fear gives way to realisation and hope as she looks up to see the Youth Centre kids standing a few feet away.

    [personal profile] inkbled 2019-09-03 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
    Personality:
Upbeat and outgoing, Rosa makes a strong first impression: one of a cheerful, energetic teenager who loves food and — like many teenagers — just wants to find someone to date, so she's not a complete loser. With a tendency to say whatever comes to mind, the words ditzy or weird often accompanies that description. But generally speaking, she's a friendly, open-seeming young lady, whose upbringing as an oldest sibling in a busy household shines through most clearly when she senses an opportunity to help someone.

But being helpful doesn't negate Rosa's tendency towards bottling things up under a smile and an almost vicious determination to appear normal. Secret-keeping is part and parcel of who she is, thanks to her upbringing and now her Blood Status. As noble as she may believe the idea of keeping her problems from affecting others is, it can and has led to arguments with friends and left them asking why don't you trust us, Rosa? Growing up in a family who were stretched to the limits financially has led her to try and solve her problems "independently", so as not to put more burden on the people around her.

Despite her easy-going, often irresponsible seeming nature around the world at large, Rosa prioritises her duties to her family — to helping them survive financially in a city that makes it incredibly difficult to do so — above most everything else, including her own dreams of going to university. Furthermore, she expends a lot of energy in keeping up appearances, of making her family's situation seem less dire than it is to the world at large. This includes never really talking about her resentment at missing out on further academic study to help provide financially for her family, and finding ways to do "normal teenage things" such as go out shopping and to parties. (She squirrels away what little money she can save from her apprenticeship for herself, honestly.)

If anything, Rosa is a big ball of denial a lot of the time, convinced she can become the mask. If she smiles enough, or acts enough like a silly teenager, she won't feel the jealousy that burns under the surface at every person who is more financially stable than her family, at everyone who isn't a known Inkblood. Her dream is nothing more than to be what her society deems normal — i.e. part of a family affluent enough to allow her to afford her dreams, and decidedly not immortal — but deep down she's aware that ship has long since sailed, and she hates it.

This dream of "normal" influences everything Rosa does, even to her detriment. Normal is the reason it never even crosses her mind to make money from her Inkblood abilities — never considering selling her blood despite the fact that she could quite easily clear her family's financial problems by doing so. Why should she have to do so, when other people simply work for a living? It's not fair and Why me? are frequently whined protests which refer to far more than spilling sauce on her favourite top.

Admittedly, Rosa is aware that the unfairness of her life is down to forces beyond her family, that society as a whole is not perfect, but this awareness is a helpless thing, a "yeah, it sucks, but what can I do?" thing. She doesn't consider changing the world, just trying to fit into it and survive it, and wants that for those she loves as well. She tries to help others where she can and easily empathises with those who are down on their luck — after all, she's there, too.

Whether it's part of being immortal or simply a maturing young lady (we'd say growing, but lol), Rosa's love of food is perhaps the one thing which equals her love of machinery. There's few things which, in her opinion, can't be solved by saying "Lunch?" and while she can cook, she would much rather be able to gorge herself on food truck fries than make her own. In a way, it's one of the few things Rosa truly gets for herself — her clothes will eventually go to her younger sisters, her job has always been for her family, and that dream of being a normal teenager who dates others and never has to watch her back remains out of grasp as long as her blood runs blue — but carbs can never be ruined. ... She hopes.

    Abilities:
    INKBLOOD;
    • Immortal, or at least damn hard to kill. The only things that can kill an Inkblood are complete exsanguination, or the destruction of their heart or brain. Beyond that, Rosa can recover from any injury. Blow her up? As long as her heart and brain are in one piece, and there's blood clinging to her veins, she can be stitched back together and bounce back as if nothing happened.

    • Simultaneously, Rosa's blood allows her a degree of accelerated healing from illness and injury, although the speed of it depends on how much blood she's lost. Even at the worst, she can recover from injuries in a week.

    • As stated above, her blood also works to reverse aging and therefore extend lifespans. It won't heal anyone with illnesses, but it will reverse some of the progression, therefore giving them more time. These effects are all temporary, and no amount of Inkblood consumption is enough to give someone an Inkblood's immortality.

    • All of this comes with one very distinctive marker: Rosa's blood is a deep, inky blue, rather than red.

    MECHANICS;
One of Rosa's loves has always been vehicles and transportation. She's spent two years apprenticing as a trainee mechanic at trade school, working in a student garage and learning more about land and hover vehicles. This has given her experience with and knowledge of how to diagnose problems with vehicles and fix them under supervision. She has studied land vehicles in far more depth than hover vehicles, and is best acquainted with electric motors, which are the primary type of vehicle in her world.

    GETTING THE FUCK OUTTA DODGE;
Despite her lack of any sort of combat skills, Rosa has been dodging kidnapping attempts since her Inkblood status got out. This is often just due to the ability to think fast on her feet, combined with the fact that many of her would-be kidnappers aren't the most intelligent of people, often resulting in some cartoonish looking escape scenes involving terrible wigs and taking advantage of crowds and police.

Alignment: Aiada. Behind her smiles and laughter, Rosa is frequently envious of the things she doesn't have — envying people who aren't known Inkbloods, those who have the money to continue on in school instead of going into a trade. It's not something she's massively proud of, but definitely spurs on a lot of her behaviour.

Other: Nothing I can think of.

    Backstory:
Perne was born a daughter of the Holy See to Reauneaux Alderic Archevauliere and Nolene de Sauveterre. Reauneaux served as a member of Ishgard's military in his younger years before he began a family with Nolene, who had aspirations to study thaumaturgy, plans that were later put aside for the sake of social duties expected of her. Before Perne, they had sons—Cyril, Asheaux, and Dion. Perne was the last of their children, with no plans for any additional, leaving much in the way of expectation upon their youngest.

Ishgard being rooted in tradition, involved outdated concepts such as common gender roles, transparent social castes, religious persecution, and an impressive history of war and bloodletting. Growing up in that kind of world, Perne was given expectations that varied greatly from those offered to her elder siblings. Where her brothers were permitted to chase glory with the squadrons of the militia and aspire to follow in the footsteps of legendary dragoons, Perne was largely sheltered from the world that lingered outside of the Archevauliere estate. She was given private tutelage on a number of subjects that were deemed appropriate, such as Ishgardian history, social diction, reading, writing, and music—specifically harp, flute, and performance. All of this was done in an effort to make Perne seem appealing enough that her family could betroth her to another minor house and secure legacy and amass fortune. She was raised and groomed to believe that her worth was only what she could ultimately provide for her family, which was meant to be her foremost and only priority.

Often left to her solitude when she wasn't pursuing studies, Perne developed both an admiration and an envy for her brothers, and she too wanted to join them in their excursions. Although it wasn't permitted, her youngest brother, Dion, took to the habit of teaching and training Perne in secret, even going so far as to procure her a custom-made set of armour that she could train in. This continued for a couple of years, but was eventually discovered by the two retainers (guardians) that Reauneaux had assigned to look after Perne in his absence. Both Dion and Perne faced punishment, and Perne's armour was confiscated.

In Perne's blooming adolescence about the sixteenth winter, Nolene and Reauneaux began to scout for potential families that Archevauliere could be tied to. The Archevauliere history had been serving and supporting House Dzemael, which had something of a reputation for being a bit underhanded and deceptive (yet to be fair, such behaviour came to be considered a bit commonplace in Ishgard's social circles). Perne served as a ward to the same house along with a number of her cousins and the stigma against House Dzemael, those who supported it, and Perne's own personal behaviour served as obstacles in securing her a betrothal. While she had no lack of options to her disposal, Perne had very little interest in marrying and was still more fanatically obsessed with wanting to be like her brothers, in spite of what her household's defined focus for her was supposed to be.

Her paths crossed with an aspiring dragoon named Aubrent Lemelle, an acquaintance of her brothers', some years her senior, and fellow soldier of the militia when he made visit for home. Perne found in him a confidant and a refreshing mind that wasn't set on following traditions of old. He supported Perne's desires to be more than what her family tried to mould her into and regaled her with [likely] embellished tales of his travels both in and out of the company of his squadron. It was through him that she learned more of the patron deities scattered across Eorzea, religious theory, and that even an Ishgardian could follow the beliefs of someone other than the Fury, though in doing so, it made that individual a heretic in the eyes of the Holy See Inquisition as defined by the Orthodox Church, which was represented and its notions upheld by the Knights of the Heavensward. Aubrent was a follower of Oschon, the Wanderer and in merely spending time with the man, Perne was rather inspired to do the same. Where she found in herself restriction and confinement, she found in Aubrent liberation and the ability to follow heart's pursuits.

Over the years that followed as Perne's affections for Aubrent birthed, grew, and deepened, the Inquisition's efforts to quell heresy and to silence those that would speak out against them intensified. Heresy became more than simply religious intolerance, but rather any opinion differentiating from what the Archbishop Thordan VII demanded of his people. Aubrent meant to serve as a self-proclaimed vigilante of justice, offering refuge to those accused of heretical support or affiliation, in addition to silencing the voices of the Inquisition's representatives. Agreeing with his perception of Ishgard deeply in need of social and religious reformation, Perne chose to join him, despite the concept that she had never seen true combat and had very little real knowledge on the world's hardships that existed outside of the Holy See's luxuries and comforts. It could be argued that due to Ishgard's history, every elezen within its gates was susceptible to the use of force and Perne's ability to stand at Aubrent's side even knowing that they would pursue justice by way of violent means implied that even she was not immune to the history of their people. Through affiliates of the growing 'resistance' movement, Aubrent and Perne succeeded in escorting a trivially low number of individuals facing (or fearing) potential execution from the gates of the Holy See. Perne's hands did not escape unscathed, however, and in time she was stained by both her actions and the voices they had to silence infinitely in the midst of delivering their liberation.

Their efforts did not last long. In less than a cycle, Aubrent's motives were discovered by an unnamed man hired to hunt him down on charges of heresy. Perne was found alongside Aubrent and both were charged with heretical conduct and obstruction to the church's justice. It was only by the showering of coin and a great deal of bribery that Perne managed to escape execution herself, though in doing so, House Archevauliere suffered deeply for the payment of the church's silence. Had it not been for Reauneaux's years of devoted service and allegiance to the city-state, his words would have fallen on deaf ears and Perne's story would have ended rather abruptly. Convinced she had been wrongfully influenced by Aubrent's presence and not actually a heretic herself, Reauneaux forced her into quarantine once more. Aubrent was said to have not been so fortunate. News delivered of his gruesome execution passed the doorstep of the Archevauliere estate and Perne was forbidden from further association with the man or his family name, issuing her a lack of closure as she was shoved back toward the purpose her father had chosen for her.

As Ishgard's evolution and the grasp of its Inquisition reached a height and climax, the cries for revolution grew. Not simply for reformation, tolerance, and alliance with the great dragons, but for Ishgard as a whole, to change with the world that changed outside of it. In order to continue thriving, Ishgard's only option was to adapt or crumble, while acknowledging its faults of the past and making effort to turn away from older, outdated traditions. To put a bloody end to the long-standing war with the dragons, the Holy See opened its gates to outsiders, formerly having been an utterly nomadic city-state. Although Perne had heard the tales of a great saviour who lent assistance to the revolution's efforts, her personal knowledge was sparse and her participation nonexistent as her family kept her from being involved, concerned that events of the past would somehow pave way toward repetition. With the eventual fall of the corrupt Heavensward knight collective, the primal King Thordan, and Archbishop, his illegitimate son, Aymeric de Borel, responsible for much of the revolution's growth, took up the mantle of leadership (though mayhaps a bit reluctantly), and took the reins to turn Ishgard toward a new future and potential providence for its people.

In spite of the way Ishgard slowly began to move in a progressive direction, Perne's family and many others of older tradition, remained tied to habits difficult to break. Although nothing stopped her from leaving the Holy See, Perne's lack of worldly knowledge and fear of losing her inheritance kept her rooted to Ishgard, considering it was the only world and lifestyle she'd known. Begrudgingly, she tolerated her family's antics.

Looking for a constructive and healthy way to spend her free time that did not involve dreams of glory and battle with weapons of the polearm family, word reached her ear of an operatic theatre company looking for investors and patrons located in oceanic region of La Noscea. While granted leave with escort to investigate the possibilities of supporting the arts and expanding her family's name, it was only done under the pretence that Perne agree to the most recent match directed toward her—Raffael Prideaux, a man of the cloth and dedicated to the older ways of the Orthodox Church. With little to contest against it and her parents unwilling to hear her repetitious excuses, Perne finally acquiesced, and gained something akin to freedom. Within extent.

In La Noscea, she found one Oleandre Torchier, executive of the opera house in question, the Palazzo Aldenard. Upfront about her intentions, it was as he questioned her background that he decided she would be of more use to him as a direct hand rather than a patron, and with some convincing, he extended to her an offer that was both practical and would allow her a reprieve from the life that awaited her back at the estate. Perhaps it was simply intuition of his, or he found himself sympathetic to her cause. Whatever the reason and whatever his motives, Oleandre hired her then and there on the spot to serve as a member of the opera house staff, in means of both performance and his casting executive.

With word from one of two escorts sent along with her, she issued response to her family, making a promise that she would remain honourable and uphold her portion of the agreement, but that she would take up temporary residence in La Noscea to stay near Oleandre and the opera house. Thinking her time better spent in La Noscea than daydreaming about squadrons and the fallen Aubrent Lemelle, Reauneaux allowed her the privilege of her request, provided that his retainers remain with her that they might report back to the Archevauliere estate his daughter's progress until she was recalled for her eternal bonding ceremony.

Re: Perne Archevauliere | MMO OC - Part 2 of 3

    [personal profile] porcelainandblood 2019-11-01 11:03 am (UTC)(link)
    Personality:
Perne is an individual with whom it is likely wisest to assume that there is more than what she displays. She would define herself as a labyrinth of complexities, and quite likely not worth the time or the effort it would take to begin unravelling such mysteries. As such is the case, she is disinclined to offer much information about herself and her history unless it's on a need-to-know basis, and even then, such a basis is defined by her for her. This makes it difficult to grow close to her, at times frustratingly so, and understandably tests the patience of those who would seek to have her company.

At the very core of herself, Perne is an oft insecure woman, missing confidence in many aspects of her life due to her upbringing and lack of general encouragement and praise from her parents. Much of the truth of this is concealed beneath her obsessive desire to be perceived as a strong and sometimes infallible individual. Even should she not believe she will be successful in her endeavours, Perne tries to carry an air of nonchalance or falsified stability to portray otherwise in the presence of others.

Having grown up under intense scrutiny and rather excessively sheltering parents, much of Perne's social world has lingered in books. While she possesses quite the love affair for written works such as historical tales, hymns, and poetry, she didn't acquire a lot of the necessary social skills that others outside of Ishgard would be privy to. Her colloquial mannerisms reflect this in vocabulary she uses as well as transparent body language when it comes to others in her personal space. Not a good conversationalist by any means, she does possess the ability to take initiative and at least make an attempt, poorly-done as it may end up being.

As she has been privileged enough that most things have been handed to her, the idea of 'hard-earned coin' is one lost on Perne. She's never had to perform manual labour or get a job or make something of herself, because she was essentially told that her mere existence already made her something of value in the eyes of her father. Consequently, Perne can occasionally come across as entitled, spoiled, and petulant, though she doesn't seem to recognise any of those traits in herself, appears to know no better, and hasn't been properly educated to remedy that behaviour.

Given that the socio-political world of Ishgard requires its citizens to often be manipulative and deceitful, Perne has been surrounded by people who are capable of putting on masterful charades and facades. This skill too, has been acquired over time, allowing her to play the part of a role rather than to act sincere or genuine. Having done this for so long, however, Perne can't claim to know if she has been fooled by her own masquerade, or if a portion of the true her even remains. This has become a consistent source of inner turmoil while she faces the potential of self-discovery and denial.

Believing that words can often demonstrate a sharper edge than a blade, Perne's preference in nigh all situations is to approach it with diplomacy and a publicly portrayed good-will and intention. Beneath this seemingly charitable and altruistic performance, Perne's interests are largely self-serving and self-indulgent, given that she has been raised in a culture that doesn't necessarily promote the actions to serve others. As with many things, exceptions do apply. Perne's dedication to those she would label 'friend' or emotionally close is unquestionable. She believes in concepts like loyalty and integrity, which can sometimes contrast with what she's been raised to believe is the proper course of action.

She is most comfortable when she is considered to be inconsequential or rather 'plain,' and truly believes that in the sea of her people, she is both of those things. As such, she does not handle attention or recognition well, preferring to remain an individual that most would define as unsuspecting. While this could also be a facade for the sake of achieving her own goals without fear of interjection or discovery, many times Perne's inability to handle such attention with grace is sincere and not, in fact, a charade at all for ulterior motive.

Due to the traditions upheld in Ishgard that she was born into, she is remarkably jaded, oftentimes cynical, and not terribly gifted with a sense of humour though capable of sarcasm and dry wit. She requires mental engagement, stimulation, and intrigue in order to be impressed by others or to consider them worthwhile presences. Many of the people in her homeland are drawn to materialistic value and other superficial concepts, which she finds no favour with and thus is more inclined to be drawn toward others who are unlike Ishgardian custom and history.

Curious about the histories, traditions, and religious practises of other peoples, Perne is surprisingly open-minded. Not with the intent to be influenced by others, but rather in her own degree of tolerance and desire for knowledge, something that is likely to be attributed to the Orthodox Church's lack thereof. This same demeanour is what allows her to own the sentiments she possesses when it comes to people being mistreated or unfairly persecuted. With her personal investment as a true 'heretic' of Ishgard, Perne cannot find herself judging others without labelling such thoughts as unfair and hypocritical. In this aspect, Perne is a genuinely kind and understanding person, making her a good listening ear for objectivity.

    Abilities:
Perne's shining skill set is her knowledge of botany, salves, and poisons. The upside to having been confined to her family's estate for so long was that she had plenty of time to research the various flora in the region. The moment she was given opportunity to explore further, she took it without hesitance. Perne holds a tome she penned herself and it's filled with observations on plant life cycles in Eorzea, along with sketches, and notes about their constructive and deconstructive properties.

While certainly no expert in any means, Perne has some familiarity with lances and other like weaponry. It is possible that she could hold her own against someone of an elementary challenge (or equivalent to her), but anything above that would easily overpower her.

Capable of playing a couple of musical instruments (flute, harp) and singing, these are fairly domestic abilities and not likely to be practical in the grand scheme of things, but she's had plenty of years to hone the skills for each and possesses a great fondness for the arts.

    Alignment:
    • Peromei
Perne consistently lingers between possessing a resigned demeanour toward most of her life's circumstances, not believing that things can improve. In spite of this, though she tries not to hold hope and optimism for brighter days and a brighter future, she still continues to, even if she doesn't choose to give voice to those thoughts.

Other: I can't think of anything to put here that I won't end up putting in the question section.

[His reaction renders from her a momentary pause. It's not a common thing to be thanked so whole and hale of heart. As such, She doesn't quite know what to do with it. So... she does what she is best at and chooses to simply gloss over it.

The air of her discomfort with such a notion, however, renders for a moment, a sharp little breeze that passes her. It's a moment where cold washes over her, embraces turn of neck and waves of dark hair. Seemingly out of nowhere.

Perne doesn't have an explanation for that.]

[Perne tries not to be sarcastic. She really does, but that is very likely one of the most idiotic questions that's been asked of her. Please. Clearly he means well. I assume he does. She airs a sigh, pinches the bridge of her nose, and a nearby cactus flower wilts as a result of her disdain, something she doesn't even take heed of in light of the situation.]

    Questions:
Perne tends to carry with her a variety of plant parts, one or two salves or other similar concoctions she's made, and a tome of her observations of plant life and various properties. Would she be able to bring any of that with her? (The tome is what I'd be more interested in, if possible.)

    Alignment:
Piphron - Glitch is a kid who finds others hard to trust. Really, he distrusts people right off the bat but when he finally befriends someone he will trust them implicitly.

    Character:Sigyl Frey

    Age:25

    OC Type: Pure

Point Taken: A week after reuniting with Galinda, came in during 4th wall

    World Building:

Sigyl lives in the world of Terrha’in, that consists of six continents inhabited by varying cultures and governments. Magic is done by channeling the natural energies of the world through one's body and expelling back out to achieve certain effects. However, wizards tend to get extremely used to one kind of energy and the four quarters of the world contain slightly different energies so, while there may be areas where they mix (And only one relatively small area where all the energies converge) for the most part it's rare to see magic users outside of their native parts of the world unless a) they're very good, b) They're actively training or c) are doing something of great importance.

Humans also live alongside other races such as elves, dwarves and "beastfolk," people who resemble bipedal animals. Monsters exist alongside regular animals and are often treated as normal, if not more dangerous, parts of the regular wildlife. Certain monsters have been domesticated and are occasionally raised as farm animals.

Sigyl is specifically from the continent of Thornspane, a medium sized continent with around half of it belonging to the Leahdour Kingdom. Many decades before Sigyl was born, a monster rampaged through the continent, and especially terrorized the Leahdour Kingdom and the surrounding area. Four young adventurers took it upon themselves to slay the monster and bring an end to the suffering it inflicted on the citizens. After a difficult adventure, they sucessfully defeated the beast. Though rewarded by the kingdom, they remained mostly anonymous to the general populace.
Soon after, the King appointed a young woman his new Court Magician. No one knew who she was as she wore a mask during any public appearances and spoke only to the king in whispers. She also seemed to be very influential in regards to swaying the King's opinion and his son the prince seemed very fond of her as well. This young woman was secretly one Elda Frey, who was one of the adventurers that slayed the mysterious beast, having chosen to be anonymous to keep something of a private life. Many of those in the king’s court did not like her as her suggestions are into what they perceived as their own wealth and “mysteriously” soon rumors began to spread that she had wicked intentions, that she would use her influence with the king to bring ruin to the kingdom. The citizens began to become concerned and expressed these concerns loudly and, occasionally, angrily. This went on for several months, until one day, the Court Magician seemingly disappeared with no one else being appointed to the role.
Many years later, the people of Leahdour kingdom were becoming increasingly agigated. The gap between the rich and the poor was widening and conditions for the common person were growing worse. The current king, Alwyn, was inexperienced having become king at a young age, after losing his father to illness and his mother to a magic accident. He relied increasingly on advice from the nobles that made up the court; instead of appointing them himself, he still had the court his father and mother had in their service. A year or so into his rule, citizens from the edges of the kingdom came to the king to plead for help; a large dragon, the likes of which were not native to Thornspane, had been eating their livestock and generally annoying everyone.
Seeing an opportunity to raise his approval among the citizens, the court did their best to track down the adventurers who killed the beast that plagued the kingdom years ago, or if not possible, their nearest relation. They made a big show of sending them off to defeat this terrifying dragon that they built up into a terrible menace...only for almost all of them to end up dying. As one of the adventurers was Lady Seline, an incredibly popular and influential religious figure, there was an uproar in the kingdom. The people had had enough of what many percieved as an incompetant king. The most extreme accusations called it an indirect assassination and there were threats of violence towards the king and the nobles of his court. Several days later, it came out that the king had been assassinated himself. After his death, his sister Princess Olivine, would be crowned queen and dismissed her brother's court. In reality, she had faked Alwyn's death so he could run away, using a magic item to disguise her brother’s appearance, threatening his court with punishment should they divulge this information.

Re: Sigyl Frey | Original Character | 2/2

    [personal profile] countryspellcasting 2020-03-05 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
    Backstory:
Born in the countryside, a few hours outside the small town of Silverdyne, Sigyl lived with his mother, Selia, and his grandparents, Elda and Addleby, on a farm. He never met his father who was, in his mother's words, "some slimy conman asshole" who ended up swindling more than a few Silverdyne residents and then bolted as soon as mercenaries working on behalf of another town's residents showed up looking for him. Sigyl did, however, enjoy semi-frequent visits from his Uncle Brand, Auntie Hilda and cousin Annifred who lived in town. He never went to a formal school, but was taught by his grandparents, with Elda, a witch, teaching him about magic and Addleby teaching him how to read and write, though Sigyl often took his lessons less than seriously. Otherwise, he would spend his days doing chores on the farm or running around the surrounding fields, playing with other children from Silverdyne.

At the age of 6, while playing outside, Sigyl and a few other children were set upon by a relatively small wyvern that ended up snatching Sigyl up. They managed to get help and Selia gave chase on a flying broomstick and used her skills with magic to wrench her son from its grasp and drive the beast off. While he recovered fairly quickly, this event left him with a lifelong wariness towards wyverns, causing him to grow a little nervous at the mere suggestion that they may be nearby. In addition he began to take his grandmother's teachings in magic more seriously to avoid being unable to defend himself should such an event occur again.
Over the next several years, Sigyl began to grow as a magician and found that he actually really enjoyed improving his ability to cast spells. He learned mostly offensive spells and took up the job of using them to drive predators away from the farm animals and protect himself from weak monsters when he was out and about. His mother also began teaching him how to use a flying broomstick, though he found it difficult to get very high off the ground due to his previous wyvern-related flying experience, and mostly used it to ferry items back and forth between the farm and nearby villages.

When Sigyl was 10, Alwyn Albrend, the young king of the Leahdour Kingdom sent a messenger to the farm, asking that Elda assist in defeating a dragon that was supposedly terrorizing an area of the kingdom, despite the fact that the Frey family lived outside the kingdom's borders. Elda was against it as it wasn't any of their business and she was generally wary of the Leahdour royals as a result of her experience working in the castle decades ago. However, Selia insisted. If it was hurting people, she couldn't stand by and let it happen if she was being asked to help, even if she wasn't sure why her mother was being asked specifically, having always been under the impression that her mother had worked as a maid and magic tutor.

Selia would leave a few days later, along with Sigyl's Uncle Brand who decided he would help out as well, as he was gifted at creating and enchanting armor and weapons. Sigyl did extra farmwork to help out in his mother's absence and redoubled his efforts to improve his skills with magic, occasionally making extra trips to town to bring materials to his Uncle's smithy where his cousin was filling in and creating weapons in her father's stead. A few months later, Brand returned, missing an arm.

Sigyl's mother didn't return at all.

Unfortunately, it would turn out the dragon was much more powerful than King Alwyn realized. Of the five adventurers that went to slay the dragon, only Brand survived. Selia had channeled all the energy she had into attacks to hold the dragon back in an attempt to save the others and was ultimately killed. Young Sigyl, in his grief, vowed to slay the dragon...until his grandmother put some sense in his head.

"Your mama couldn't kill that thing, you think you're gonna? Besides...dragon's just doin' what it's gonna do. You'd fight back if someone was tryin' to kill you, wouldn't you?"

For the first time, Sigyl knew what feeling powerless was like. He also realized that strength wasn't absolute; even strong people could be weaker than someone or something else.

Several weeks later in the wee hours of the night, Sigyl awoke hearing a conversation between his grandmother and another unfamiliar voice. He couldn't make out exactly what was being said, but his grandmother sounded angry. Before too long he heard the other person depart, the sound of a horse's hooves fading into the distance. It would only be in the following days that Sigyl and his grandmother would learn that King Alwyn had been assassinated in the dead of night.

Sigyl would never see anyone one from the court ever come to express condolences or to offer an apology for what the king had done. He began to understand why his grandmother had expressed disdain for government and the rich. While the queen declared a day of mourning for Seline, the other adventurers were seemingly forgotten, with neither the Queen nor any other government spokesperson even bothered to refer to anyone else besides Seline by name in official statements.

"They'll make a big show for someone with a big name, but if you ain't no one, they'll step right over ya. N' sometimes, right on ya, too."

Still, in the years that followed, Sigyl would lead a relatively quiet life on his grandparents' farm; making deliveries, running errands for them and caring for the animals. However, he would develop something of a fear of dragons after his mother's death. He would occasionally experience nightmares about the incident and about dragons in general. He eventually decided he was going to seek out the dragon that killed Selia; not to kill it, but just to see exactly what kind of creature it was in an attempt to gain some kind of closure and to try and overcome this fear.

About a month into his travels, he would reunite with his childhood friend Galinda, who had left Silverdyne at 7 years earlier to study in the city of Pearlbarrow. Now using magic through music, she would decide to help him knowing how deeply it affected him. They would later be joined by a hunter of the name of Arthur Wyndelwax. After staying one night in his forest cabin, he unexpectedly insisted on assisting them.

    Personality:

Sigyl is pretty easy going, for the most part. Having grown up under his grandmother's relatively strict guidance, he's hard-working and honest. He's open about the way about the way he feels and isn't shy about expressing his thoughts. Following his grandmother's example, he sees no good in keeping his opinions to himself when something important is on the line, even if his opinion is unpopular.

Sigyl is confident in his own abilities and has some measure of pride, but he's not arrogant. He understands himself to be competant and knows he can handle himself but he also understands that strength isn't absolute. No matter how strong one gets, someone or something is always stronger and he knows that compentant as he is, he may not be able to do things alone. However, it's this view that gives him the courage to push a little further against a strong opponent than some others may not following the idea that even the strongest opponent isn't unbeatable. Unless an opponent is overwhelmingly powerful, Sigyl will at least try and isn't afraid to get a little roughed up if he needs to.

He's friendly enough and gets along with the average person, but he usually doesn't immediately trust people who are wealthy or are otherwise in positions of great authority. After the death of his mother, he came to believe that those with wealth or power will step on those with less to obtain more for themselves; he's more likely to trust an authority figure if he feels they're similar to himself, i. e. someone who works hard, an everyman kind of person. This is also why he's willing to stand up for the little guy; every day people ought to stick together against those that would step on them for their own benefit.

    Abilities:

    Physical Strength

Having grown up on farm, Sigyl spent a good part of his life doing a lot of physical labor and is probably a little stronger than the average person; he won't be single handedly punching out monsters, but he can hold his own in a brawl.

    Magic

(cw: mentions of accidental death and self-harm)

Sigyl has magical abilities. Magic in Sigyl's world consists of channeling the ever-present energies of the world through one's body and expelling it back into the world in a different form, though it puts some strain on the body. It's something that pretty much anyone can learn, but it's easier when one has magical lineage, i.e parents/grandparents/other blood ancestors that have learned and can perform magic already.

The more energy one channels into a spell, the stronger it is at the cost of longer casting time and greater strain on the body; it's not unheard of for magic users to accidentally physically harm themselves or die from trying to cast too powerful a spell to the point where they overwhelm themselves or cannot expel the energy fast enough. For example, someone that tries to cast too many fireball spells in a short period may start experiencing heat exhaustion. Pushing the example further someone who tries to pump more energy into a fire spell than they can handle may end up immolating themselves.

There are typically two ways to gain the ability to handle magic: study endlessly and learn how to properly regulate the flow of energy and/or become physically strong enough to handle it. Sigyl primarily used the latter method, though he's still working on the former. Multiple wizards can cast a powerful spell together to alleviate the strain, but they have to maintain some form of physical contact and also they all have to generally know what they're doing.

There are of course, other forms of magic but Sigyl primarily knows what is called "burst" magic wherein the energy expelled from the body takes the form of bursts of energy, ex: fireballs, blasts of cold wind, blasts of lightning, etc. He still can't cast spells that are too powerful without hurting himself, though. For example, He can blast a hole in a wall large enough to walk through, but he's not going to be knocking down a building with a single blow.

Alignment: Thras. Sigyl's journey starts with the intent of facing a fear that's sat within him for many years, but the bravery to face this fear is what pushes him to continue.
